Do straight people wear rainbow stuff/I have no gaydar, help

(Anonymous) 2017-06-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
If someone is wearing a shirt that says "love wins" with a rainbow flag, is it fairly likely they're gay, or would straight people wear something like that to show they support the LGBT+ community? I have horrible gaydar and don't want to come out and ask but I also don't want to make a fool out of myself by asking out someone I have no chance with. I mean, at least I would guess they're probably not homophobic if they're wearing something like that and wouldn't get pissed off, but still.

Thoughts?

I have straight friends who do wear them in solidarity. But my friend group, on account of going to a liberal law school, is fairly liberal/progressive. I don't know if that holds true outside of the people I know.

I don't think it's out of the question for a straight person to wear that, especially if they're young. If you're worried, why not talk to the person before you ask them out? That seems like the natural thing to do anyway.

I know straight people who do stuff like that so I wouldn't assume anything.

2/3 chance

I'm straight, but I have a "Love Wins" shirt that I wear in support of my gay friends. I wouldn't get pissed off if a girl hit on me. I'd probably just get flustered, apologize, and say I'm straight.

Same.

Yeah, straight people wear them to show support. But I mean, going in to anyone you don't know if you have a chance at all. So I say go for it anyway. Even if they were wearing a big ol' "I'M GAY AF" sign you still might have no chance with them. At least you know they'll be chill with it, not some defensive homophobic jerkwad!

they're probably not gay, since the new trend is straight people appropriating gay symbols and fashions to make it impossible for us to identify each other.

let me guess, you think it's okay for white people to have dreads because it's "just a hairstyle"

nayrt
It totally is.

Re: Do straight people wear rainbow stuff/I have no gaydar, help

(Anonymous) 2017-06-13 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes it is. But also because dreads have roots in like... almost every culture, including Germanic and Viking, which were pretty damn white. So yeah, I have no problem with white people wearing dreads even if personally I don't like the hairstyle.

You can believe that dreads are appropriation without believing that this is appropriation

It's not like if the person wearing the shirt's gay they'll automatically go on a date with OP, though, so it can't hurt to ask.

still fucking annoying when all the str8 chicks come into the gay bar with their fucking rainbow tshirts and throw a tantrum when a lesbian DARES to hit on them

In my actual lived experience: girls wear rainbow shit and shirts proclaiming their gayness, and then they flip out screaming in anger at girls flirting with them like they're gay or something.

Straights are the worst, lmao.

You sound like a straight pretending to be a gay just to start wank.

Gay and married, thanks.

Straights are the worst.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-13 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
No, this is a typical lesbian who hates the fact that some girls are straight and don't want to fuck them, so she makes things like this up. I said it here before: lesbians are more like straight men than they'll ever know.

She's probably biphobic too.

this has also been my experience.
