It was dark, damp, and lonely in the asylum, and the cries of the inmates wore on his nerves - the screams of the new arrivals, the hysterics generated by the experimental treatments doctors liked to use his house for, and the eternal keening the mad girls kept up. In the pie shop, there was warmth, conviviality, and Mrs Lovett.

He had started to come here on the recommendation of the men who fetched in his patients; they had raved about the pies. He came back because of the pie-maker.

She had the most exquisite hair, unlike anything he had seen on his wards. The sort of hair that artists dreamed about. Russet corkscrew curls, shining with health and prosperity now, tumbling over each other in a careless arrangement that wasn't quite ladylike, that invited a man to take out the hairpins one by one until that marvellous hair was completely exposed, loose and au naturel, to his hands and to his gaze. He liked to keep her talking.

"The ward of a judge? Ridiculous what those lunatics think!" Her eyes tracked upwards for a moment, to the upper floor of her shop, and then back to him. She smiled, fascinating. "I suppose her friends don't want her back? She's with you for life?"

"I suppose so, Mrs Lovett. My poor charges are too much for their friends in their sad afflictions. I keep them safe from the outside world."

Perhaps he might bring her in. He detected a certain instability in her that would suffice as a reason. Indeed, such a thing always manifested itself eventually in his patients, no matter how virulently they protested their sanity on first being brought to the asylum.

"Is the barber still at work at this hour?" he inquired of her, unwilling to leave the vicinity of the charming Mrs Lovett just yet and feeling that he may as well use his time away from the asylum efficiently.

"Mr Todd - oh, no, I shouldn't think so. You go back to your asylum and watch over those poor girls. Make sure no one comes to take them away." She winked at him and re-entered her shop.

If he could bring her in, he would keep her and that unique hair in a cell alone. All the better to watch over her.

When she sees him coming, she reaches for the carving knife. Presumptuous creature, not seeing where he isn't wanted - just wait until she tells her Mr Todd. He'll want to protect her, he will.

At least Mr Fogg had told her where Johanna was. An asylum was probably the best place for her (like mother, like daughter) and now she could trouble her father no more. All traces of that unfortunate first marriage erased, clearing the way for another. How gratifying.

"Hey, hey. Gotta smoke?"

Soubi takes a deep, sweet drag of his cigarette, holds it in his throat, then slowly blows the smoke again. Ritsuka's classes should be done soon, he thinks.

"Awwww, c'mon! Don't be a prick, man! If you have one, be a good person, do your good deed of the day and shaaare!"

Soubi doesn't even bother glancing at the man. He does consider, though, throwing the half done cigarette to the ground and grinding it with his heel. It would do nothing, he knows, but at least there'd be the satisfaction of the annoying person that keeps begging shutting up in despair.

Somehow, he doesn't think Ritsuka would agree with that, but Ritsuka isn't here yet, so the petty, vicious thought rolls around in Soubi's brain for a few moments, even as he takes another deep drag, then blows it over the redhead's face.

The patch makes Soubi think of Natsuo, and he really hopes that Natsuo won't grow to be like this idiot, with his begging eye and barely supresed shakin, dying for his nicotine fix. Soubi makes the mental note that if he ever, ever needs a cigarette that much, he'll have Kio kick him or something.

"If I give you a smoke," Soubi drawls, rising an eyebrow. "Will you shut up?"

"Yes! Totally shut up! I swear!"

Soubi sighs, decides against muttering something and just digs out his cigarettes, offering one to the redhead, who just beams and looks as if he had given him a diamond. It's idiotic, really, how happy the simple minded get with stuff like this.

But at least, there is silence, and now he won't have to hear the idiot beg for more cigarettes once he lights his cigarette.

"Hey, man. Gotta light? Mine's gone out of fluid."

... perhaps he talked too soon.

He hadn't bothered to knock, naturally. Boys were rude like that, Fir had discovered during her time in this army, and Rutger was no exception.

"So you only want to talk to me if I'm naked?" she snapped.

"Then lock the door," he said.

"It's a tent, it doesn't have a lock. Could you at least wait until I'm dressed if you want to talk to me?" she said, becoming unnerved by the way he was looking at her.

"You have a nice body."

And her anger and inhibitions fell to the wayside. She didn't know why, but she decided right then and there she had to have him.

"I want to see yours," she said.

"What?"

"You heard me. You saw me naked, I think it's only fair I get to see you."

"You're crazy."

"Either take off your clothes or I'll undress you myself," she threatened. Quick as a flash, his clothes were on the floor next to hers.

"Happy now?" Rutger asked. This was humiliating, he thought, if he'd known she'd pull something like this he wouldn't have bothered...it was her fault, after all, she'd insisted on talking to him in the first place.

But damn if he wasn't enjoying this just a little.

"Very nice," she finally said.

"So now what?"

It was hard to tell who made the first move, but suddenly they were in a tangle of arms and legs on the floor. She kissed him with her tongue, hard and aggressive; he yanked the tie from her hair and let it fall loose around her shoulders.

Breaking from the kiss, Rutger licked her neck and grasped a breast in his hand. Not too big, but certainly a good handful, he thought as he squeezed the nipple between his thumb and forefinger. His other hand dove between her legs and plunged a finger into her.

"Kinda warm down there," he muttered against her neck. Fir growled, he was getting the upper hand and she couldn't have that. She pushed his hand away and flipped them over.

"Want to cool me off?" she teased. He grabbed her hips and brought her down on his cock.

They moved at a frenzied pace, trying to see who could bring the other to a peak first. It was a close race, but his endurance was slightly higher than hers in the end. She collapsed atop him, exhausted, as he finally spent himself.

"What...what just happened? Does this mean we're..." Fir awkwardly pulled herself off of him and gathered her clothes.

"I don't know." Rutger flicked his bangs away from his face and pulled his pants on. "You'd better get cleaned up," he said. It was a one-time fling, an accident. Nothing more.

They went to the river to bathe, not together but side by side. This time, neither of them cast even a single sideways glance at the other.

I've been making sculptures lately, and I'd be interested in making custom ones to sell. Two different levels of complexity/expense. None of them have 'proper faces' it's more the suggestion of them that I like. They're kind of cartoony as well. Photos can be provided.
