I know my first mistake was going to tumblr for this but I went to the tag looking for discussion about the show because I've got nobody else to talk to about it and like. OH. MY. GOD.

The discussion doesn't really turn to complete shit unless people make representation the end all and be all. One story can never have all representation covered, which means those morons will call it the worst thing in the world, never mind real life issues that have nothing to do with the show.

I don't ship Sweeney/Shadow, but come on, OP. They beat the shit out of each other, they look close enough in age to make it plausible, of course fandom wants them to fuck. Make love not war is a premise so many m/m ships are based on, it would be weird if no one shipped them.

This. I mean, there are some adaptions where I'm fine with changes (Just watched the Count of Monte Cristo adaption again and I still love that movie and don't mind or even approve of changes). And then there are some that annoy me (Wizard of Oz, Prisoner of Azkaban, Hobbit movies). And there is a whole range in between.

When something is being adapted, every fan of the original is going to have something to say. It is okay to disagree on what changes are okay and what are not. That's the fun of discussion. It isn't personal. People just like and dislike different things.

I liked the pseudo stop motion cgi. It reminds me of a series of stop motion cartoons I was shown in school. It was a series on folklore and mythology, with various tales from pretty much every nation, all done in wooden stop motion puppets. It was really quite enjoyable. That is what that segment reminded me of.

I liked it, too. At first I thought, "Huh. Weird." because it felt like an odd throwback... but now I think it was an interesting break from the rest of the show stylistically, that also made sense narratively.

I can understand why Media and Technical Boy would show up as white, like it or not the default setting of the Media is white and Technical Boy is supposed to be the incarnation of every racist little shit who screams obscenities on 4chan and Reddit. Why would anyone want Technical Boy to be Ethnic, talk about negative representation. Unless of course it is the technical boys who are demanding it in order to try and inflict negative representation, which would be their MO.

Mister World ought to be Asian though, Subcontinental Asian, maybe, though. Or Han Chinese. If he is going to be Globalization then he ought to be one of the newly developed economies which have been de-enriching the western workforce.

All either bitching about how appreciating Laura's character is racist or fucking making leprechauns gay when you've got actual gay characters in the damn show (ironic that no one wants to make graphics of them given the racism 'discourse', or of Shadow.) One of the worst messes I've ever seen in a show not aimed at teenagers.

Slightly off-topic but honestly I'm really disappointed in this show. It started out promising enough but now I find myself caring less and less with each episode. Like I hate to be That Guy but they should've just stuck to the book.

Oh good lord...

Honestly Laura is one of my favorite parts. I love how she's nihilist to the point of having sociopathic tendencies. I didn't care for her in the book, but she's honestly so interesting in the show. And I for one am glad to see a female character that isn't all about nurturing and family and bullshit like that. I relate, even if I'm not as much of a prick as she is.

Also, what? Media doesn't even have a race.

I mean, if I'm gonna complain about anything, it's how explosively, gratuitously gory the show is. It's just so not Gaiman or how I envisioned the story while reading the book.

People are dumb as shit, this is why we can't have nice things.
