Disregarding for a moment that I personally didn't find Joshua unlikable, he's also not nearly as obnoxiously a Jesus clone as Asian. Definitely more like "vaguely inspired by" than "Look, it's literally Jesus but as a LION".

(Anonymous) 2019-04-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Narnia in a nutshell: Jesus Christ is a lion get in the wardrobe.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus: OMG you GUYS!

Apostles: No.

Jesus: Guys! THIS

Apostles: NO.

Jesus: This is my fursona, DO NOT STEAL!

Judas: >:(

> not nearly as obnoxiously a Jesus clone as Asian

i laughed

I mean Joshua is arguably Asian... I think? Kinda? Also admittedly a tad obnoxious. So my autocorrect isn't all that wrong.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...maybe I just haven't read the books in a while, but what does Aslan do that's so bad? Besides literally being Jesus.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I mean Jesus was so annoying they hung him on the cross

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I recall in the last book, he didn't save any of the animals that hadn't been on his side, or something. That just seemed mean. Kinda like real Christianity I guess.

Also he scraped that one princess's back with his claws so she'd feel pain, for some reason.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, the Last Battle was a mess overall.

Oh, yeah, Horse and His Boy? I don't think that was just for the sake of pain, I think it was something to do with her having whipped a horse? Maybe? It was definitely not out of malice, iirc.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
He scratched Aravis's back because she let her friend take the fall for her (and Shasta's?) escape from Calormen and didn't feel guilty about it the thought of her friend being whipped because of her.

I didn't care for the Teaching Moment™ either.

Love Joshua, but man this secret made me laugh.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I think I want to re-read the Last Battle I remember how friggin' depressing the storyline and ending are.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I just don't reread Last Battle, pfft.

I know I've said this here before but it drives me nuts that a writer as devout and imaginative as C.S. Lewis couldn't think up a better heaven than "everybody does nothing but run and eat fruit". that's not heaven. that's a cheap ass weight loss spa.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
My budding atheist third grade self was very angry to find out that Aslan=Furry Jesus, but I remember thinking going higher into heaven every moment and stuffing their faces with fruit seemed like a super obvious, anti-Adam and Eve punished by expulsion from Eden for eating fruit, er, reversal, or something.

My official religious education consisted of one morning tagging along to Sunday school with some neighbor kids at the age of five or so, where I was told I would roast in Hell (“what’s Hell?”) for not believing in Jesus (“who’s Jesus?”), and came home crying hysterically about being on fire forever. I never went back, and my parents never pressured me to, but I’ve taken a few religion classes since then out of (often morbid) curiosity. So my interpretation’s probably a load of hooey.

Few things inspire more contempt for Christian theology for me than C.S. Lewis's "Divorce" which is all over the Narnia novels.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
SA: Ok, the weak-ass "faith in faith" and straw-atheism that bookend Life of Pi. I have marginally more contempt for that.

IDK that sounds like heaven to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-02 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
I mean I assumed that was just the "further up and further in" bit and there was plenty to do once they made it to the actual gates/met Reepicheep

For few seconds I had no idea what was going on and thought this was a troll secret.

OP, don't read "Left Behind." Not only is the theology incredibly bad, it's unbelievably badly written. I'd rather read the phone book.

It's clearly been too long since I played TWEWY, because I cannot recall Joshua being a blatant Christ allegory.

He was also my favourite character, which going by everyone else, is doing it wrong.

There have been quite a few people saying he is a blatant Jesus allegory but honestly, I don't really see it either. Yeah, sure, the name and there are some religious themes to some of his attacks, plus the faux-sacrifice he pulls. But blatant, totally obvious "THIS CHARACTER IS JESUS" allegory? Eh.

And yeah, I'll be joining you in the "doing it wrong" corner. He's my fave from the game as well.
