I really want more representation for LGBT characters, and I'll be the first to agree that there isn't enough, but I'm not going to pick certain characters and then pitch a fit that they in particular are straight.

Note that unless you live under a rock, relating to people who don't look pretty or are older than you are is simply a fact of life. So the last clause is also a lie.

While those ships are not my thing, all are backed by a fair degree of personal attraction for them. I wouldn't call johnlock "non-sexy" given how many former and current cumberbitches are running around.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)I get bored by stories, whether original or fanfic, where the most important element is how hot the characters are. I don’t think shipping only because people find both characters hot is only a slash thing, though. And in my experience fic with that emphasis tends to devolve into romance novel and/or manly top/effeminate bottom clichés almost immediately.

I think there is some legit cases in regards to marketing and PR teams for some things, but for the most part it's people picking a pair of characters they want ship(who were never going to be put together) and crying baiting when it doesn't happen.
The word's gotten ruined by entitled fandoms tbh.
