106: That anime is exactly like the worst kind of crappy shoujo. I'm a BL/yaoi/slash fan, but I can still tell when something is utter rubbish.

Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't also despise the notion that certain sets of behaviour should be reserved for one gender. I welcome more varied roles for male characters, and I cheer everytime someone dares to give a male character a characteristic that traditionally has been considered "feminine".

128: I agree. Every fandom has its pockets of insanity, but if insanity's all you've seen, I suspect you willfully refuse to look at the fandom as a whole.

147: Many things I loved as a child were, in fact, childish and silly. It didn't stop me loving them, and it doesn't stop me from feeling nostalgic or having a soft spot for them even now. Not everything has to be Great Art for us to enjoy them. Even some things I've come to enjoy later in life have been silly and/or childish. They're still enjoyable.

151: Part of enjoying a god story has always meant talking about it afterwards, imagining what happens later, and wondering about unclear things in the story itself. It's been like this since I was little - now I just have more people to do this together with!

166. When I was in grade school my cat who I was extremely close to (as in: he slept in my bed every night and nursed on my ear for security, even into adulthood) got out at night and disappeared. When I read those books I cried. I know he's a warrior now.

175. Well first of all, I think Azula's a far more complex character than you're making her out to be. Seriously psychologically messed up? Most certainly yes. An all out clinical sociopath? No. I could go on for quite a while on my interpretations of Azula's psyche (Ty Lee's too), but nobody wants to read that.

That said, do I think it was a particularly healthy relationship? Not at all. Do I think it was canon? HELL yes. Those two were fucking like bunnies.

Re: 163

(Anonymous) 2008-07-29 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's really not worth it. At this point, it's just sad that she still makes me so angry, even without talking to me. I have no idea why she has this effect on me, I've never held a grudge even remotely close to this before.

106

[identity profile] neocloud9.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Sukisho is one of my favorite series. The feminine art style obviously isn't for everyone, but it certainly didn't detract any enjoyment I received from watching it. The acting was very good and it has superb pacing for a rather short (13 episode) series. Why all the hate? ;~;

Re: 106

[identity profile] looking-spiffy.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
That's Sukisho?! Ahaha, whoops, I didn't even recognize it! It has been a while since I saw it, but...

I agree, it's actually one of my favourite yaoi series too. Partially because it gets the hell on with it (I can't stand a series that drags on for too long [lolz ironic icon alert]) and it's just really sweet. The gender of some of the characters never bothered me, though I did pretty much consider Nanami to be a girl throughout. That was clearly the image that Nanami himself wanted to portray.

I never post, but I just had to chime in.

Those books DID rock so much more than Harry Potter. They were great! I mean, Harry Potter is fun and all, and I totally liked the 1st three in the series (after the fourth... I think she ran out of steam or something. :/ ). I always thought of the Harry Potter series as like, a gateway book for kids. You read those and then you move on to better books. Although, I have a feeling my theory isn't embraced by many. :(

Re: 181

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Disclaimer: I really enjoyed all the Potter books except the second one, about which I remain convinced that I probably would have rather gotten Ginny's story, and maybe Draco's, than Harry's for that school year.

Having said this, very much yes. Referring to the Potter books as "the gateway drug for Discworld" is sort of standard in the groups I hang out with.

106: Sukisyo in anime form <<<< Sukisyo in game form. There are shirtless scenes of both "him"s in each. They're both guys and they're both voiced by guys. Sure, they're feminine, but they're the uke characters who are often perceived in such a way.

113: Don't be so hard on yourself! Your spelling and grammar seem alright, and you seem to be over 13. "lol hi i am a 13 yr old gurl nise to meat u!!!1won!" annoys people 50 times more than your habits. Don't worry! Besides, I'm sure you'll gain more maturity a you grow older.

131: Agreed. I loved Shirley from the beginning.

143: THANK YOU. Sane Saimoe voters. ;//; Better yet, you're using a Japanese board.

170: I've done this with a series, and I don't blame you AT ALL. You seem like a very sweet, compassionate person. "I just want to see him smile again"; I wish more of fandom would be like this.

171: I don't mean to offend you, but I laughed for a good 20 minutes over this. My father is a high-ranked employee for BOTH companies (despite running his own business and doing other mortgage work as well), and.... just thinking of the idea makes me giggle. The two companies are so closely affiliated that I honestly couldn't see them as anything more than brother and sister (using your "personified" terms).

180: Me too, me too! I'm fluent in Japanese, yet I adore the majority of dubbed anime. *aspiring voice actress, what*

183: I love your outlook on this. I truly do.
