129. I kinda liked the music too.

160. Koi Kaze secret! That series breaks my heart every time.

Same. It creeps the fuck out of me how parts of their relationship resonate so much with my memories.
cleverthylacine: a cute little thylacine (and neither do I)

[personal profile] cleverthylacine 2008-06-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
101. I think he's one of the best done religious characters out there, myself, although I can't say he made me respect anything more than I already did. (I hope it's not just his religion you respect.)

108. I think the show really loses a lot without him. He's perverse, kinky, slightly spoilt, and has this off-and-on relationship with Catholicism and BDSM that has me riveted. I know that people think his fans are really shallow because he's really conventionally attractive, even when his hair gets too long and he doesn't shave, but I think there are a lot more reasons to love him than his pretty face and I hate it like fire when he isn't around. Between his backstory and the way he lets House treat him, Foreman is a giant ball of skanky racial issues, and Cameron is gooey and annoying (he deserves better). The new ducks pwn Cameron and Foreman in every way. But Chase? It's not House if my baby ain't there.

123. It's all guilt. Nobody wants to admit how much we really want the boys to be doing each other because we're afraid if we do, F_W will point at us and say we're all vagina-hating misogynists, whether there's anyone else we feel that way or not. I don't think most of the people who make such a hue and cry of support for her ever cared about anything she did before she dated him or even knew who she was. They're his fans, eager to prove they don't Love Him Too Much by saying they love her as some kind of gesture of female solidarity. Whatever. It's over between them; hopefully people will stop shoving her into our faces now.

125. You can be a fan of something without being a fan of the author. But I wouldn't try it in that fandom. Except I did, and have the scars to prove it.

126. Hee!

130. That is very true. I had one put in not!secret. I suppose I should have put "secret because..." but everyone hates that. (Mine was the Profit secret about how much I hate it when people write Jim/Gail non-con. It's secret because I really truly do believe that people should write whatever the fuck they feel like writing and there aren't enough people in the fandom anyway. Which is absolute truth. But man, I hate reading that shit, because he was raped by his stepmother when he was a kid and she's still doing it; I can't believe he'd do it to his favoured apprentice, even if that is a pattern that can repeat itself.)

161. That phenomenon is not unique to any fandom. Neither is the equally sad phenomenon of people caring enough to find it offensive.

167. I feel that way about Lightning War :) You should post it somewhere.

NF!2. I can't believe I'm even giving this the time of day, but if you sign your fannish ID to something, you are risking something, your fannish identity, your reputation, what people online think of you. Anons don't risk anything.

TB!2. I agree with you.

TB!3. I hated the dub, but I've loved them since 1993.

TB!2 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-06-10 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for agreeing with me, and I agree with your thoughts on 123, because I guess hating her is a very taboo thing in the fandom.

*rolls eyes*

The sun does not come out of her ass believe it or not, I don't "hate" her in true sense, I just don't zomgiwuvherrr!

125. HP3 Lupin was amazing, but HP7 Lupin sucked. I was convinced he was a Death Eater when he shook Harry. XD He was so OOC. But then he died and ended up not being a death eater. I was so confused.

151. I adore P/E, but I really don't like P/A. I won't bash that pairing, though. I think it's rude, and also because some of my pairings (though, not for PW) would be totally bashed if I were open about them (and if people knew who I was talking about). (;

158

[identity profile] hopelikefever.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, I'm confused. Being positive is a bad thing? WTF, man? And where did wanting to kill yourself come in? And how can they be the same thing if they all made you feel completely different ways?

Re: 158

(Anonymous) 2008-06-10 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OP : My personal feelings on something are very different from underlying stories and content.

Yes, underlying messages of absolutely positivity are bad. That's just not how life works. I would love if you could just take a stupid sentiment (Believe in you because I believe!) and use it to accomplish everything, but that's really just now how life works, and it's terribly naive to believe something like that. Being positive about things is fine and dandy, but there's a difference between being positive and being naive. Sheer determination is never enough, that's just not the way life works. Any anime that tells you such is spewing unrealistic bullshit.

Speaking of how I wanted to kill myself was just to make a point about the range of emotion Eva was able to invoke.

107. This is why I never reveal my geeky fandom self to RL friends.
140. OHMAN, THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS! I LOVED THAT SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID!
161. LOL, do I know you? I agree about mostly going "wtf?" whenever people complain about how wanky Heroes fandom is. It's got some wank, but really, what fandom doesn't? The Paire stuff were silly, but that doesn't really shock me either. Most Claire shippers are kinda insane anyway. IDK, maybe I've gotten used to it, so now I just think it's the normal kind of wank that every fandom has?

