Something almost identical to this happened in Indiana 25+ years ago. The sole survivor, a girl of maybe 2, was found wandering around with her family's bodies in the house. :( I don't know whatever happened to her other than that she had family elsewhere she went to live with. I kind of hope nobody ever told her exactly how her family died.

In the case of Harley and Ivy, it's not a matter of Hollywood hating female comic book characters so much as it is the fact that a) Ivy's been done before (and horribly - sorry, Uma) and b) Harley is not a strong enough character to hang on her own. TBQH, Harley isn't the first female character I think of when I think 'feminist'.
