When characters are always a step ahead and more superior than everyone else. I love competent characters, but if it's "always prepared for everthing and never caught off guard" every single time without failt or exception it gets annoying fast (looking at you, Bungou Stray Dogs' Dazai).

Manic Pixie Dream Girls (and the male counterpart).

Cringey comic relief characters.

Regarding your first point: this is why I dislike almost every fictional character who's modeled on David Xanatos. Van Kleiss in Generator Rex is a particularly terrible example of the type, while Vlad Masters in Danny Phantom pleasantly subverts it by being much less intelligent, charismatic, and competent than he thinks he is.

Curiously, it often annoys me a bit more in heroes/"good guys" than in villains - probably because the villains usually go down eventually. For villains, the "can't even win a single time but keeps coming back" gets a little grating for my tastes, too.

I think my main issue is: as soon as a character trope makes one side look too superior and by extension the opposing side kind of pathetic, dumb or OTT weak, it gets boring because things are too out of balance and it usually takes ridiculous power ups to level the field again.

Your first one is why I stopped watching Dreamworks Dragons.

"Our friends are in trouble, should we rescue them? Maybe it's a trap and we should stay and defend the island. Or maybe he knows we know it's a trap and we should go. But if he knows we know he knows we know it's a trap, we should stay. But if..." And then it was a trap, and also they shouldn't have stayed, and both wine glasses were poisoned, because ermagurg he's soooo clever.