LOL, Mandra reference. I definitely feel like I know you.

[identity profile] solace-adrift.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
132: I thought I was the only one who did that. After I watched No country for old men my family couldn't understand me for an hour because my word choice was texan. It also happens all the time with my writing style.

149, 158, 162

[identity profile] venusian-eye.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
149 Oh hey a "My Life In Blue" secret. Fancy that. ... EVERYONE WOULD TAP VINCENT, OKAY? YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

158 Ummm. Wow. I don't want to tl;dr here, but you strike me as the sort of person who's never had something terrible happen to them. Or you lack emotional depth or maturity. How could you possibly equate EVA's existentialism with TTGL's humanism? Those two series, at least, are not the same at all. The philosophies behind them are different, the moods of the pieces are different, and the messages are different. Also the animation style. Now that you're older, maybe you should watch EVA again, because you seem to have missed a lot.

162 If I could cry, I would have *bawled like a child* for Viral. ;__;

Re: 158

(Anonymous) 2008-06-10 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
OP : Yes, so the animation style? So by that you're referring to what I said in my secret about how they just update everything to suit what's popular at the time? Oh okay, glad you agree.

And actually, you just touched on one of the things about Eva I love. I've watched 4 times or so now, and I always take away something different from it based on my age and new experiences. I doubt I'll have a similar experience with GL being as that there is very little to actually take away.

Also, way to assume a lot about someone you know nothing about. I'm sure the psychology class you were required to take in college taught you a lot. Oh wait, you're 18? My bad, High School then. I could very easily make a laundry list of the crap I've been through in the 4 extra years I've been on the planet that you weren't around for, but I don't believe you were inviting me to a pity party, were you?

134. Well, that has a simple explanation. People who are only into yaoi or yuri are very often the same way as the adamant het fans you describe. People who are open-minded tend to be more intelligent, and vice versa.

147. Don't get me wrong: BSG is in some ways a great show, but I agree with the OP that it pales in comparison to Farscape. The writers of the latter were far more talented, even if they had a smaller budget/different creative vision.

[identity profile] phoenix39.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
137 - That is awesome. I love Reaper/SPN fic, especially when Sam and Sam are in the same scene.

161 - As big of a Paire fan I am, I agree with you.

166 - "I'd hit that like Mr. Eko's Jesus Stick." You have no idea how much I lol'd just there.

107. WORD.

128. (Between you and 163, two YGO secrets in one day makes me a happy fangirl.) My hair still is long, but it won't help me cosplay Mai because it's dark brown. T__T

138. !!! UNDER THE UMBRELLA TREE !!! I loved that show so much as a kid that I taught myself how to play the theme song on my keyboard. XD;

163. Aww, why would you want to quit YGO? (Or Atem? :P) It's so much fun. >D

132, 137, 139

[identity profile] virescens.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
132. Same here. I think I pay a ridiculous amount of attention to the way characters talk and move. Their postures and their facial expressions, even the way they walk sometimes. It's kind of subconsious, but when I find myself mimicing stances or expressions I know I've been overdoing it lately. XD Let's not talk about the dialogue that's part of my personal meme set. Sometimes I forget that some of the phrases that I say in everyday conversation actually had fandom origins. /freak

137 + 139. I want a Reaper/Ed Edd n Eddy crossover. My brother and I sit through ever Reaper episode comparing the guys to the Eds. It's so perfect.

Under the Umbrella tree, I remember seeing that back in the good ol' days of the Disney Channel! It made me want to try rutabagas when I was little.(I still haven't)

151.

[identity profile] ga-ryuu.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the RP journal, this is completely off-topic, but I kind of find it hilarious that the picture being used in that secret that has P/A has Phoenix going "Mitsurugiiii~".

And word to the sentiment. I'm not too crazy about P/A myself, but it's not the end of the world if people like it. One of my close friends detests NaruMitsu and likes OdoHodo, and it's not like I hate her for it. We just respectfully don't talk about our pairings unless we have to.

It's just too sad people see the need to bash others for the pairings though. Like, hello-- fiction. It's not real. D:

They have completely different ideas, really. Unless you failed to actually watch any of them. And Evangelion's overall message was, if anything, more positive than Gurren-Lagann's memento-mori.
