Okay so... I'm really not used to sharing writing with other people than my friend circle. Any advice for finding a good person or group to give critique? I write both fanfic and original fic, though I imagine I'd have to go to separate places/people for each of those, haha.

(Not that I don't trust the judgement of my friends, but it does help to get some outside opinions, too.)

Try writer sites/communities.
Personally I like Writing year and Scribophile

http://wriye.proboards.com/
http://www.scribophile.com/

Wriye is a pretty relaxed community and great for discussion. It's for both fanfiction and original fiction.

Scribophile is for original fiction and more strict, but great if you want serious critique and discussion. Your also encouraged to critique others (for which they have helpful templates)

Make up question

(Anonymous) 2017-04-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone on here really into make up?

I got a job at a nice clothes store where there is definitely a Look the employees have, and so I have been trying to buy make up to achieve the "fresh faced natural" look (which is not my normal look if I wear make up but I'm willing to conform) but... I can't find a blush I like. I don't think pink or peach looks good on me, and that seems to be most blushes I can find. I have medium toned skin (I'm latina), but I don't know my undertone really. My mom has said I have olive skin but idk how that translates into undertone. The internet tells me undertone is important though.

Does anyone have recommendations or tips on how to pick out ~natural~ looking make up?

Not like hugely, but I generally use primer, then use a liquid base or an all-in-one thing that matches my skintone (which would be lighter than yours). if oo shiny I use a powder to make it more matter (but don't exaggerate). If neither peach nor pink blush do it for you, you could use a deep red (though very moderately). Also I prefer blush sticks to actual powder, if looks more natural.

I looked for a red today (like, a subdued cool red) at my local sephora, but there literally wasn't one there :c I guess that isn't a popular color? I can't be the only one out there who doesn't like pinks or orangey shades on them but :/

Maybe blush is something I should give up on. Is it a must? The only way I ever did it in the past was to use some of whatever lipstick I'm wearing (so, red) and blend it in, but that won't work for this cause I'm either gonna go with no lipstick or a nude shade.

I personally really like the red shades (I actually go towards burgundy), but yeah, these things tend to be subject to fashion. Honestly, just try looking again after summer? Also, you CAN mix and match brands.

This seems to be a red tone: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Avon-Natural-Radiance-Blush-Stick-in-Wine-Souffle-Frost-0-25-oz-NOS-/222334411168

It's not a must, no. It depends entirely on how you want to look. If your make-up is very neutral/non-blended, it generally looks more androgynous, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as that look has been in fashion and is liked by many. It also tends to look more natural, especially if you're going with a nude lipstick (I love those, personally). Blush is generally used to either accentuate cheekbones or to give a "healthy" look. Though if you are latina, and have the "olive" undertone, you probably have less pink/red undertones in your skin anyway.

Can you see any veins in your skin? If your veins appear greenish you have warm undertones so colors with yellow tones will look best on you. If your veins appear blueish you have cool undertones and blue-based shades will look best. If your veins appear blue-green or turquoise, you have a neutral skin tone. You can always pop into Sephora or Ulta Beauty and ask for opinions and suggestions there too!

They look greenish under most lights but green-blue under some? I think I lean towards warm, but a lot of warm foundations look too yellow/orange on me, and neutrals look too cool or ashy? Idk make up is hard.

Makeup is pretty much my main obsession!

I work in a conservative office setting so I have to do the fresh faced natural look, too.

If you don't have a lot to cover, I would try a BB or CC cream instead of a foundation. If you have oily skin, you can use a powder over it (I personally have more combination skin and don't feel right without powder, but a lot of people feel like they don't need it unless they're really oily, you can try with and without and see what you think).

As for blush, I would say just try out some different colors until you find one you like. I don't agree with a lot of the makeup "rules" that says you're supposed to only wear certain colors based on your skintone/hair/eye color. If you like how something looks on you, I say go for it.

Other than those things, I would make sure your eyebrows are groomed (you can use a pencil or gel if you need to fill them in a bit), use a bit of mascara, then a lip product of some sort. You can do anything from a lipstick in a shade close to your natural lipcolor, to a slightly glossy tinted lipbalm, to just a clear lipbalm...whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Here are a couple sites to check out for some more detailed information:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/
https://www.specktra.net/

You can post the same thing you did here, and will get a lot more responses since they're specifically geared toward that subject.

There's also a ton of makeup stuff on YouTube. Just search "natural makeup look" or "everyday makeup look" or something along those lines, and you should find a bunch of tutorials that will show you step by step what to do.

Look for someone named emilynoel83. She's really good at explaining things and uses a lot of more affordable products.

Sorry this isn't more helpful, I've gotta leave in a couple minutes, but I'll check back later if you have more questions!

One trick I was taught is that you can use lip gloss as blush. If the color looks good on your lips, it might mean that it'll look fine on your cheeks, too.

