Tbh I don't really get why furry porn is still considered somehow deviant weird when A/B/O mpreg knotting underage non-con incest stuff with otherwise normal humans is widely accepted in fandom. Isn't it weirder if humans have knots and not werewolves or something?

Not a furry, not into A/B/O or the other stuff either, just confused at the standards.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a rational standard, it's a response to the fact that furries were so fucking incredibly annoying in the old days of the Internet that everyone still hates them 15 years later

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They still are tbh and I like the concept.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

Lots of people in fandom weren't here 15 years ago though. I still find the double standard really odd, especially from fans in fandoms full of A/B/O knotting mpreg stuff.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think a/b/o, knotting, and m-preg stuff is weirder than furries, sorry. Weird kinky role-plays and scenarios involving people is still wanking off to humans. Wanking off to animals is just a completely different ballgame.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they're weirder, but they're either equally whatever, or equally weird to me. On the same level.

I completely agree. I feel like a lot of people believe a/b/o is a lot more furry-esque than it actually is most of the time. Like, before I knew anything about a/b/o you could've told me it was based on some alien sci-fi story, or sheer fan imagination and that explanation would've seemed as legit as any. Heat sex is a common enough kink that I don't even think of it as being inherently animalistic at this point (i.e. it's just a hot kink; I don't give a fuck whether it's alien biology, animal biology, a feature of soulmatedness, a chronic illness, whatever). And I only know about knots because of a/b/o. And again, I really don't care where the idea comes from, and I don't think most fans of a/b/o do either? It's not hot because "dog dick," it's hot because of what it does/how it feels/etc.

At the end of the day, a/b/o is absolutely kinky and weird, but the main ingredient is humans having sex. The fact that it was loosely inspired by dog biology is incidental.

Me neither.

Yeah, I don’t either.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

I'm gonna have to go ahead and draw a line between "furry", which is anthropomorphic non-human animals, and humans doing weird stuff.

It's not really about how weird or supernatural the sex itself is, it's about jacking off to animals instead of humans - and in the case of furries, cartoonish upright animals with a distinctly uncanny Disney-esque art style. Honestly, I wouldn't even call your typical werewolf fare "furry" because it's not that godawful art style.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So would you be okay with furries if the art style was realistic?

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Realistic, as in getting off at two actual animals fucking?

I mean, that's objectively still pretty weird.

I guess I just don't see the big difference whether your character has a dog nose and dog ears and a dog dick... or is a human with a dog dick that goes into heat like a dog. Both of them are already not exactly human to me.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what I have to disagree with you about, though.

A catgirl is not "furry". Neither is an angel. If the bulk of the specimen in question is human, then the unnatural bits are really just accessories and the characters are absolutely human. There's a huge difference between a character with a dog face and body, standing upright or not, and a human man whose dick does weird shit. I have to inherently disagree that a/b/o is in any way a similar vein of kink to furries.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-16 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and my secret is that I don't get why that is.

To me, a catgirl that goes nyaa and acts like a cat and rubs up against things and is mentally way more cat than human is way less "human" than idk, a Tauren from World of Warcraft or something.

DA

Duh, it's the face. You know, the cornerstone of human interactions?

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Then I guess my secret would be that I find the cornerstone of human interactions to be mind and personality? lol

Honestly though, some catgirl type characters regardless of 80% human body is closer to bestiality than human on human. How human-like their body is isn't the only factor at play here.

I don't have but also don't judge that kink either, for the record.

a catgirl that goes nyaa and acts like a cat and rubs up against things and is mentally way more cat than human

This fits somewhere on the spectrum, and is a conversation of its own, but that's really not what most a/b/o is like, at all. You know that, right?

The majority of a/b/o, the characters think and behave almost entirely human, except when they're in heat. And even in heat, they remain human-looking, they talk, they move like humans, they kiss, they engage in anilingus and fingering, often they worry about getting proper consent, sometimes they worry about pregnancy, and sometimes they use contraception. All human things.

The animal basis for a/b/o is almost entirely incidental. If people liked a/b/o because they were into doggie porn, it would be about a hundred times...doggier.

I talked about catgirls because AIRT talked about catgirls.

Like to be fair, you could say this about most furry porn too:

The majority of furry porn, the characters think and behave almost entirely human, except they look like werewolves for example. They talk like humans, they move like humans, they kiss, they engage in anilingus and fingering, often they worry about getting proper consent, sometimes they worry about pregnancy, and sometimes they use contraception. All human things.

I guess to me the defining factor of whether a character is "human enough" is their inner workings and human personality, and most furry characters in my experience parse as "human enough" regardless of their exterior. An alien could be "human enough" too. So can a robot brain in a jar. And A/B/O. To me, all these things parse the same way, as "human enough to count as basically human for the purposes of shipping, without being actually human."

Most furry media falls into the categories of "humanoid with fur" (Treasure Planet) or "animals who act pretty much like humans" (Bugs Bunny). So yeah, there are a good number of catgirls running around.

I think most people consider all these things deviant.

Still. Man, I’m so not looking forward to seeing people argue about the ethics of furry shipping when Netflix drops the furry anime Beastars in October. Fandom sucks so much sometimes.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-17 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Beastars wank is gonna suck so bad because some people are gonna take the herbivore/carnivore thing to be a race or gender allegory. Haru alone will create pages of discourse.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2019-04-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I never thought about the allegory angle.

Agreed on Haru. I’m so not looking forward to the shipping wank in general. If fandom decides that carnivore/herbivore ships are problematic and abusive that’s going to suck so much (I don’t think I have any ships that don’t fall in this category).
