111. Because he suddenly aged fourty years over the course of much less than that? Because he is very longwinded? He has a weird relationship to this adorable nerdy guy? TELL US MORE I BEG OF YOU.

117. What is that show and why does the big guy looks so awesome?

141. What is the music in question?

147. While I disagree about hottest vampire ever, (Slayer holds that title now and forevermore), I must admit that Demitri has style and one HELL of a useful move. The world needs more canon genderbending, I say! It needs more Demitri! If he's in the Tatsunoko game, I will just about wet mysef with glee over the thought of a female Light Goldan.

168. Che Guevara and who? Also, what show?

175. When Ozymandias DID pull his plan off, he decided that he all along HAD wanted to be a very flamboyant villain with hips that could not unsway...

... Yeah okay, I can't say I see it.

188. I should not have found that epic.

But I did. I so did.

111. Man, I wish I had an Uncle Dave.

118. ...nope, not seeing it.

120. No, you really really don't. That is like textbook fucked-up relationship, as much as I love Harley.

134. OMG Growing Up Cullen secret. Yes!

136. Waspinator's "I make my stand here" moment was almost as awesome as Dinobots. And, unlike Dinobot, he got to live to the end of the show because of it.

163. ...I love Ivy and all but DO NOT WANT.

I'm so glad somebody else feels that way. It just seems so lame to be emotionally invested in the still-played-for-laughs scene for the buttmonkey of the show. Also, I like you calling it his "I make my stand here" moment. I think I'll use that.

Waspinator happy...at last.

178. THIS. Oh Harvey, I'd believe in you any day. ♥

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Yeah. That happened with me and my roommates. Only, when I ship things, it's usually nonsexual, so they weren't too worried.

105. FTW!!!!
Bones will always be myh first doctor, even if Eccleston is my first Doctor.

108. Truthiness. I'm not really falling over myself to get tickets to Hamlet, because honestly, I love him, but, eh.

109. Mm. Honestly, the number one reason I almost automatically skip fics written like that is because they're usually written by people who simply don't know how to write. Yeah, yeah, stylistic choices, but you have to know the rules to break 'em, as they say with just about any art form.
Not saying it's all like that. I've read good present tense fic. But nine times out of ten, it's in present tense because the thirteen-year-old who didn't pass English doesn't realise that it's incredibly tricky to do without just sounding stupid. No quotation marks? Look, unless it's a introspective piece, there is no excuse. If you omit quotation marks without having a darned good reason, then no. Simply no. You fail. Those serve an important purpose and if you're writing a regular fic and leaving them out, then I can only assume that you're too lazy or too ignorant to remember that hey, those things clarify our language.

Actually, that's the root of it all. I will put up with wildly drastic stylistic choices, but there had better be a darned good reason for it. I'm of the school of believe that everything you put into your art (or writing) really should be a deliberate choice. So even for using standard-style, yes, there should be a good reason for it.

And nine times out of ten, this is not the case. Creative writing =/= throwing poo at a wall and not having your creative instincts squashed.

116. Ach man, yeah.

120. That's...really really disturbing.

121. ^_^ Iiiii think I know who this is. ^_^
Also, I saw that in the library. Gonna try and pick it up tomorrow.

135. Oddly enough, I kind of agree. I thought Olive and Alfredo were just so darn cute and tragic and sweet.

136. Awww...Waspinator. I love him to bits. To little, tinny scrapped bits no doubt scattered all over prehistoric Earth.
Heh. The infamous Scott McNeil "NOOOOOOO!"

137. DUDE THERRIAULT! Canada's contribution to sexiness. Right after GBS, of course.

138. Word. I've already decided, if I ever have a kid, his name is so going to be Gideon.

146. Are you me? I though I was seriously the only one. I was really upset when they got together. I like Kim. I like Ron. But it just seemed so...unnecessary. Why can't two people who have been bestest best friends since kindergarten just be fantastically good friends? And I was always kinda sad that nothing played out with the cutie who had a crush on him in the early seasons.
But I won't say the finale didn't make me all cuddley inside.

