I hate Luther because he doesn't know how stupid he is.

He thinks he's some great hero for the ages, but he's just an idiot born with super powers who completely bought into the false sense of superiority his daddy gave him. He would be somewhat less irritating if he learned from his dumbass mistakes, but the moron keeps doubling down on making even bigger, dumber mistakes. And then there's how Luther heaped all of his daddy's sins on Pogo, plus locking Vanya in cell without a bed or a toilet, and he more than earns every drop of haterade fandom pours on him.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Pogo is more responsible for how Vanya turned out than Luther. Like...90% more responsible.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Pogo was more responsible but Luther was the one to lock Vanya up again and refuse to listen to all his siblings.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but that was one (very bad) decision based on the evidence he had that Vanya was capable of serious bodily harm. That was not a lifetime of brainwash and lies. I feel it's unfair to compare them equally.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't one decision, though. It was the decision to lock her up in the first place (which is 100% understandable, given the limited info he had), then the decision to overrule everyone else (including Allison, who actually had the full information), then overrule Allison AGAIN at the theater, then suggest leaving Vanya behind when Five had his escape plan.

However, you're right--the biggest asshole here is 100% Reginald and we all need to remember that.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This, this, this. Including the last part.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Locking her up may have been understandable if Luther gave it more than a minute's worth of thought. Instead, he did the most inhumane thing possible on impulse because he was mad his least favorite sister almost killed the sister he wanted to fuck. So he locked Vanya in a room with no bed, no restroom, and had no realistic way of feeding her without opening the cell door and allowing the bloodthirsty killer an instant get out of jail free card.

Luther. Is. A. Fucking. Moron!

Luther was taught that kind of behavior from his abusive father. Pogo helped Reginald abuse the kids.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Slaves don't help. Slaves obey.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
More responsible for being an accomplice through the years, sure, but the straw that broke her back, so to speak, was Luther.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care what Pogo knew or what Pogo helped his owner do, he was a slave, and slaves shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of their masters. At most the only thing Pogo might--MIGHT--be blamed for is his silence after Reggie's death.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. He definitely should have said something once Reginald was dead, but it was pretty clear that he wasn't allowed to while Reggie was alive, same as Grace.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Even Grace fought against her robot design (or whatever it's called, idk) to try and tell the truth to Diego. Pogo could've said something earlier.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He carried on those lies after Reginald died. Including forcing other people to carry them on. So, he isn't as bad as Reginald but he isn't a good guy.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't see it that way at all. I don't think Luther thinks he's a genius or that he's superior to his siblings at all. I think that as a kid, he drank the Kool-Aid that Hargreeves was trying to serve to all the kids. He believes it's his role and duty to be the leader, and the tragedy is that he sacrificed his childhood (and a good part of his adulthood) and autonomy to try and fill that role, even though he wasn't very good at it. He tries and fails. His siblings see how flawed the whole UA academy plan was, but Luther doesn't. He's not stupid. But he's definitely a product of his upbringing, just like his siblings are. His role is to show you that good intentions don't always yield good end results.

In modern psychological terms, he'd be the "Golden Child" of the family while Vanya is the Scapegoat, both victims in different ways of a narcissistic parent.

THIS

The whole family is practically textbook

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only hear 'FATHER SENT ME TO THE MOON FOR A REASON' so many times before it get really fucking annoying.
(not to mention his ignorance to Klaus, constant belittlement of Diego, and his willingness to kill Grace)

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
This. His father sent him to the moon AS AN GROWN UP ADULT.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Isolation/Solitary Confinement is a literal torture technique that is against the Geneva Convention.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Klaus was put in solitary confinement in a mausoleum as a young child for hours at a time.

Vanya was put in an isolation chamber for weeks if not months as a very young child and again as an adult without knowing if she would stay there for the rest of her life.

But sure Luther's trip to the moon as a grown up adult is the only thing Reginald did that's against the Geneva Convention.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Did I say that was the only thing? No. YOU said that Luther was sent to the moon as an adult, so it wasn't so bad. You are the one dismissing torture because it happened towards someone you don't like.

"But sure Luther's trip to the moon as a grown up adult is the only thing Reginald did that's against the Geneva Convention."

Nobody here has even implied that, though. This is a rather flimsy straw man. People pointing out that Luther was treated badly isn't an argument that nobody else was. It's not either/or.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
So is literally everything else that Reginald did to all of them, what's your point.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-30 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That assholes should stop dismissing the abuse that was done towards him because he was mean to your favorite depressed, white girl woobie.

They were all abused. Luther was suffering from very recent torture. He was acting the way his abuser taught him to.
