Totally agree with you! I've had the biggest crush on Professor Higgins (and Rex Harrison!) for ages. And now that I think about it I've always tried to be like the person the Professor described in "Why Can't a Woman be More Like a Man?"

My favorite MFL scene is near the very end, where Colonel Pickering is trying to describe Eliza's hair and eye color to the police and off-camera the Professor is having a temper tantrum and shouting "Brown! BROWN BROWN BROWN!"

Because that's when you and the Professor realize that he's been looking, really looking at Eliza all this time and she's much more to him than just a piece "of baggage". :)

109) It's a japanese thing. Best I can guess is that the Japanese are waaaaaay more locked into set behavior roles in relationships than westerners are, and the whole top/bottom thing is just codifying things so the reader knows what to expect from each of the characters. It's so damn common in anime, I suspect it just spread from there to other fandoms.

124) It seems like they are trying to anime-ize the characters (Big eyes, chibi proportions, no baby chub left), which is too bad. They were adorable and distinctive as they were. That Strawberry just seems rather ... generic.

149) I can only conclude that you hate all us readers with a passion. That hurt my eyes, and I wasn't even trying to read it that hard. By the way, couldn't read a single word. Not one.

HOLY SHIT I COULD NOT DO THAT "BATTLE" AT ALL

I WAS CRYING SO HARD IT WAS 2AM OR SOMETHING WHEN I BEAT IT. The Price of Freedom song gets to me so hard because of that. I was just bawling so hard I couldn't even try to defend myself. AND I HAD DOC'S CODE AND RAISE STATUS SO IT TOOK FOREVER.

I'm going over it again. I do all the missions I can so I keep myself occupied from 'advancing' through it. ohjeez.

Zack. ;__; ♥ I love him. I was crying so hard. I cried through the whole game basically, since I knew the outcome, and just seeing him get hurt and stuff like that was horrible. Seeing him happy in the beginning made me want to cry too because you know how it ends.

I'm getting a little worried about the way people react to this. It tends to be:
1. Making them switch will somehow make them better characters
2. Hating on feminine men being ukes

I RP as Maraich, and it makes me worry people will see him and think they already know everything about his character just because he can be mistaken for a girl and bottoms.

But I really like Maraich because I always get the feeling from his character that he likes being that way. I think that he likes being pretty, he likes being sexy, he likes being a man, he likes clinging on his man, he likes cooking, and he daydreams about staying home with two kids...
He seems to like all the stereotypes that people hate and most people would say, "he wants to be a woman". But I never feel like he wants to be a woman.

I'd hate if people overlook characters like him just because they don't like feminine ukes.

In RL "topping" is not only about who's in charge of the game (as it is with straight couples), but also about whether you end up having a dick in your ass or not, sorry to put it so bluntly. I know a lot of gays who enjoy switching (yet still have their preferences), but I know quite a few who never had anything in their assholes bigger than a tongue, and who don't plan to change it. There are also those who don't enjoy physically topping at all (they can still be in charge of the game all the way - in yaoi it's called "demanding uke"). Obviously, if you end up in a relationship with these kind of guys, you have to account for this.

Anime/manga is about absolutes - and that's exactly why artists and writers often give their characters very clear preferences.

Every journal or identity has its own purpose. Writing about RL doesn't make you that much deeper, better, or more sophisticated. Not writing about your life doesn't make anyone shallow either. I never expose my real life to people who aren't in it to protect myself on the net. I actually think it's a bad idea to expose yourself to strangers and am baffled that I'm apparently in the minority. Similarly, I don't shove fandom material down my offline friends' throat unless we share the fandom. There's a lot more to a person than what they write about on LJ.

It's not on DVD (and probably never will be), but the forum on bigwolfoncampus.org is a main hub for episode sharing. If you're into BitTorrent, there's a full torrent of all three seasons floating around there, and it's always active.
