"Came out as gay". Okay... but a) the whole world knew that, b) if a guy accuses you of sexual assault, you're pretty much outed anyway, so I don't feel like addressing that part of the situation is 'trying to throw the media off'.

Without knowing full facts, the one thing that burns me about the whole situation is the "OMG HE'S A PEDOPHILE" bullshit being flung around. Being 26 and going after a 14 year old that apparently looked 17 is sketch and wrong and deserves no defending if that's what happened, but it's not fucking pedophila, jesus h christ people.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
that apparently looked 17

What is wrong with you for saying this

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Because personally 26 and 17 isn't that weird to me?

+1

Ugh. People who imply that an adult is less responsible for doing something they know is wrong because an underage person may look or act older.

Stop that. That is gross.

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
So if I hit on someone I assume is also an adult, it's my fault for not knowing they're not an adult?

Legally? Yes, it is. Considering how shit you are at determining ages, you might want to card all the jailbait you apparently go after.

Except Spacey specifically invited him and likely knew his age? But keep defending sexual assault?

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
We're assuming he knew his age? But that's conjecture. I'm 34 and I've looked the same since I was 15. I had people hit on me assuming I was way older.

It's not like people ask for ID before hooking up. Though maybe we need to start.

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that you are acting like he just hit on a 14 year old instead of sexually assaulted.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that we have any idea what the fuck happened when it was 30 years ago. Girl, I can't even remember what I did five years ago.

AFAIK it was like... a cast party for a show that they were doing together, to which Spacey invited Rapp

It's not like they met each other on the street, or Rapp snuck into a bar, or something

When Rapp first met Spacey in 1986, he was a couple of months into the Broadway run of Precious Sons, starring Ed Harris and Judith Ivey, for which Rapp was receiving significant praise. At the same time, Spacey was enjoying his first major break with a supporting role alongside his idol Jack Lemmon in a revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night.

So yeah, Spacey almost certainly knew.

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

Which had to be fucking addressed if he gets outed... so should he have just apologized and not mentioned the fact that it was a man accusing him?

You mean, like this:

(Rapp was a year older when Adventures in Babysitting was Filmed.)

I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure how much it applies in this case. I mean, I've seen pics of Rapp from that time period and it's a stretch to say be looked 17 - even by the standards of stereotypically waify gay men. It's not exactly a Rob Lowe sex tape case.

That said, if you take both men at their word, I think Spacey is probably handling it better than anyone else whose had accusations levied at them. The sexuality deflection isn't great and I'd like a conversation a out substance abuse, but if we're talking about something he has no memory of and Rapp has no proof of, I think it speaks to his character that he didn't deny, didn't fling mud but apologized for somethi g awful he might have done.

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-31 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Or it implies that he knows he can't realistically deny it because he has a long, extensive history of doing similar things.

I disagree with the OP on this whole "we just don't know" stance, but your thing is even further down the pure conjecture road.

Re: This twitter thread (LGBT and consent)

It's been rumored and talked about.

Anthony Rapp did not look 17 at age 14! He looked quite babyfaced.

Apparently looked 17?!

(Anonymous) 2017-10-31 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Where are you getting that from? He looked twelve. Here's Rapp's interview: https://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/anthony-rapp-kevin-spacey-made-sexual-advance-when-i-was-14?utm_term=.fw2Q2kGoxD#.jrm4No6jGQ Look at the picture of him in the play at the time and tell me he looked 17.
