Yes, because POC who look nothing alike are all interchangeable.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
....you do know the casts of both have people of various races? I was also thinking of some of the personalities of both. But good job on projecting there!

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-06 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, the question is why Robert = Reyes on the basis of having vaguely medium-dark skin and beards.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
But you have no problem with comparing the white guys?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, in almost all of the game art released during the development of Dream Daddy, Soldier 76 was at least a decade older and didn't even have a face. Also, Joseph is a manipulative fink (arguably referencing Angels in America. Soldier 76's introductory video was heroic.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
....you do understand people are not saying they are 100% copies? I am just going to focus on these two.

The comparison between S76 and Joseph are 100% looks if you just go by himself.
Reyes and Robert are based on looks and gross generalizations of their personalities. Meaning, in both fandoms they are characterized as edgelords/emos.

Together, they are both couples who have a history and a bad falling apart.

Like, do you get super pissed off when people compare characters like Hawkeye and Green Arrow?

OMG! Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter are THE SAME CHARACTER!

OMG! Luke Skywalker and Dracula are THE SAME CHARACTER!

Given the long history of Marvel and DC explicitly copying each other, probably not. But if you're going to argue that Blizzard let themselves be ripped off after aggressively pursuing copyright infringement, you need something a bit stronger than vague and superficial fan meta.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
No one is saying they are the exact same character. They are saying it looks like they were being inspired by them. Considering who the creators are, it lends credence to that.

Have you just started getting into fandom? Have you never seen people do these kinds of comparisons before?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Characters with only the shallowest similarities are inspired by each other?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
According to fandom? Possibly. Or maybe, just maybe people are having fun with fandom.

Going by the pics in the secret, they're both large, maybe overweight, brown skinned, short haired, and wearing black with hoods. Pretty similar to me...

The white guys are pretty interchangeable, too, aside from shades of blond.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Where the hell are you getting overweight from?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
So hold on, that's supposed to be Mat (who wears a completely different hoodie, since he's a bit of a hipster) and not Robert (who wears a leather jacket because he's rough trade?)

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
What are you on about? The person you are replying to is wrong. Those are ALL pics of Reyes/Morrison. That is an OW fanart book.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Are we back to "I'm DD didn't *really* steal from Blizzard IP, it stole from OOC fan art of Blizzard IP."

Robert doesn't wear a hoodie, or a cap.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
....what does that matter? You do know character designs are generally not stolen whole cloth.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
We get a handful of games every year dedicated to LGBTQ life and people piss all over it with comparisons that range from shallow stretching to racist. Because y'all can't let LGBTQ-centered media be it's own thing without shoe-horning it into the superwholock of the day.

It's another case of fandom pushing the hot ship of the day over LGBTQ-centered media.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's another case of fandom pushing the hot ship of the day over EVERY PIECE OF MEDIA EVER THAT GETS POPULAR.

If you don't like that, get out of fandom. Because fandom will cross over forever and ever, regardless of how untouchable you think your fandom is.

Accusing a studio of engaging in legally actionable copyright infringement isn't a "crossover."

Is Dream Daddy really the game you want to fight this battle over?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Look at those two POC in this secret. So people. Much color.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It seems pretty clear to me that cbarachrhrhrhr is talking about the POC Overwatch characters from the secret not actually being similar to the POC characters in Dream Daddy?

Like, am I missing something here? It seems like a very clear point that cbarry is making but people seem to be very confused?

I actually don't think Gabe=Robert at all, though they still (VERY RARELY, I admit) share some similarities. For me it's all about young Soldier76 looking exactly like Joseph and overall couple dinamics/history feelin similar. I know it's the same artist and the same type of character (?? at least visualy???) in Joseph's case, but still.

Thanks for the comment. I apologize for misreading you based on earlier conversations in this area.

No prob! I actually agree that other DDADDS characters (especially poc) don't feel like OW cast at all, but when it comes to Joseph I'm just... yeah. Have my doubts.
