Please tell me my coworkers are not normal (TW for incest)
(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)Anyway, today we had a newish client (let's call him John Smith) come in. Someone asked him about his weekend plans and he got to chatting with my coworkers. One asked if he was doing something special with his girlfriend (she thinks he's hot and she's not exactly subtle) and he said he didn't have a girlfriend. Anyway, conversation continues, and he mentions that he lives with his brother. At that point, Coworker #1 (let's call her Amy) nudges Coworker #2 (let's call him Tim) and gives him this weird look. They continued talking, and John left soon after that. As soon as he's out the door, Amy turns to Tim and says "you heard that, right?" He starts laughing and says "you know what that means!"
I was a little lost at that point and figured I missed something since I was trying to get some work done while this was going on and only halfway paying attention, so I asked what they were talking about. Tim says "he lives with his brother and he doesn't have a girlfriend!". At first I wasn't getting it, but Tim is gay and is always pointing out when he thinks clients are, so I thought he was probably thinking the dude's "brother" isn't really his brother, but his boyfriend and he didn't want to talk about it. I said pretty much that and he said "yeah, if he looks anything like John, that would be so hot". I'd meant that he had a boyfriend and was calling him his brother because he didn't want to admit he was gay, but Tim took what I said to mean that I thought the guy WAS his brother and they were sleeping together, and that's apparently what he'd meant. Then Amy joined in saying it would definitely be hot, and at that point two other coworkers (let's call them Tina and Dave) came over and asked what was hot. Amy said "John Smith is banging his brother" and they both started laughing. Dave (also gay) agreed that it would be hot because John is hot and Tina said something like "man on man isn't my thing" but that she didn't think anything was wrong with it if they WERE sleeping together since it's not like they could have "fucked up babies".
I said "I don't care if they can't have babies, it's still messed up" and got called uptight and a prude. WHAT THE FUCK. There are four people agreeing that it's totally fine to have sex with your siblings as long as you don't have kids. When did this because normal?! (Also, where is the logic in thinking that if he lives with his brother and doesn't have a girlfriend he must be having sex with his brother?!)
Am I just completely out of touch and this is considered totally fine now, or are my coworkers a bunch of weirdos?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)Holy living fuck that should be NOT rather than hot.
Re: Please tell me my coworkers are not normal (TW for incest)
(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 01:02 am (UTC)(link)I don't think they're actually condoning incest, nor do I think they would if they were confronted with it IRL, but I think they were appreciating John Smith's aesthetic and the mental image of two John Smiths going at it, the same way that people enjoy selfcest fanfic or pairing characters across canons who are played by the same actor.
So I think your coworkers are a bunch of weirdos, but I also think you're thinking about it too hard because they didn't mean it literally, even though it's a gross and taboo subject to joke about.
Re: Please tell me my coworkers are not normal (TW for incest)
Like, yeah there's a good chance it's a fucked up relationship, but plenty of couples have fucked up relationships. I'm not going to be like "woah that's messed up they definitely shouldn't be having sex!" if I see some 24/7 D/s couple together, or an older dude dating a young-20s chick, even though those could be just as fucked up. And their relationship would still be messed even if they weren't fucking each other, the sex is just an action it's the thoughts and social dynamics that are the real problem.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 01:48 am (UTC)(link)What exactly do you mean by this? That if they weren't fucking but they wanted to it'd be just as messed up as if they actually were? And what do you mean by social dynamics? (Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, it's been a really long day.)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 01:56 am (UTC)(link)On the other hand, if you're going "it's absolutely morally wrong for two consenting adults, whose circumstances I know nothing about, to have sex with each other because I say so," yeah, we disagree on principle.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 05:25 am (UTC)(link)I'm echoing your confusion about "Lives with brother, therefore has sex with brother." Like, everything else aside, that's just a weird conclusion to draw.
