No clue. Will find out when I get there!

Re: Music Artists Found on Youtube

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly, but I've used YouTube to figure out who did a song I've heard elsewhere. I discovered Calexico because one of their songs was used in a promo on Turner Classic Movies and I went and found the song on YouTube.

Kevin James has a TV series called Kevin Can Wait, where his wife is played by Erinn Hayes. But for season 2 they're going to kill her character off so she can be replaced by Leah Remini who played his wife on King of Queens.

Re: Looking for a book

At first I thought it might be "Woman with a Secret" by Sophie Hannah, because it is about a woman in an online relationship and it has a female police officer in it. But the plot is very different so I think it's definitely not that.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread though because that sounds like a good book.

Certain phrases like, "Hang up the phone" or "Roll down the window". I think they will understand what the words mean but have no idea why they are used.

Re: What company will you always be loyal to?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
A couple of years ago I'd have said Amazon, but they've been shooting themselves in the foot so badly, it's like they want to piss off their most loyal customers and vendors.

I like Dreamspinner Press (as a place to find gay romance) but I'm pretty selective about what I read, and I wouldn't say I'm loyal, just somewhat supportive.

I have my favorite brands of organic coffee and raw cocoa powder, both of which I really really love, but if they started dicking me over on pricing or quality, and I could find something better, I wouldn't stick with them. (Healthworks Cacao Powder-raw and organic, and Cafe Don Pablo Subtle Earth Organic coffee)

I like McDonalds fries but that's a taste preference, and I'd hardly call myself loyal to the chain.

So I'm not sure there's anyone, really.

Ooh, then most of the artists I now love were found through YouTube! Either a friend who liked the band would send me a video or I would find them on my own after listening to a song of theirs on the radio, though it was always a little frustrating when I couldn't find them right away. There was a song that came on the radio that I really liked and I'd forget to look up the playlist on the station's website or I always missed the name. I couldn't remember the lyrics, but I'd hum it and my friend eventually found the song for me on YouTube.

I really hate that Kevin James' previous shitty show (along with Jim Belushi's show) is, despite (or because of) the fact that it is aggressively unfunny and bad and everyone hates it, basically a reflexive touchstone for any show or movie about a heavier or less attractive man in a relationship with a less-heavy woman. And now he's going to go back and make the same goddamn shitty show with the actual same actress again? Fucking Kevin James.

Re: Is it just me?

Not just you, I hate the way fandom is using pedophilia to mean 'anything with an age gap' when pedophilia is used to refer to one very specific thing (and tbh if you can't see theres a difference between a 17yo and a 7yo thats weird imo)

Cash

Is it actually the knife making that sound, though, or is it a Foley effect added afterwards because it's what a lot of audiences expect?

The idea of no internet at all, or an internet that was only text-based and you couldn't buy things on it.

The idea of no cell phones, or cell phones that were huge and only for rich people and FBI agents.

Gasoline-only cars (I'm hoping).

How Trump got elected president.

Probably a lot of the cultural trauma caused by things like WWI & WWII, since pretty much everyone who remembers those will be dead (already happening with WWI). They'll read about it in history books, but it's not the same as hearing it from your grandparents, since I'd be the grandparent and I wasn't alive back then.

Pagers.

What happens when/if you drink?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I find it super fascinating how it affects different people. Like you go out with a group of friends and you know that this one will start hogging the jukebox and dancing on tables, that one will get rowdy/annoying, that one will flop after two drinks and need carrying home, etc.

I'm usually in the first category but I also worked as a care worker for years and turn into a meddling mother duck if I see anyone who's not feeling well. It's amazing how quickly you sober up when a total stranger has just puked on you.

Re: What rarely or never used item should everyone own?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
my critter catcher
jar opener
a heater

They're much cheaper and more reliable than having "someone to catch spiders, open jars for you, and keep you warm at night."

I mean, I realize women get into relationships with men for more reasons than this, but these are "reasons" some people share, and, well...the alternatives are a lot cheaper.

One Hour Photo for Robin Williams. I'm sure he'd done serious/dark work before that but it was my first time seeing him in that sort of role and it blew me away.

I'm a real lightweight, so I start feeling sick after one drink. I also tend to get sleepy. I'm definitely no fun at parties.

It's been a busy week and I might have to work tomorrow too but I won't know until tomorrow, so tonight I'm trying to just relax as much as possible.

I'm thinking I want to bake something but I need to figure out what ingredients I already have and what I can make with them so I don't have to make a grocery trip.

And I think I'm getting ready to get off the computer and go either tackle my DVR (it's at 99% full right now) or start a book (I got a bunch of new ones recently).

Re: Steve Bannon was fired!

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm imaging Bannon's like those truck stop sandwich worms in Futurama that reproduces in a cloud of spores. Ew.

Modern ways of speaking online that annoy you

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Some of mine:

- Calling people "beans." Where did that even start? And why?
- That thing where people insert a "clapping" emoji between every word, when they're trying to make a point about something. Is it supposed to read like you're clapping your hands in front of someone's face, the whole time you're talking?

Bean soup. And a vegetarian tagine. I like to make large amounts and freeze them in individual portions.
