Ugh, PETA. I'm all for animal rights, but PETA is awful. PETA needs to go away. I would have thought better of Anderson. She's really okay being treated like meat? Because that's how PETA treats women (notice that they don't have any of these naked ads with men in them). And I didn't think she'd be okay with that. Also, PETA is not actually good for animals. At all.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I so wish these people would do some research about PETA before agreeing to do ads for them. PETA are batshit crazy.

Also makes me feel like celebrities support PETA of all groups because what other animal organization would want them to take attention-seeking naked pics as a means of supporting it? Maybe the legit animal welfare organizations don't give them the kind of publicity they want.

you just basically said everything I was going to say.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree about PETA, but there are ads with naked men. There are also a ton of ads with only shirtless men, but some do get naked.

PETA has naked men ads? Did not know that. Do they have ones like the ones where they have a woman and have lines dividing her body like meat?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
The moment I read this secret, I *knew* this was a female nudity issue.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You had to read it to get that?

Yeah fuck PETA tbh, they're goddamn awful and spread misinformation so far and wide, it wouldn't surprise me if the celebs they get to endorse their shit don't actually know much and genuinely believe the bullshit PETA spouts because I've certainly met plenty of regular people who weren't aware of how awful they are.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. I mean, PETA does suck, but I'm inclined to cut people slack for stuff like this.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm of two minds. On the one hand, a lot of people don't realize what an awful, deceptive organization PETA is. But if you're a celebrity and you're lending your personal endorsement to an organization, I actually do think it's on you to check them out. It wouldn't take a whole lot of research in this case, a quick Google would tell you (or your personal assistant, or your agent) that PETA is not a good company.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I feel like I just don't expect actors and actresses to be especially political literate, slash, am not sure if that's a reasonable expectation. Maybe that's insulting to them, IDK.

And, then, the other thing is that animal rights is a genuinely good cause, being served by a mostly bad organization. So it's a little more complicated of a situation for someone to have to sort out. I'm sure PETA representatives can say tons of nice things about what they're doing for animals.

Maybe she supports the specific ad message.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And doesn't really know much about PETA.

Re: Maybe she supports the specific ad message.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
IMO, it would be pretty irresponsible to agree to an international ad campaign that uses your nude likeness without knowing much about the organization you're doing it for.

Nope. I don't own any fur items and I won't be owning any, but if the choice is naked or fur, and I'm outside in, say, Chicago in January? Fur.

I suppose it was silly of me to think Gillian Anderson was smarter than this, but I did, and now I am sad. :(

PETA sucks.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like a lot of celebrities don't do much research into the charities they rep for. Just pose for the picture and talk about how much you love animals.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Someone I love was in a building that was bombed by a group PETA supports (the ADL). I have no time for anyone who advocates for that horrible organization.

The ALF destroys property but they've never killed anyone to my knowledge. That's a part of their credo. How is destroying property to stop animals from being murdered that bad.

I'm an animal rights activist and vegan, been so for almost a decade, and I hate PETA, but what I hate more are animal eating humans who bitch about PETA killing animals. You can't support industries that torture and murder billions of animals a year, then complain about PETA euthanizing some of the animals that go through their doors. They're still doing more for animals than some meat eater who wants an excuse to hate on vegans.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh honey, your persecution complex is showing.
And no. If you seriously think Peta is doing better for animals than meat eaters, you really need to do your research again because damn, you're so wrong. And a bit of a hypocrite yourself.

I think people conflate Gillian and Scully way too much. Scully can be cool. But Gillian has always struck me as sort of full of herself, not that bright, and a bit of a slut.

This is way late and I'm sure won't be answered

[personal profile] greycoupon 2018-03-12 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
but I have to ask, why in the hell do you think Gillian is a slut? I don't care if you don't like her but I am unclear what slut shaming her is about. She was married twice and had several other long term relationships. Soooo....I think she may have done a few sexy magazine spreads back in the day. Is that it?
