1. Purity culture new way to shame women for anything remotely sexual.

2. They're supposed to be grouping lesbian/bi/pan women and gay/bi/pan men without having to type all that out.

Speaking as a woman online who likes watching women fucking - men have a ton of porn produced for them just so they can watch that shit. I'm not saying no one ever shames them in certain circles, but it's also a major fucking industry where you're constantly being offered up new material.

I guess what I mean is that if women are "gatekeeping" woman-on-woman porn, it's not working worth a damn.

Not in the real world, but to someone like me who is so far into the internet I may as well be an actual digital avatar right now, I can tell you, I can't watch or read porn of any kind without feeling shameful and irrationally panic. They're not stopping us, they're just making us feel really really fucking bad about it.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you should take a little time off the internet if it's making you feel so bad. Go for a walk outside. Talk to some people who aren't digital avatars. Get a non-online hobby or job. Anything.

Yes, the current "Slash and yaoi is gross fucked up women touching their SINBITS while fetishizing a marginalized group." is a new-ish way to shame women for anything remotely sexual. I wasn't implying anything about any other shaming existing or not existing, just talking about this one specific shame movement, honey.

[personal profile] thewakokid 2017-09-02 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. I wasn't really trying to call you out or anything (See the 4chan text) Just thought it was worth mentioning this ain't new shit.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Psh, it's not "new." I was seeing this whole "women fetishizing gay men and thus their kink is problematic" shit ten years ago.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm losing it at SINBITS

[personal profile] arcadiaego 2017-09-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep reading it as snibits which is nonsensical but somehow works.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That very specific "how dare straight women fetishize gay men via slash and yaoi" shame movement has existed at least since I got an lj in 2001 (and probably before, I just don't have the cites before then.) So it depends how you define "new", I guess. We beat it back pretty hard in the late-00s, it's just on yet another upswing now.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking new as in within the last 40 years. I think, though I'm not 100% sure, slash fanfic wasn't well known enough before the Trek zines started to specifically shame for it, but I'm sure it was included in the general shaming.

DA

That said, do you agree that there *are* women out there who, like straight men, are writing same-sex porn for essentially fetishistic purposes?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
>you try being a dude online who likes watching women fucking

why are you such a dudebro wako
thewakokid: (Default)

[personal profile] thewakokid 2017-09-02 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Not particularly offended by this, but would a dudebro spend less time online watching women fucking, and more time in the real world doing, or trying to do the fucking themselves?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, WHY do people have to do the green text and > thing on here? F!S is not 4chan, stop it.
thewakokid: (Default)

[personal profile] thewakokid 2017-09-02 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not 4chan YET. I'm working on it, tho!

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It's honestly a useful shorthand, if you understand the implications of greentexting. Additionally, it reads better than quotation marks if you're straight up quoting someone. Language tends to adopt useful words and techniques so I find "but it's from 4chan"ing a unenlightened attempt at policing convenient techniques.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-02 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's any clearer than quoting.

And, to be perfectly honest, I agree that language adopts useful words and techniques, but I think "it's from 4chan" is also a reasonable objection. Because the use of greentext is inextricably entangled within the broader style of 4chan - the uses of language and, on a higher level, the norms and attitudes and ideas that animate 4chan as a forum - and it is perfectly reasonable to object to those and to not want to see them adopted here.

Do people who aren't on 4chan "understand the implications of greentexting?" If it's something only certain people will understand, it's not that useful in general.

Unless you want to make sure only certain people fully understand you.

>implying anyone gives a shit about your 4chan hateboner

We do it to piss you off, nonny.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-03 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Because this isn't 4chan, so there's literally no point to using that style, and it's obnoxious to those who don't know what it means. Like if I decided for no reason to post here in Swahili (or something) and told those who didn't get it to just look it up.

Lesbian porn is made 90% for straight men.

Gay male characters have entire subgenres for gay men.
