Fanart. Deep down I know it's mostly amateurs doing it for fun, results be damned, but I've spent so much time getting good I can't enjoy anything less than professional even though my own skills aren't quite there.

Law and court stuff in general. I really would love to be able to watch more shows about lawyers/the court system. But every single time (I think Judging Amy may be the only exception, and that one was super accurate) I end up finding something to get annoyed about.

I've mentioned this before, but spelling.

I do try to never judge people based on how they spell but it's very hard for me to read anything with spelling errors. I keep noticing them and getting frustrated. It shouldn't matter if I can understand the content but it still gets on my nerves.

Things like leaving the cupboard doors open or my dad leaving his socks on the floor. Like would be easier if I could just roll with it.

Mostly grammar and spelling issues. Errors, but also certain phrases that, if you think about them, make no actual sense, but they're common sayings. (And of course, there aren't any specific examples I can think of right now.)

I feel bad about unconciously internalizing some attitudes about the 'right way' to do fandom and fanfic from early on in fandom, things like being judgey of traits that ultimatley weren't that big a deal.

I always keep my mouth shut on them of course. I just wish I could not have them, because the idea of judging some kid for having fun, especially if they were like me and used fandom as escapism for problems irl, makes me wanna curl up and die.

Oh, Oprah's speech was the bomb. & I was surprised to see This is Me win best song. It's not even the best song in TGS.

I think picking a color other than black might have been better. Because then the men couldn't just wear what they normally wear. But I still thought it cool that everyone pretty much was wearing the same color and supporting the message.

Oprah's speech was great, and I don't even usually care at all about her. But great speech.

Still think it's a bit ridiculous to see some of the same ladies who never stopped supporting people like Roman Polanski and Woody Allen and would still fall all over themselves to act in any movie those guys would make if asked to be wearing black and pretending to be all affected.

Character design tips?

All of my fanart has been coming out shit recently, so I started trying to design my own universe/characters/creatures last night, which I haven't done for ages. I've fallen behind on my art stuff massively since starting work. I started making a comic when I was 13 (which unfortunately still floats around on DA) and it was awful, but I really enjoyed the process.

And basically I'm getting frustrated because everything I'm sketching just looks so derivative and unconsciously copying something from an existing game/movie/etc. I was semi-happy with a monster design last night until I looked at it just now and realised it was basically Trico from Last Guardian with the serial numbers filed off. I know it's a long and complicated process that takes a lot of development, but does anyone have any advice on character design or world building?

The polling is done and Into The Abyss has won! I have links to some alternative streaming places on my dreamwidth. But this movie is on Netflix, Hulu, AND Youtube!

We will discuss the movie January 20th (so quite a while from now). This will also be the last movie in January and I won't be doing another vote until the first week of February. I hope to see you all there, however I know this is a pretty tough subject for some people to watch. I'll probably have a modified set of questions since this is a documentary.

Also, I have some questions!

1) Any suggestions for the movie club in 2018? Should we go back to movies only on certain sites? Different questions? Different nominations/voting procedures? Go to only once a month? Whatever.

2) What themes do you all want to see for nomination periods? I also have the cards I can draw stuff from.

I am back up Secret Santa-ing for IMGUR (I already sent my assigned SS gift out), and my new giftee likes hunting and sci-fi/fantasy novels.

Any recommendations for either would be awesome, as I know pretty much nothing about hunting and am not super into sci-fi/fantasy to know what's popular/good.
