I agree. But I'm still glad the movies are being made anyway.

Uhhh. So this isn't good enough for you? https://www.justgofitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/RyanReynoldsBladeWorkout-1024x672.jpg

I think Reynolds are pretty perfect for the role, especially with his incredible comic timing which just IS Deadpool.

(For the rest of you who want more, just google Reynolds + Blade.)

Yeah, he is muscular. The difference between the comic and the real character is that he is wearing a 'practical' suit and not one that is sprayed on spandex.

Not bad, but he could've worked more on those arms and shoulders. :/

Not OP and I'll agree he's in great physical shape.

It's the classic broad-shouldered Superhero V that's missing in his frame. Compare him to Hugh Jackman or Chris Evans.

It's not wrong to say Reynolds' frame itself is narrower, which he can't really do anything about. He's built a lot onto it for the role, which is respectable.

Totally agree!

I guess I'm biased in the exact opposite way: overly muscular dudes kinda gross me out, so I'm always here for superheroes that aren't ridiculously bulky. Also I like Ryan Reynolds.

But to be fair, don't body types for all comic superheros vary wildly depending on which comic it is, when it's made & who's drawing it? With a couple exceptions, probably, but I don't think Deadpool's one of them.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
seconding this

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I really really find bulky dudes unattractive, too, so bless Reynolds' Deadpool.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-28 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Deadpool isn't meant to be super muscled like Captain America, nor a light gymnast build like Spider-Man. He's somewhere in the middle like, say, Daredevil.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's comic aesthetic relativism. He's drawn unrealistically huge and muscular because they all are, but he's coded as a fairly average superhero to my comic-reading eyes. Not as lean as Spidey, taller and not as burly as Wolverine. And well, there's the Hulk.

In that respect, and basically every other, timing and attitude-wise, RR reads as an accurate real world equivalent to me.

I just want to know what swarmy is supposed to mean. Unless it was a typoed smarmy.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thousands of insincere smiles getting everywhere, buzzing just barely noticeable in your bedroom, invading our beaches, lifting from the treetops at sundown and giving caves a soft layer of swarmy droppings.

I dunno, I like that he's not bodybuilder massive. To me it goes with his character more to be on the scrawny side (relatively speaking) for a superhero.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, could it be? Could male superheroes actually have unrealistic/unreasonable body types compared to real men as well? Say it ain't so!

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it's nice that we're being equal opportunity in our complaints that live action actors don't look muscular enough for the comics characters they play?

Depending on the artist, comics characters can be drawn with ridiculously unrealistic muscles (or boobs, etc.) so I tend not to consider it necessary to replicate comics musculature exactly. It's more a matter of "Does thus person appear to be ripped, or at least in very good physical shape, y/n?"

+1

I like both. I'd be more upset if movie Deadpool was played as super serious or too far on either end of the hero/villain spectrum. I don't think that's a very healthy looking body anyway. I think you'd have to do some real damage to your body with steroids and then dehydrate yourself like a prune before shooting so you could see the definition. I'd prefer that actors never have to do that for a role.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not like the overly muscled look on anyone. Also, comic book characters are, generally speaking, drawn in a way that is physically impossible to achieve in real life. Also, Ryan Reyonlds was put on this planet by a snarky, hilarious god specifically to play Deadpool.

Also, Josh Brolin as Cable is the sexiest Josh Brolin has ever been.

Liefeld drew him the way he drew most of his men, so pretty big and broad shouldered with made up musculature.. He's pretty small now by comparison. Ryan Reynolds is a kinda average build dude so I understand where you're coming from.

I felt that way about Cable.

Also, he's been pretty noodley in the past.

Reynolds is the best way to go. Sorry, but them's the breaks.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Almost all comic book characters are way beefier than their actor counterparts... at least depending on the artist since comics have so many different writers and artist.

I guess it's harder to find a suitable actor that is willing to go through the effort of bulking up that much.
