I think they mean podcasters who don't discuss individual episodes in the context of what happens later on, assuming people are watching along as they watch a series for the first time.

Dahl's been dead for, what, thirty years now? And you don't think Rowling could have considered for herself what messages her writing was sending?

It touched my mind but not my heart.

This! So much! Nothing about Cedric points to the fact that he would make such an awful, horrible decision. This isn't he was humiliated and dropped out of school. This is I was humiliated and became a murderer! He's one of my favorite characters and I hate what Cursed Child did to him.

Absolutely!

True, but that's like one out of how many?

Nah, don't think so. Not if she were a man who behaved exactly the same way. IMO, a male JKR would get even more criticism, especially re: her support of Johnny Depp.

I only liked individual superheroes so I never cared about where they belonged and never got the hype for Marvel versus DC rivalry.

Both companies regularly fuck over my faves anyway, no loyalty from me :(

DA

This exactly. Civil War soundly ruined Steve and all the characters who sided with him for me. Super-powered individuals are always dangerous, but those who decide that laws don't apply to them and they can go and do whatever they want, no matter the damage and death toll, how dare anyone or the international community try to tell them differently, and insist they are being good and righteous and morally superior that way, are not even vigilantes anymore. They are sprouting the same rhetoric as despots and terrorists.

I just don't get the logic at all. If anyone with a high-stakes job screws up at their job, there is an investigation (if there isn't, we call that a cover-up). Most applicable here imo is a comparison to soldiers and cops. We all want an investigation is a cop bungles an operation and kills someone. If that cop goes somewhere, not on the job, with no legal basis for their actions, involves themselves in a situation they know nothing about and have no reason to be in, and kills someone, then we expect there to be an investigation and a charge for manslaughter or murder. Whether or not there were valid reasons and extenuating circumstances should be decided by a court of law, not by the person who did the killing. Rules are good. Regulations are good. Accountability is good. They build the framework that keeps megalomaniacs with superiority complexes from killing everybody.

Look, post-Civil War I entertained fantasies of the world in the MCU coming together in the face of this obvious threat. I knew they wouldn't happen because America-centrism and ~heroes~, but I wanted to see Europe close ranks with Africa (pissed at the same people bc of Lagos) and Asia (China would jump at the chance, and there are enough forces in the Middle East who chafe at Americans invading countries and killing people in the name of democracy) and hit the US with embargoes, restrictions, and close down all their military bases on foreign ground.

da but now I'm wondering if it's the canon I'm thinking of because it had a marriage in the most recent installment. Although if it is that canon, maybe we've just been hanging out in different spaces because I've always seen way more support for the slash pairing than the het one?

Er... Rowling's a person with free will, not a sponge who must helplessly soak up whatever puddle of tropes she's tossed in. If she absorbed some rather toxic messages while she was trying to borrow Dahl's whimsy and other tasty tidbits of British kidlit, that's on her. She's an adult - an adult who is writing well after Dahl's career and life ended and who's still not making great decisions. Let me ask you... has she apologized for being unduly influenced by those awful tropes?

Han’s not my favorite Star Wars character by a long shot, but part of me thinks Kylo fans must have really fucked up family dynamics—and my parents and their parents and their relationships with me and each other was ott nuts. If Han had been abusive rather than an absentee parent I could maybe see Kylo’s killing him as justified or at least understandable, but his fans sympathizing with him and saying his emotional turmoil excused his killing Han creeped me the hell out.

I think TLJ really fucked up the “Snoke mind control” thing; even one flashback of toddler Ben with Snoke whispering in his head would’ve made him seem less irredeemable.

Wow, cannot agree with you there.

Aliens is my favorite movie. The Terminator was maybe made better because of Terminator 2. Both Grease 2 and Jaws 3-D are such wonderfully terrible movies. Though Star Wars: A New Hope is complete unto itself, I think it is richer for The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. And it doesn't just go for movies over 25 years old, I liked Happy Death Day, but I think Happy Death Day 2U (Feb 2019) was maybe better.

I do think there are way too many out there, but some are quite good (and some are awful, but so much fun to watch).

On a side note, I'm really put off by all these actors giving us gentle reminders that villains are villains.

DO you really think that the example presented in the secret is really off putting...? Really? Someone is asking why there's no Ben Skywalker (that name a hell of stretch in itself) in the promo pic meant to show the characters who come together to fight against thsi very character? What kind of promo materials does this person expect? What version of teh movies has been playing in their head?

I just wish fandom (as a whole) was better at loving their favourites without needing to undermine other characters...? Or at least better at liking characters and noticing theat they have some flaws (or made some mistakes)?

(look at me, so many years in fandom and I'm still wishing for it to be less over the top in its likes and dislikes. LOL, me, I guess? ;) )

I hate how blowjobs in fic automatically mean deep throating. I get that it's ~super sexy~ but I wish sometimes the character would just suck the the tip and work the rest with his/her hand. Especially if it's a huge cock (as it always is.)

Dittoooooooooo I love the genius man. I want to lick his pretty brain.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Civil War forever ruined for me Sam Wilson and Steve "Captain only of America." I don't understand why there weren't real repercussions for what they did. Bucky was most probably still mentally compromised, although him hurling a civilian off a motorcycle and into traffic to save his own skin really tarnished my view of him as well. And T'Challa out on a revenge spree? It's not the heat of the moment anymore if you have time to book a flight.

Civil War was the last MCU movie I watched.
