Petty thief, sure that's the story. It weren't always like that. I was a wee nipper. That's what we all are once anyway. All I had in this world was me dear ol' mum and anything she gave me.

When her gents came around, I'd just mind me business. Then one day I knocked a vase down and there was a big to do. "Lookit what 'e's gone and done!" And they were all looking at me. So I told myself I was gonna learn to be quite as a mouse. Quiter than that even. I slinked my way this way and that. I could get into all sorts of places.

Mum'd come lookin' for me. She was a pretty thing. I get all my good looks from her. Stop your laughing. I mean it. You can't see it though. Of course you can't see it. She had herself a good face. Lovely pair a blue eyes you don't see that in the sky with the smoke. All the gents and johns loved her. Not as much as me.

I was her main man. That's what she told em all. Me an' no one else. Til one day. She disappeared. Vanished. I tried to make a fuss about her being gone. No one would take notice. She was just another gal lost in the streets and lifting her skirts. Who would care?

She vanished. So did I. Even if I found her again, she'd not see me.
