That is a super fucked up situation all around.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-23 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
See, this kind of behavior (that of the bnf) is why people complain about tumblrs bullying bullshit and their "pedo hunting" that hurts actual CSA survivors.

I'm so sick of people whining when people bring up these issues. As long as this is still a problem on tumblr people are going to talk about it .

(Anonymous) 2017-06-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. It seems to me to be a combination of the "there's only one right way to present ____" thinking, which is itself an outgrowth of binary absolutism.

It's as if shades of gray and variant experiences are anathema to a large segment of the population now.

What the hell. The things people do... It's horrible that you can't speak up for what's right. Stay safe OP, and I hope they leave that author alone soon.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand not wanting to get involved, but why not send a PM to the writer with some words of encouragement. It might make a world of difference to her.

Seconded. Times like this I try to focus on supporting people who are being targeted above all else. If you're worried about doing it publicly, there's nothing wrong with doing it privately.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-23 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds like a very good idea. I agree with the OP of the secret that taking a public stand wouldn't help but a PM would be good.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

Or, if you did want to leave a comment publicly, you could always do so anonymously.

Course, I don't know if there'd be a way for these doxxer types to find somebody even if they stay anonymous. I hope not, but who knows with some people nowadays.

I have nothing to say about this except, WOW, it looks like I bailed the fuck out of Tumblr at exactly the right time.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I gotta wonder how the people like that BNF are going to look back on this. How are they going to feel looking back on the time in their life when they were telling people to straight up kill themselves?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
They won't every think they did a single thing wrong.

I'm just glad that if someone were to dig through my internet hey-day, they'd find bad fan art and embarrassing roleplay. Not a single death threat, no suicide baiting, no doxxing. I don't have any skeletons in my web closet and I don't envy all the growing up these people are in for. I certainly hope they'd feel damn shitty for being such amoral monsters, but who knows.

I think people who do stuff like this have a personality disorder and probably don't care that they're hurting people.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Man I really wanna know what fandom this is. Sounds like a shitshow.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Canonical sex excludes both Voltron and Steven Universe, and is only present in the implied-by-marriage-and-children sense in Harry Potter.

While Sam and Dean have both had canonical sex aplenty (and most of Dean's partners have actually survived the experience) they're pretty much the opposite of "met as adults." Though maybe it's Destiel instead of Wincest, and Cas is "child coded" despite being a bazillion year old wavelength of celestial intent.

By process of elimination that leaves the Sherlock fandom; didn't Sherlock boink that bridesmaid?

Or maybe it's some teensy little fandom that nobody's ever heard of.

Ah yes, I love armchair moral warriors who get all their info from Tumblr echo chambers which just reinforce this self-righteous bullying behavior.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Why can't people just read the fic/writers they like and ignore the ones they don't? Is it that hard?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently so. Apparently they're strapped to their chairs 'Clockwork Orange' style and can't possibly EVER learn how to just use the damn back button or scroll past a story.

Really sorry that author's going through this shit. And I will never, ever understand how anyone thinks telling people to kill themselves is even remotely okay.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 02:20 am (UTC)(link)

Seriously. If you don't dig it, back button. No need to leave a comment. Why be so extra? What Is with people these days?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
No, the new trend is reading a fic that someone knows they won't like and then sending hate messages to the author.

Now I want a link to the fic so I can go leave a big, happy, complimentary comment, congratulating the author on writing a situation like that so well and how awesome it is.

Fuck haters. They can come fight me.

How is a fic that features a character having an abortion anti-abortion propoganda? Cause she didn't feel 100% positive about it? How young and naive are these people that they think that no one who ever has an abortion has mixed feelings about it? The reason its called "pro-choice" to begin with is because it is a very personal and often not easy choice people make.

Sounds like these people have very little life experience.

I mean on one hand if I read that I'd sign and roll my eyes because the vast majority of people I personally know who've gotten an abortion at some time felt relief about it if it was what they wanted. And only felt torn up and regretful if it was medically necessary but not what they wanted. But pop culture loves to push this narrative of a woman crying in the waiting room and how it's the hardest thing ever and women are good moral people who feel properly guilty about this terrible thing they had to do for the greater good.

The constant defense of "No one WANTS to get an abortion" is like saying "No one WANTS to take antibiotics!" Like... yeah, I'd totally rather not take antibiotics, but if I go swimming and I get an ear infection even though I'm careful I'm not going to cry in the waiting room picking up my antibiotics to fix that. And when that's brought up constantly in a debate on if keeping women from getting antibiotics will make them think twice before they do something stupid like go swimming then I'm going to roll my eyes and be annoyed at the trope.

But you know what I'd do faced with a fic like that? Click away, maybe block/ao3 savior the author if I'm feeling particularly salty. If someone's response is a witch hunt then they've got serious problems.
