So does 'forever ago'.

'A bit ago' - not that long ago.
'A while ago' - a long time ago.
'Forever ago' - ridiculously long ago.

Are those proper chef knives, though? If they're just regular butter knives it's irritating, but doesn't really matter.

there are people IRL who clap when trying to make a point, and they do clap forward toward the person

...wtf?! I have literally never seen anyone do this, and I think if anyone did it to me my immediate reaction would be to slap them. That's hella obnoxious and rude and aggressive.

(Also, "heckin" is one of the stupidest fucking words.... just say "fucking", jesus christ, you aren't fooling anyone with the dumbass baby talk.)

I love Costco, but I'd clarify that as "great products for a reasonable price". Their stuff isn't necessarily cheap, but it's usually pretty decent for the quality you get...and of course, if you're unhappy with it, they have a very generous return policy.

I've seen that!

I really don't get the way most SJWs write. I feel like, if I were passionately advocating for a cause, I'd at least bother to act like I've passed the 2nd grade. I'm not even that snobby about spelling and grammar, because no one is perfect - but some things, come on, try a little.

3 levels wrong!

Spoilers:

In Pixels, Earth is attacked by aliens who take the form of 80s video game characters, for reasons that make sense in context, believe it or not. One of the heroes is obsessed with a character named Lady Lisa - a generic female warrior type from the only fictional game used in the movie.

The aliens apparently have a custom of taking or giving soldiers as trophies after battles. One of the ones they send when humans win is Q-Bert, who starts hanging around with the heroes (mainly Sandler and his love-interest's son).

In the final battle, a Pixel Alien based on Lady Lisa appears...the guy with the Lady Lisa obsession convinces her to change sides, but, as she's not a trophy, when the aliens are defeated and leave, she goes with them. Obsessy-guy laments that everybody else has romantic (or at least sexual) fulfillment, when his dream girl just buggered off back to space. (Sandler's character gets the girl, obviously, James's is already married, and Peter Dinklage's does get the Serena Williams/Martha Stewart three-way he wanted.)

So...Q-Bert changes into Lady Lisa and they start making out, and by the epilogue are shown to have married and had babies (li'l baby Q-Berts).

So, we have...1) Literal trophy wife. 2) The destruction of Q-Bert's identity to serve this purpose. 3) Q-Bert apparently entering into a romantic/sexual relationship (as a totally different person) on the spur of the moment with the dude (who hardly interacted with Q-Bert before the final scene) just so he won't be sad. Also, 4) Seriously, dude, she was Q-Bert not 5 seconds ago, don't you want to take a moment to process this before sucking her face? (Sandler's character actually calls that one out in the movie.)

Internet Dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
So I hopped on the waybackmachine to get a hold of some fics that are in a site that no longer exists. Issue? As it's a site with "mature" fics, the page keeps defaulting on the "age verification " page, which means I never get to the fic. Has anyone encountered this issue/solution?

Please & thank you!

Post you internet dilemmas here!

OP did say that they were talking about 'current' companions so I presume they were refer to modern era ones.

I mean, it's not any different than any other kind of slang. It's a different way of expressing yourself. Not all contexts demand formality

Well, we could do that! Here's the batch that were posted five years ago, to the date:

The sound it's the issue, it's the fact that they are using a slab of rock as a cutting board. That's not good for knives.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
They can't be butter knives because they have to cut through bread and pastry and things. They are sharp knives, although not necesarily high quality ones.

I think heckin started as doggo speak? You know, dog memes, pics + captions? It's funny in the meme, not sure about anywhere else...

Most secrets don't seem like they could "ruin" anyone's life, either. I mean, people aren't admitting to crimes here. They could also claim to be trolling if anyone "caught" them. It seems a bit overdramatic.

Now, some of the non-secrets, the troll comment...yeah...maybe. But still, that seems highly, highly unlikely. It's not like trolls are generally caught and shamed, no matter how nasty the are.

Review/Analysis of DS9's "Take Me Out to the Holosuite"

The officers of DS9 take a break from the Dominion War to play some baseball. Though in truth, fighting the Jem'Hadar might be easier than trying to figure out the Infield Fly rule.

Related to this thread, that's a word that annoys the hell out of me.

That's why it would be a rarely-used item! So useful when you need it, though.

Have you not noticed a decrease in quality where you are? They were bought out by Cadbury who were bought out by that crappy US food conglomerate (name escapes me right now). Since then all Cadbury chocolate including G&B has started tasting like shit. More like goddamn hersheys every day bleurgh.

Secrets aren't required be original, just like you're not required to read secrets you don't like. Maybe consider switching to decaf?

Re: What happens when/if you drink?

[personal profile] rosehiptea 2017-08-19 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
One of the only times I got really, seriously drunk my father had to come pick me up because I lost my cab fare in the bar. And while we were walking to his car I saw this furry-sex-themed shop window. I'm not even sure what they were selling but they had someone in a bed and someone approaching the bed wearing a tiger mask. Granted that would be funny to me sober but drunk it just blew my mind and I was standing there yelling "What is that? No, really, what the hell is that?" with my dad trying to get me to stop pointing and yelling and walk. Fortunately there wasn't much in the neighborhood but other bars with equally drunk people coming out of them so nobody cared that I was yelling at two in the morning.

Re: How much time do you spend online?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I usually have my browser open from around 10-11am to whenever I go to bed (anywhere from midnight to 3am) but I'm not perpetually in front of it that whole time. It's so I can respond to work email as soon as I see it, look up reference pictures/patters/tutorials, and listen to music on youtube or shoutcast while I work. The only time I'm actively internetting is from after dinner till bedtime.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I could've written this secret, because I feel the same way. But yeah, I don't think one necessarily needs to watch a show to be bothered by the way certain people/characters are let go from it. Sure, occasionally there may be those shows where the politics of letting actors and characters go is related to some kind of situation specific to the actual show itself, to the point where only those who follow the show would really "get" or "know" what's going on and be able to comment on the situation.

But this doesn't seem like one of those instances, and from what I've read and heard about this situation, it just sounds like a really shitty and dumb way to treat Hayes and handle the situation. There's so many other ways they can write off a character in a show like this-harken back to "Newhart" or the Bobby Ewing moment from "Dallas" or something if need be. They're clearly already trying to echo "King of Queens" by bringing Remini back, after all, might as well continue to acknowledge other sitcoms along the way while they're at it. It'd make more sense and fit the tone of this kind of show a lot better.

I also think CBS' negative reputation when it comes to how they treat their actresses is a factor in people's reactions as well. It certainly fits their pattern.
