Spoonfed, handed to fandom, it all comes to the same thing really. :P

A lot of media makes m/m shipping very, very easy, and m/f as well tbh it just depends if the canon ship works for you is all.

This was my first thought, even as someone who often ships those relationships. Male-male friendship is practically sacred in lots of canons, so boohoo, OP.

Same here. My friend got married on Halloween on top of a mountain as the sun was setting; the reception was in one of the park barns that they rented out, one friend did the DJing, everyone brought food, and we all wore costumes to the reception. It was fun as hell and didn't cost very much at all.

Oh, and her bachelorette party was dinner at a steakhouse and then a trip to a haunted house afterward.

I sort of used to be one, just because I wrote a lot of fic on a kink meme (and would post them later unanon) and people could pretty much call me out on my writing style. But fortunately I never got into the drama with being a BNF.

If you choose to cave in to "societal pressure" to have a big wedding, then sure it's expensive. But it's not that hard to NOT cave. Lots of people don't have expensive weddings.

This is an issue in a lot of canons, and hell I like shipping m/f pairs as well but I'd also love to see more m+f bffs without romance in media.

My exact thoughts. I don't think she was ever trying to write romantic plots as a main focus in Harry Potter, and considering that it was...fine? I thought the Ron/Hermione bickering went overboard at times, but aside from that I feel like her status as a "romance author" is irrelevant and I just...didn't care.

Depends on what you count as expensive. If you're doing the aforementioned backyard barbecue wedding + Target dress, sure, you can do it on the cheap.

If you want to get married in a venue you have to rent and plan to host a dinner/dance, then you are going to spend a couple grand at least. Not all weddings are $20,000+, but even cheaper weddings are going to be somewhat expensive. But then, I also don't think it's particularly weird to put a little money into hosting a nice party for a very special event.

As someone who genuinely likes Harry/Ginny, omg she was awful at it. Harry's 'chest monster' still makes me laugh. And him describing Ginny as 'his best sort of comfort' is a super weird way to refer to the girl you love and are dating. IDEK.

Ron/Hermione was fine and super cute in the early books. The problem was in later books Hermione never really gives Ron any credit for knowing anything and Ron never really supports Hermione in any venture. And then there was the whole Hermione siccing the canaries on Ron and him still having scratches from them weeks later... though, I confess, while I adore Hermione in the early books by the end of the series I loathed her. So. That colors it too.

Remus/Tonks was flat out terrible.

I thought she did a really nice job on Bill and Fleur. I'll give her that one. I liked Harry/Cho as a terrible first crush romance. It felt horrifically embarrassing and realistic and I enjoyed that.

And I agree with the anon that from the way she wrote it, Harry/Luna was my endgame guess. They would have been sweet, I think.

I've never wondered why coming out (to me or others) was important to someone. Never. Of course it's important. It's a part of who you are. It's a part of your self-identity.

I mean, if someone genuinely feels it's not important, that's ok too, but I think feeling that it is important for the people in your life to know this about you, and for you to know that they accept you, is entirely normal and understandable.

Exactly. And the thing is, with places like Twitter and Tumblr, it doesn't matter what you're even fighting about, how pointless the shit-flinging gets, and what we're doing to society - all that's important is that we keep getting aggravated at each other, and keep spending time on those sites, because the more time we spend there, the more richer some corporate interest who owns it gets.

There are CEOs stuffing thier pockets with our anger and envy and fear and everything else that makes us act like our worse selves and it's just... something we shouldn't keep playing into.
