Also, she loves to attack my dad's feet. Just his. Well, mine in the morning. But his all day, every day, every time she sees him.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 01:30 am (UTC)(link)I don't know if it works for cats, but you might try Bitter Apple spray on the headphones, because it could be really dangerous if kitty gets in the habit of chewing wires. Otherwise, redirect. Don't let kitty attack dad's feet, redirect with a toy. Don't let him even start playing before Dad walks away or shoos him off. He shouldn't associate feet with being a toy. Redirect with an appropriate toy.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 02:31 am (UTC)(link)It took my cat a little under a week to learn that she's not allowed on the kitchen counters that way. I would just give her a light spritz with a mini plant mister whenever I caught her up there. It didn't hurt her, it just made her not want to be up there, which was the goal.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 01:58 am (UTC)(link)If the cat can't be in the shared space without destroying things and attacking people, it doesn't belong in the shared space. Either it will learn and adjust the behaviour accordingly or it won't and you're the new warden of cat prison, and you job is to keep it and everyone else safe until it dies.
That's the part of cat ownership people like to gloss over. Sometimes you just end up with one that wants to watch the world burn and there's no reasoning with cats. I've had one nice cat who would definitely die in the wild - no hunting instincts, a bit dim. I've had one seemingly nice cat who was basically a tiny serial killer with a great poker face, very manipulative. The other two were directly spawned by Satan himself though. Just no remorse or off switch. 100% murder machines 24/7.
Good luck.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 03:49 am (UTC)(link)With the feet, is your dad reacting in such a way that the cat finds prey behavior? Shrinking, fleeing, pulling away, etc. Or lashing out against the attack with more violence? The redirect method works best with this, make sure it's with a toy that they find better prey than the feet, but at the same time, dad needs to stop making himself a target. You can't know why kitty has decided his feet are prey and no one else's, but when you make them uninteresting - they don't move, they don't jump, they don't go hide - and replace it with a toy, that should help.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)With your dad's feet, he needs to tell her sharply "No", remove her, and ignore her until she settles. And - and this is usually the hard part - he needs to do it every time, and not encourage the behavior if he has shoes/thick socks/a blanket. She won't understand context, so she's not going to grasp the difference between when the human has shoes on and won't be hurt by her playing, and when the human has no shoes on and might bleed.
