I think you'd have to be pretty biased not to see that Tony stans have always been borderline Loki stan tier obnoxious. They're far and away much worse.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

It makes sense considering Tony/Loki is such a big pairing. Also, they are both rich assholes with daddy issues.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
I always find it interesting how Tony being rich is such a strike against him in some fans' eyes. Also, being a genius, they hate that, too. It makes me raise an eyebrow when they say it. These things are not things to call him an asshole for. I only think ill of rich people who act poorly with their privilege. Tony is generous with his. And people who despise intelligence...they generally make very bad decisions in their lives.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's used as a strike against him because he grew up privileged as shit. And yet he still remains whiny and like his life is so hard when he's with a group of people who have had it far worse than "waaaahhhh muh daddy issues". It's pretty obvious.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Made even worse by the fandom constantly woobifying Tony when, no, he's had a much better life than a lot of the other Avengers. Thankfully Bucky has completely overshadowed Loki so the obnoxious over woobification of him has ceased, but the Tony woobifying train will never stop no matter how many times he repeats the same character arc while never growing because there's really nothing more you can do with him as a character.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony was generous with his ONLY after he got hurt personally. he was a complete asshole for the first 40 years of his life.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I just don't really get it I guess. Steve is my favorite and Tony is my second favorite, and it took me a year and a half to get around to watching CW because of that. But afterwards I wanted ALL the reconciliation fic. But when I got into it, even avoiding stuff that was tagged "Not Team Cap Friendly", it seemed like most of the stuff I found was a thinly disguised excuse to drag Steve and make him grovel and show how poor poor Tony was so used and abused. Yeah not here for that. It's been a bit frustrating.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Disclaimer: I've seen the movies, but I'm not really in the fandom.

This doesn't really surprise me? Captain America's MCU's golden boy, and Iron Man's a perpetual fuck-up. No one needs to write "everyone apologizes to Steve Rogers and admits he was right all along, and now everyone loves him best," because that's canon. Captain America is always right. It's why he's in charge of the Avengers and all the non-supers that aren't specifically working for Tony Stark like him best.

I mean, character bashing fic still sucks, but is it really a shock that "fuck-up gets his day" gets written more than "winner keeps on winning?" Honestly, the Steve stans and the Tony stans are still about tied in the annoying race. "Tony the Woobie" is an annoying, but obvious, trend, and the level of outrage generated by Steve stans over the implication that he may not have been 100% right in all his actions in CW could power a small continent. It's gotten to the point that I hope both characters die in the next movie and T'challa and Peter Quill become the new MCU power couple.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
You'd have an argument if you were talking about the comics, but holy shit, Cap is nowhere near treated like MCU's golden boy. Iron Man is the MCU's golden boy given how much ridiculous dick sucking there is for him and how much screen time he eats up. Hell, he ate up most of the Avengers, Cap's own movie, and of course had to be in Spider Man's too. He's the Wolverine of the MCU. The first Avengers movie practically went out of its way to shit all over Cap and portray Tony as a hero. And Tony keeps going through the exact same character arc in every film, but somehow keeps getting away with fucking up and never changing. Also, Steve has suffered far more than Tony ever has.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're pretty much proving my point here with this level of crazy over-reaction. Cap's the guy in charge in his own movies and the Avengers movies. He's calling the shots. Everyone in-universe listens to him and respects his opinion far more than that of any other character, Iron Man included. He pulled the rest of the team together in the first Avengers movie and led the team to victory. In subsequent movies, he is the voice of reason and the big damn hero and the purveyor of Marvel Symbolism to the audience. There's nothing wrong with any of these things, and in fact, it's how it should be. But irrational Steve stans will piss and moan and seethe over every Tony scene as if that somehow makes Steve's arc not exist anymore. It's sad.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Captain America: Civil war should have been Cap's movie. Instead, we had to spend half of it dealing with Tony being soooo guilty for shit HE did (and blaming it on others). And what happened at the end? Did Tony learn anything? As we see in Spiderman, nope! He is doing the same shit.

This. I can't stand how Tony NEVER FUCKING LEARNS HIS LESSON. And omg, HE has such a tragic past. Sur,e, he also has billions of fucking dollars to hire a therapist.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
+billions

And to make it worse, Tony never, ever learns.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT. But I can't agree with the premise that Cap is the MCU's golden boy. That's Tony Stark/RDJ all the way. Tony does whatever he wants and nothing bad happens to him, whereas Steve loses everything. That's actual canon. I have no interest in seeing Tony "punished", but neither do I have any interest in seeing the guy who lost everything get dragged even more.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I find it crazy that anyone would think Cap is MCU's golden boy. You'd have to now know anything about the movies to think that.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
lmao how is Steve the "winner who keeps on winning"? His life is nothing but endless suffering and loss.

"...the level of outrage generated by Steve stans over the implication that he may not have been 100% right in all his actions in CW could power a small continent."

^^^^This, right here.

I like your new rarepair! (: Or maybe an OT3 with Gamora?

The only thing he wasn't right about was not telling Tony that Bucky killed his parents. Which, he was under no obligation to do.

Tony came off so hypocritical and unreasonable in CW, I'm forever baffled people sided with him so overwhelmingly. Then again, I'm not surprised because, as stated above, Tony stans really are Loki Tier.

"I am guilty because some rando is mad I killed her son. Therefore we should ALL listen to this governing body who definitely won't be evil like the last 3 we worked for. Oh, I recrutied this teenager to fight in a battle without telling his guardian. Cuz I am so guilty about killing this teen."

"No, Tony, the United Nations is JUST LIKE black ops organizations paid for by the US government! So, instead of obeying the laws of foreign countries, I will swoop in and yank my boytoy away and cause horrible physical damage and property loss, for *I* am the law of the planet, and I participated in a black ops experiment paid for by the US government that gave me superpowers which mean I am judge and jury and I say he's not guilty of over a hundred murders! I do! I say it! Because I want it to be so! So screw justice for all the families and loved ones of the people murdered by my boytoy! Or the people he might accidentally murder in the next five seconds. My pain is the only pain."