152. Lol, I think that's my favourite secret-image ever.

136. That scene with Duo makes me laugh so hard, I have no idea why, and then the next scene where Trowa cries for destroying Deathscythe makes me laugh even harder. I mean I love the show but it just cracks me up.

162. I keep forgetting what Vic looks like, every secret that uses a picture of him I go like "Who the hell is that" and then I read the comments and I am like "oh".

171. Word. I actually don't like Supernatural at all, but I adored So Weird, it began to suck though when they replaced Fi.

151: I saw this recently. It's not actually that bad and it actually made sense. 8D Though, I'm still confused why Flounder's the cute coward that he is but you know. It explains what happened to her mom, Triton's hatred of humans, and what happened before the original movie started. The only thing I'm disappointed was lack of Urchin. 8(

115. I LOVE present tense fic. My bias about 2nd person comes from the fact it tends to come from Mary Sue fics, but I've read amazing ones.
Simply put, this secret is truth.

121. I absolutely love this series. ♥ I relate to Gemma and I relate to Ann (Ann moreso, which is why I dislike her more, ahahahah :/ ) and...Oh, it's just such amazingly delicious YA. I love it.
Being a Christian is awesome, man, but you shouldn't feel guilty for finding more pleasure and empathy in a novel than the Bible. :'( ♥

125. Beautiful secret :)

132. Using Japanese in a fanfic is usually the most awesome indication of people who know no Japanese but like to think they do. I used to do it *shame*.
It looks really obnoxious, but keep in mind most of the people doing it are like 12 or 13 and don't know any better :(

146. I couldn't watch it anymore after they got together.
I have a lot of amazing, awesome male friends. It was so cool seeing a show that showed a really great male/female friendship with no sexual tension.
And then they fucked it up.
And then they compounded their fuckup by caving to the Drakken/Shego shippers.
Ron/Yori was hotter anyway. And I kinda liked Kim/Felix.
Woah, old fandom wat.

162. I dig his VA-ing and can't stand him. :/ I think he'll make a great Tamaki, though I'd really like to give him a punch in the face.

120. ...are you serious?! The Joker treats Harley like shit! Unless you're into that, then I say good luck to you! (Awesome fanart, btw.)

125. I haven't even seen the movie but I still think that's pretty darn cool. :D

141. Which music would this be? I'm a big fan of Animal Farm and I'm quite curious.

169. IAWTS in the case of the Elrics, at least.

173. Oh man, do I agree with this secret. 8DDDDD Ozai is such a DILF! And shirtless, bondage!Ozai was the only part that made it worth watching the best part of the finale. <3

From the Sailor Moon R Movie, right towards the middle, while Sailor Moon is being tortured and all the other girls are thinking about how lonely their lives were before Sailor Moon showed up in them.

132

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ach, yes! It's INSANE! I went and tried to read some Slayer's fic for old times' sake, and it hurt so bad, the randomly interspersed Japanese words where English ones would've done just as well.

Even worse is when anyone, in any fic, ever ever ever, "sweatdrops" or "facefaults." No. Just. No.

Re: 132

[identity profile] chatiel.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)

115. Actually, no, you're the one "doin it rong." There are standards in writing. There are such things as rules of grammar and punctuation. Moreover, there's good writing and there's bad writing. And, from your secret, it sounds as though you prefer the bad sort of writing.

Actually, it just sounds like you've had your stories corrected too often. They must have needed it. You're just claiming "omg artistic expression" out of butthurt♥

Re: 115

(Anonymous) 2008-08-30 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess you missed my point. I'm saying that those standards can be relaxed to accomplish stylistic goals, or to further the feel of a story. And I find it a little judgmental of you to say that I prefer bad writing, when you can't truthfully claim to know anything about the fic I read. I'd prefer people to actually try out different writing instead of avoiding it without reason and proclaiming it "bad" without even reading it themselves.

And, by the way, assumptions aren't everything. I don't write myself, I just appreciate those who do - all of them, "correct" punctuation or no.
