Snack Day Foods

(Anonymous) 2018-02-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
My job is having a snack day for February birthdays. Usually, I would make something like brownies but the event is at 9:30am! So what are your favorite easy to make and can feed like 30 people snack food for breakfast.

Mini quiches? Blueberry muffins? Biscuits with ham and cheese or honey butter. Maybe get plastic cups and you can make yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit and granola?

If you've never had brownies for breakfast, you are missing out.

That said, bread pudding is relatively easy (you can even do it with donuts). Or muffins (like maple pancake muffins). Or a sweet bread (like cinnamon swirl). Or you could do a fruit salad.

Plain mini bagels and different flavored cream cheeses.

When my former employer had morning meetings, staff were supposed to bring food to share. That was what I used to bring and it was a hit.

Another co-worker would often stop at Hardee's and get sausage biscuits, but we usually had less than 20 people and the biscuits were less than $0.80.

One time everyone brought stuff like chopped mushrooms, shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, chopped ham, green peppers, and onions. Our manager brought eggs since she had a mini farm with several hens. Someone brought a portable hot plate, a pot, and freezer Ziploc bags. We made bagged omelettes.

Damn, that’s a lot of work for a staff meeting.

Cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, fruit salad, a quiche if you’re feeling fancy... heck, far be it from me to turn down breakfast brownies. If you bring it, they will eat.

Makeup

I know shit about makeup but I want to learn. What is some basic makeup I should buy and learn to use? I especially want something to deal with how red my face gets.

The Basics:
Primer, Foundation and/or Concealer, Powder, Blush, Eyeliner, Mascara, Eyeshadow palette, Lip stuff. (You'll also want makeup remover and a good magnifying mirror ime)

Figure out what skin type you have (oily, combo, dry, normal) and any other special needs you might have. Like you mention redness, so a full coverage foundation might be better than a BB Cream or trying to spot-conceal. If you sweat a lot or it's hot/wet where you live, you might want a waterproof mascara. If you have to look professional you probably want neutral eyeshadow colors rather than glittery rainbows. etc.

Then go up on Sephora/Ulta/the interwebs and look at reviews of products in each category to find the best ones in your price range. They might not work well for you for some reason, but really the only way to figure it out is to just jump in and start trying stuff.

If you happen to have a Sephora or major brand store with a MAC or Sephora counter, go check it out. Sephora has a skin ID tool where they ccan match your complexion and they also help you do your makeup/can instruct you (do be prepared to buy at least one item, even if it's a Sephora brand lip balm or something) on how to do your make up. Once you have the basic elements, YouTube & drugstores are the way to go. Although it's nice to splurge on brand stuff occasionally. Speaking to an actual person who will do your makeup so will see how it's applied and what works best for you is really helpful, especially when you tell them your normal routine (Do you moisturize daily, is your skin oily? dry? etc).

if you want to go hard
there's primer, follow up with foundation, then concealer, then blending all of that (and there are different kinds of concealer to cancel out certain colors, if I'm not mistaken) , eyeliner and lipstick, some blush, and a final powder to lock and smooth it all out

As far as foundations go, if you have redness, then maybe a buildable or full coverage concealer might be best for you. (I prefer liquid over powder, but that's up to you). If you don't have the money or resources, play around with the cheaper brands. And maybe bb or cc cream might be good for you (do some research though)

Good luck!

Adding to what the others said: there are also green primers you can put on under your foundation, this counteracts redness on a larger area than with a concealer.

What is a nice, inexpensive (under 10 bucks) moisturizer? I have what you'd call 'normal' skin - not dry, not oily - but this winter has friggin' killed, and my face is *so* dry.

I usually use whatever hand lotion i have lying around, but it's not cutting it.
Any suggestions?

I use Nivea Soft. I love it, you don't feel it on your skin like a heavy weight after applying, but it just feels so nice. And best of all it's not expensive (I think I got my jar for like $8-something at Wal-Mart?).

My mother always had Ponds cold cream. I wasn't really aware of anything else they made. Nice! Thank you. :)

My skin is oily/combination I guess?

I use coconut oil daily. Sometimes I use cocoa butter. You don't have to put a whole bunch, just a bit is enough to keep my skin from feeling cracked.

I am wary of oil. I just can't imagine it not being sticky and heavy. But my daughter uses it sometimes, so i'll have to give it a try. Thanks!

E45! It's not fancy, comes in an unromantic medicinal-looking tub and is so cheap it puts a lot of people off, funnily enough. But just google some beauty reviews of this stuff. It suits pretty much all skin types and works wonders. When I tell people this is my secret they are always surprised as I look like the kind of person who spends a lot on beauty products, but this stuff is magic. It's available in all chemists / supermarkets here in the UK, but I'm not sure about other countries. You can probably buy a giant tub online for about $5 - $10.

Well, Amazon UK has it, so it's an option. Thanks!
