What's something that's happened to you that sounds like it's fiction?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-07 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Or anything sufficiently weird but true will work.

I got trapped in an elevator once and it was stuck between floors for 30 minutes before dropping five floors and opening like normal.

I got locked in the bathroom at my friend’s house. I dunno what I did, but I couldn’t unlock it and my friend had to remove the doorknob.

You know how elevator doors are supposed to open automatically to prevent people losing body parts to them? I once ran to catch an elevator and instead of opening up again it closed on my fingertips. I didn’t lose any fingers, but they were purple and swollen and a couple had skin ripped off and bled everywhere.

Ugh, I know that feeling all too well. There's nothing like having a door close on your hand.

I have an elevator story but it's more dumb than weird. So, like, elevators in casinos seem to come in two flavors; either they're well ventilated and modern looking or they smell like piss and cigarettes, all the more complimented by terrible 80's style interior. The elevator in this story belongs to the second group. So I head towards this casino elevator, the door opens, and there's a guy sitting on a chair inside. He just smirks at me and gives me a thumbsup - he's clearly drunk or stoned - and I nod, because what else am I supposed to do... and we go up. I exit when we reach my room's floor and there's another guest waiting outside the elevator who then takes my place - and the guy in the elevator gives a thumbsdown.... and the guest nods just like I did. They ride together down a couple floors in the elevator. The end.

Same anon—and then, after yanking my hand free and leaving behind skin and a lot of swearing, I ran across campus to the clinic to make sure I hadn’t broken anything and because they had hot water in their bathroom so I could get my hand clean; most all the other bathrooms just had cold water sinks. Since I didn’t have an appointment and wasn’t actually dying, I had to wait to be seen while my hand swelled up. Then they had to weigh me and take my temperature and blood pressure while I tried not to scream that ffs I was oozing blood and could I please have some ice? “Your blood pressure’s kind of high; have you thought about losing weight?”

I didn’t bludgeon anyone to death with an office chair, even though I really wanted to. At least I hadn’t broken any fingers.

I've told this one before, but my mother running away to another country with my sister leaving my dad in debt, finding out she'd created a bunch of fake identities online to lure men, finding out she'd been planning it all for a long-ass time and had done it to previous husbands, and then never hearing from her again. She was weird.

A) That is ROUGH. I am sorry.

B) That is BANANAS. I am fascinated. Seems like nobody buys anybody free drinks anymore, but if they did, I feel like this would be a free-drinks-for-life level story.

I'm so sorry, that's crazy. Did you ever hear from your sister again?

Numerous times? The hell's going on that you're constantly getting hit by cars?

a former friend of mine started a huge argument with me on the street before we ended our association permanently. that's not so fictional-sounding in and of itself but the entire time it was going on someone's car stereo was playing "This Will Be The Last Time" by the Rolling Stones.

My dad dove through an acquaintance’s front window while carrying an illegally modified assault rifle loaded with armor piercing rounds. Luckily he didn’t actually hurt anyone (he was schizophrenic.)

My roommate got arrested for dealing drugs on the front lawn.

One time when I was thirteen(ish?), I was out with my aunt and my baby cousin. We got back to my aunt's house and she couldn't find her keys, thought she had lost them somewhere.

Luckily they lived in a bungalow, but for some reason all the screens over the windows had been nailed over (luckily there was never a fire before this...).

I've always been a bit of a MacGyver so I found the bbq cleaner, used the metal scraper end to pry back the nails off one screen, pull it out, open the window and heave myself out.

Then I am dangling half in the window, managed to grab my cousin's crib and pull it towards me so I could tumble into it.

Let my aunt in through the front door.

She found the keys at the bottom of her purse... -___-;

My best friend and I joke that we share a brain. When she found out she was pregnant she came over to tell me in person and when she said she had news I said "I know, you're pregnant. We did this already." Turns out we did not do this already. I just dreamed that we had that conversation that morning as I was waking up and confused it with reality. I didn't even know until 5 minutes before she showed up that she was even coming over.

I have too many stories of things like this with her, probably because we spent all our time together when we were younger and it did something to our brains. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation.

I get deja vu a lot on stuff that isn't about her too. My family think I'm psychic and they just accept me having a bad feeling or a random thought as truth. Usually it's just common sense but okay.

I had a professor who I really liked for a fall class, so I took another class with her that spring, and that was one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. Said professor was friendly, understanding, and flexible. My only problem with her was that her test questions were kind of ambiguous, like B and C were equally right and I basically had to guess which one she wanted. Otherwise, she was pretty awesome.

That summer, she was arrested over emails between her and some guy, where they were apparently conspiring to find kids to sexually abuse. ._.

My friends and I tried that stuff as a board thing from The Craft when we were teens and it started to work. We got my friend I think about six inches off the floor before we all flipped out and dropped her. We were all too freaked out to ever try again.

I often think back and try and remember if I missed an obvious rational explanation. Hell maybe we all just had strong fingers lol.
