Series disappointments

What were/are some shows (live action or animated) that really started out promising but ended but seriously disappointing?

I actually liked the finale few episodes of House, but the seasons leading up to it were very terrible.

much as I loved House, I could only stand the first three seasons. It deteriorated so badly after that I was just watching to ogle Hugh and make up Hilson fic.

American Gods.
It was just getting started and now it is over already. It has too short a season, and wasted two episodes on side characters too.

NuBSG
It just vanished up its own backside.

Quite recently in this anime seasons:
Seikaisuru Kado. Started out as a solid Sci-Fi series with some philosophical themes and interesting character. Turned into the same old tsundere romance with zero chemistry and one-dimensional villains drivel.
(And that tsundere waifu's fanboys are getting their panties in a bunch if you mention this haha.)

Suisei no Gargantia.
It started off so cool! Angst! Fish-out-of-water! Culture shock! I was so genuinely interested, and then it derailed into bullshit, fanservice, and boring posthumanism.

Attack on Titan. I'm still curious about the mysteries of the world it's set in and what the hell is going on in the damn vague prologue, but what a clusterfuck the plot is.

Merlin. It's like every season they set out to warp things even further.

I'm gonna go the obvious and say Once Upon A Time. Season 1 was genuinely good, Season 2 was hit and miss but Cora was magnificent, and then it all went downhill from there.

Kiznaiver. It started off great by having a dynamic cast full of interesting characters, until the last few episodes where they decided to focus on the bland protagonist and female tsundere.

Bleach started out pretty great and it went downhill somewhere during the Hueco Mundo arc. We just kept getting more and more characters and the ones I liked ended up getting pushed to the sidelines.

Another for Attack on Titan. I don't even know what's going on anymore but I dropped it after they got rid of youknowwho. That was enough closure for me.

Samurai Jack. Season 5 started out really good but the pacing got progressively worse and the final episode fell flat for me.

Daredevil tbh, I really liked season 1 but season 2 just dragged for me. The only characters I liked were Frank and Elektra otherwise I was bored as shit and I'm not going to bother with season 3.

Oh and while I enjoyed Luke Cage overall I thought the season finale was very weak and I didn't like Diamondback one bit, Cottonmouth was so much better and I would have preferred him being the bad guy all the way through.

Orange is the New Black. I loved the first two seasons, but I felt like I was punishing myself watching the fifth season.

The Lost Village. Had an interesting premise and I LOVED the whole trauma thing, but it just...fell apart and it ended so completely suddenly.

I was hoping for a bit more of horror feel to it, like Another, but it just...didn't deliver.

I thought vampire knight was going to be good. I wasted hours of my life. I feel like everyone was having different conversations when speaking. I was confused and betrayed. So much disappointment.

Hemlock Grove. Promising idea and first season, second season went a little bit off track but still decent, first episode of third season looked promising... and then it all goes to hell in a handbasket.

Twin Peaks

(Anonymous) 2017-06-24 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
The first season was so wonderfully weird and creepy and atmospheric and interesting and the second season mostly ended up with me looking at the TV with a confused expression.

X-Files - I mostly pretend it ended with season 7.

NewsRadio - though that wasn't the cast or writers' fault, the loss of Phil Hartman wasn't something they were able to recover from

Designing Women - I like Jan Hooks and Julia Duffy, but I didn't care for either of their characters

How I Met Your Mother - just that whole last season felt incredibly pointless thanks to the finale (actually, like, most of the series felt pointless thanks to the finale)

BBC Sherlock. I loved the first episode. It seemed to have such a fresh, distinctive take on the characters, the cinematography/look of the show was really cool, and the relationship between John and Sherlock seemed to have such potential (not to be canonically slashy, just to be a really awesome and interesting).

Then the first two seasons were ok. They didn't live up to the potential the first ep seemed to have, but I remember feeling like if S3 came back strong the show could still be pretty great.

Then S3 happened and I immediately filed for a divorce from canon because there was just not going to be any bouncing back from the garbage that was the third season.

Amazingly, S4 managed to be even worse.
