116. Curse my inability to read DW as anything other than Deadman Wonderland. Aaah, obession.

133. That is... the most amazing comparison I've ever seen drawn.8D

115 - Well. They did really sexualize him and Wendy in that movie. (I was a little disturbed by how attractive he was too.)

120 - The Harry Potter books aren't perfect, but they are above average. I mean, they're overrated. But they're not bad.

129 - ...Marster's Thesis. That's cute.

143 - I stopped reading FBoFW years ago. I think it got overly sentimental. (But I'm glad it got a happy ending.)

149 - That's a pretty awesome internal monologue voice! It's funny you have one for her, when Medium doesn't have voiceovers.

153 - I should have that mantra.

168 - Hee! I have trouble not relating the two together as well.

173 - That's a fitting name.

176. (a) I wish I could say people wouldn't judge you, but someone probably will. Be honest with your friends anyway. It's still worth it. (b) That picture is friggin' adorable.

176- Damn, I feel you there. But ironically I met my current long term gf through fandom/mutual friend 2 years ago, so its not like there aren't ~*~real*~*~ lesbians in fandom. But I agree with you on the negative stereotype of cosplay girls making out etc, etc.

BASICALLY

FUCK THAT SHIT AND BE YOURSELF (especially if you have supportive friends)

Ironic my mom is catholic as hell too...

176

[identity profile] puritybrown.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
176: Speaking as a real lesbian who happens to be into fandom: You are making excuses for yourself because you don't want to come out, and you don't want to admit that you've lied.

It is totally understandable that you've lied, because society isn't that accepting of real lesbians (as opposed to fake airbrushed doing-it-to-turn-my-boyfriend-on pr0n lesbians, and can I just say FUCK KATY PERRY?). I lied, too, before I came out. And it was deathly embarrassing to admit to it. To say: "I was lying. I was making it up. I didn't want to admit the truth, so I pretended."

But here's the thing... The "fandom lesbians" are not what's stopping you. Maybe there's a possibility that their existence will make people doubt you, but what's really going to make people doubt you is your own behaviour. If you are honest from now on, you will give people reasons to believe that you really are what you say you are, and that your previous behaviour was a front. The more you lie, the harder it becomes to tell the truth.

When you do come out, trust me, all of your doubts and fears will seem so stupid and ridiculous in retrospect that you'll say to yourself "what was stopping me?" If your friends are as supportive as you say, they'll believe you and they won't do anything to hurt you.

I hope you find it in you to come out, because it will make your life enormously better. Seriously, it's like taking off a corset. You'll be able to breathe again.

137. ... And now I'm fucked *face-palm* Five years of loving that show, and everything's all twisted.

Re: 145

[identity profile] bodyline.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, you misunderstand. I know that it's a word play, but I think the reason that the English fandom uses it is based solely on the fact that Al's name in Japanese is spoken as Aru. Before you told me about that, I never knew it was a play on words, and I'm not sure a lot of fans would off-handedly know that either.

It's "Next Avengers," the latest straight-to-DVD movie from Marvel. In a nutshell, thirteen years before the story started, the Avengers were mostly wiped out by an AI called Ultron. Now their kids, who have grown up under the care of Tony Stark/Ironman, have to go up against Ultron themselves.

The concept sounds like an AU fanfiction. But it's just so *good*! ^_^ Even if the end of the last battle is something of a dues ex machina.

I know! Every time one of his comics shows up in my DA inbox I get all ":D" and wait for it to load. His stuff's amazingly fun on both a storytelling and artistic level and I'd kill to actually own a book of his. Ever After or Ree.

128. OMFG agreed. He MAKES that movie. And that movie, as a result, is LOVE.

Re: 145

[personal profile] lavaliere 2008-09-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm saying: Most of the people who use it do so without knowledge of the play on words. It's annoying to no end, and even as someone who knows next to nothing about the Japanese language aside fangirlish crap, it bothers me that people don't take the time to learn more about the background behind a character's name. That's exactly why I don't use it, in hopes that people get the idea that it should AL and not ARU. :\

165 OP

[identity profile] virescens.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I would too, baby, and drool over it for a month.

108. I hate it because the pilot bored me to tears. Considering how shock full of science fiction stuff it was, with crazy scientists, double agents, mysterious diseases, conspiracy theories, shady organizations, mind-travel/telepathy/whatever, and ROBOT LIMBS... it should have felt crammed and full, but it still managed to feel empty and too long.

That's sort of an achievement, too.

...whose to say he hasn't slept with both of them? And if it's a co-star he's definitely had, it's Georgia. Seeing as they are, you know. Officially a couple, etc.