Re: Make up question

Well, I went to Sephora and they did the SkinID thing on me. I too am a Latina with olive skin, so I should know about undertones, but I feel like the colors change each day.

I don't use make up , but when I do, use a primer first (smashbox)I use a lightweight liquid foundation (find one that works with your skin TYPE ie oily, dry, combo), with sheer coverage (for reference, I use Laura Mercier in Bisque - lighter than I thought I was but hey). I use ... some concealer for the eyes, and as far as blush goes, the tone I liked but was too cheap to buy at a time is no longer available. So I use a combo of pink/coral hues lightly. And I finish up with some powder (ambient powder? I usually only use makeup for photographs/that kind of thing so...)

If there's not a Sephora around, the local pharmacy may have comparable options.

One piece of advice I've heard is to get your make-up done at the cosmetics counter in the mall? Or I think Ulta has the same sort of thing.

It might be free, or it might be free-with-purchase. But if you like the blush color they use, hey, you were looking to buy anyway!

Even if you choose not to go that route, they might have a blush you like.

Food/Diet Question (possible ED trigger warning?)

(Anonymous) 2017-04-05 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I am having a problem I have never had in my life: I am having trouble eating enough each day.

I am currently on a weight-loss/healthy eating plan and I've been doing really well and thought I had a pretty good routine down. I track everything each day to make sure I'm staying in my healthy range and not over-eating. But for the past few days I think I'm doing fine, then I enter all my food for the day and find that I'm way under my "healthy range". I feel like I've eaten enough - both mentally and in the sense that I'm not hungry. I'm not skipping meals, I'm just apparently not eating enough at those meals.

Idk. I've had problems with food forever. I've gone through stages (years ago now) where I was attempting to restrict (to an unhealthy obsessive degree), but even then it was really hard work and I was hungry all the time. Now it's just...I feel like I've eaten enough, am not hungry, and have no interest in eating anything else. *shrug*

Should I be worried? It's not like I'm only eating one meal of 200 calories or something. And I guess this might just pass, it's only been a handful of days so far. It's just weird.

If you're concerned, or it goes on for too much longer, I would go to a doctor. It could be normal, but lack of appetite can be a symptom of illness.

Yeah, like I said it's only been a handful of days so I might be overreacting. I guess I'll just keep tabs on it.

Is it that you aren't getting enough calories or enough of certain nutrients or...? Does it explain what you're missing out on that's keeping you from hitting your "healthy range?"

Re: Food/Diet Question (possible ED trigger warning?)

Calories, mostly.

Example of today's food:
Breakfast: 2 pieces toast with peanut butter, and a coffee (black).
Lunch: Salad of spinach and blueberries and crumbled feta, with hummus and veggies on the side.
Dinner: Rice, roasted veggies, and a vegetarian burger.
Snack: Sliced apple with peanut butter and light caramel dip

I'm struggling to eat dinner and have no interest in my snack, which is honestly usually my motivational 'reward' for making it through the day being healthy. It's what I look forward to most nights that it's on my planned menu.

Da

That sounds pretty healthy to me, tbh, and you can always wait to eat dinner until you are hungry for it.

Well, I'm going to bed soon so it's now or never! lol But yeah, I thought it seemed okay?

I think I'm making too big a deal out of it due to my choppy past with food and hunger.

Seconding the "that sounds fine" sentiment. You're getting plenty of protein as well as fruits and veggies.

I'd say if it goes on more than a week or two, talk to a doctor. I go through phases of this all the time where I just can't stomach much food and it'll go away in a day or two. The doctor usually just chalks mine up to stress/hormones and as long as I don't lose more weight, I'm good.

The first time I brought it up at the doctor's they were super concerned (mostly because I lost weight when I hadn't in years) and when they asked about my life, they just kept an eye on it for the next few months (I was moving and changing jobs all in the span of a few weeks). Hope you get your appetite back! It's so frustrating when you know you SHOULD eat but you just don't want to.

Have you been really sedentary lately? Your body may be telling you that you don't need as much energy. The 2000 calories is an average. If you're very active or have a larger frame, you need more to maintain your weight. If you're not that active and have a smaller body frame, you don't need as much. 1200 is a pretty restricted diet for most, generally for people who need to lose a lot of weight under a doctor's care and not something that would be a good idea to go under. So if you are under that, talk to somebody, there may be an underlying issue. If you're over 1600, I think that's probably fine. In between, I'd let it go for a few more days and then maybe talk to a nutritionist or someone and tell them about your eating habits and lifestyle and see if they have any concerns.

Seconding this. I'm barely 5'0" and when I worked a desk job, I didn't need to eat very much at all to be healthy. Now that I've got a more active job, I need to eat more because I'm burning a lot more energy. Your body generally has a pretty good sense of what it needs calorie-wise.
