So I was hear yesterday because I was feeling low and wanted, well you know. It was contentious.

So I thought I'd try somthing a little soft-ball today. Somthing fun and flighty which can't possibly be controver... You already know where I'm going with this don't you. Ok screw it.

What are you'll opinions about the Sargon/Patreon and Sargon/Subscribe star situations?

Well, let me start by saying that I used to be a huge fan of Sargon, so that will separate me from like... basically everyone here LOL. I'm not very knowledgeable about Gamergate (don't even play games), just came by Sargon via my disillusionment with the direction the left has been taking over the past 5-6 years. I loved "This Week in Stupid" and was comforted to know there was another liberal out there who felt similarly because I feel very alone most of the time in my political opinions, especially in fandom spaces.

All that said, I followed Sargon on Twitter and listened to some of his debates, and the shine gradually wore off as I realized what an egomaniacal dumbass he was. Like, he's just fucking dumb. He gets emotional and says and does really stupid things and then suffers the consequences, which is exactly why he got kicked off both Twitter and Patreon.

And all THAT said... I still think there's a troubling issue here with all of our major social media platforms being owned by corporations with willy-nilly terms of service, who can just randomly decide to pull the plug because of something someone didn't even do on their platform. Just because. Alex Jones is a nutjob, but I don't even agree with his unpersoning. It's upsetting to me that these platforms have so much power over who gets a voice and often use it in political or virtue-signalling sorts of ways. Of course they have every right to do that. They are private entities beholden to no one but their shareholders. But I am hoping that Sargon's banning from Patreon creates enough serious discussion and backlash from popular content creators that smaller independent platforms begin to come forward and become more viable.

And then, of course, the cycle will continue....

I don't really know Sargon. Was he the one who organised the harassment of Anita Sarkeesian? If so, then, yeah, he has a history of acting like garbage.

I don't like seeing Patreon boot people, even if I think they're obnoxious.

But it depends on what exactly he was doing on there.

Hey man, it's good to see you around! Holy shit, that anon yesterday... what a piece of shit.

I've been too busy lately to really pay attention to the Sargon thing, but in general my feelings about this sort of stuff are mixed.

In general, I think free speech is really fucking important, ESPECIALLY for political speech. The some rights and cultural values that protect assholes like Sargon also protect queer people, racial minorities, etc. If you try to ban one kind of controversial speech, a lot of other kinds get caught in the crosshairs. If you ban far-right speech bc they often call for violence or say racist shit, the far-left latestagecapitalism types also wind up banned. And that might sound okay, except when the Patreon executives decide that The Gay Menace is a problem and kick them off, too, or whatever.

The recent tumblr fiasco is a good example. They banned porn, fine, great, Christian values, amiright? And ostensibly they were NOT going to ban "non-sexual" nudity. So all those clinical pictures of trans people pre- and post-op were fine. Pictures of feminists protesting with their tits out were fine. Pictures of pride events were fine. Body positivity fine art was fine. Etc. EXCEPT those things got deleted, too, and now a major resource for the queer community is gone, bc someone decided that porn=bad and nudity=porn.

But on the other hand, Patreon is a company that's providing a service. Sargon is a customer. And I think any business should have a right to boot customers from their establishment when they're being disruptive. If we treat the internet like irl, then it's fine for Patreon to say "we don't want Nazi demonstrations in our coffee shop."

Watched a few episodes and dropped it because it wasn't holding my interest. It wasn't that bad though, if I had more free time I might have stuck with it. Tbh I feel a bit bad for the show, the controversy over episode 1 made it the poster child show for every dudebro 'lol safe space PC SJWs who can't handle real life' edgelord and the show really didn't deserve that at all (heck, outside of the first episode it's not even all that dark and brutal, Berserk it ain't).

Currently watching No. 6, My Hero Academia, Spiritpact, Gintama, restarting Naruto since I can't remember where I left off..., Persona 5, Black Clover, Ancient Magus' Bride, and Double Decker! Doug & Krill thanks to a secret on here.

Anyone got anything else I should be watching? I'd prefer something that isn't 800 episodes long, but if it's ~amazing~ I will take it into consideration.

I've watched every episode of Halloween Wars MULTIPLE TIMES and I could tell you whether you'd be the team cake decorator, sugar artist or pumpkin carved based on your personality. High maintenance, type A, controlling perfectionist with a sarcastic snippy side but also highly intelligent? Sugar artist. Macho, proud "tough guy" (or if a girl, proud to not be "like other girls") has tattoos, has the scariest decorations at hone, proud and loves power tools? Pumpkin carver. Shy middle aged mom shaped like an aunt who us a peace maker and people pleaser, likely Huffflepuff? Cake artist.

Did anyone bake anything good for the holidays?

Nothing fancy, but I baked some cupcakes, using a new frosting recipe that was supposed to be the same as one of the frostings from the cupcake shop Sprinkles. They turned out delicious. :)
