[06] They changed her name to that for Kingdom Hearts, if I remember correctly.

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
6. I believe "Aeris" was a mistranslation or something and her name was actually supposed to be Aeirth... but it makes no difference to me. lol Call her what you will, the Katakana is the same.

[identity profile] roaring.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
3. Togainu! I play a couple Togainu characters in my game. :3 I agree, I find obscure more interesting.

6. In Kingdom Hearts they translated her name as Aerith. I think some people use Aeris and Aerith to differentiate between the two versions of her.

[identity profile] boooon.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
1. Hello :O *waves*

6. I think 'Aeris' was a mistranslation, but I used to prefer it as well. I don't really care now anyway XD

8. I see at least two games in there I've played. Threads of Fate for the goofy win~! ♥

[identity profile] savant.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
6 » That's what her name is in the original Japanese game. It was changed to better suit American audiences when it came over here (which makes no sense in the first place), as is the case for a lot of game characters.

8 » The PS1 RPGs are the greatest games ever made. ♥ Nothing out today can compare with some of that stuff.

1. Most people don't focus on the point of my secret, but rant about stupid elements of it. And I just feel like screaming, 'Hey dumbass, was that the point of the secret? NO! NEXT!'

4. I'm sure a lot of people.

5. Haha, filler makes me laugh. At least some filler does have an okay storyline, but it usually ends up becoming mind-numbing as it continues. Yes Bleach I am looking at you.

6. Aerith is the Japanese spelling of it, but it did't become popularized until Kingdom Hearts and suddenly everyone was using it. She has and always will be Aeris to me. Aerith sounds stupid and seems trendy more than anything. It's like using Zeng instead of Tseng or better yet I saw some dumbass using Shion which is a fan-sub mistake.

7. I can sympathize. While I've never played the game, Castlevania: HoD had such a horrid soundtrack -- which is shocking considering the other games -- that when I play it on am emulator I turn down the music volumne and play MP3s instead.

10 - OH GOD, YES. I wish I'd never agreed to let people use OCs in my game.

...and I so wish I could make this comment with my LJ but its just so not worth the fallout of my players seeing it. They've almost (barring ONE character) all Mary-Sue'd and make me want to almost decree OCs banned altogether. That one player is my saving grace for the OCs in my game. Its a fandom RP. Fandom characters, PLEASE!

6. This has been explained several times, but here it is again, in OVERLY DETAILED FORMAT. :x

The original Japanese katakana for her name was エアリス, or "earisu." The INTENDED romanization of this name was "Aerith," since the name itself is derived from the word "Earth." HOWEVER, it was mistakenly changed to "Aeris" because... well, just because. Mistakes are like that.

The mistake was corrected in Kingdom Hearts, as was mentioned, and brought up online, etc. The proper name of "Aerith" is also included in the credits Advent Children, and while some people tend to disregard that movie along with the rest of the new Compilation additions, the fact remains that her intended name was Aerith all along, not Aeris, so please refrain from calling it BS or I will continue to ramble on and on and on again about stuff no one care about. :D Wow that sentence was retarded.

... And more mistakes like this occurred with Sierra/Shera and Bahamut Sin/Shin/Tremor. BUT I DIGRESS.

SU!

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
.. *in the credits OF Advent Children. Mwejhadlfksjf grammar.

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
You forgot EARI. XD

[identity profile] song-of-truth.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
....Bahamut Tremor? *snicker* I must've missed that one, oh my.

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
It was SUPPOSED TO BE "Bahamut Tremor." The Bahamut in Advent Children, I mean. But, you see, since it was called "Bahamut Shin," they changed it to "Bahamut Sin."

... Yes. I'm not a nerd, I swear.

[identity profile] song-of-truth.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
3. Ivan! Anyway, I completely agree. There's so many more opportunities for creativity with characters who haven't been overused or personality-raped time and time again...

6. I don't care much either way, since they're both official and all. Actually, I can't keep it straight in my own head and switch between the two pronunciations constantly, even within the same conversation.

8. While I don't recognize those characters specifically, I totally empathize with you. All of my favorite games are for the PS1, too, and my friends are all too busy keeping up to date with the newest releases...

[identity profile] shahrizai.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
8. <3 <3 <3 Grandia!

[identity profile] song-of-truth.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think they need better names, regardless.

And being a nerd is PERFECTLY okay.

[identity profile] lostremnant.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
6. I tend to use Aerith since I read a long time ago that Aeris was a mistranslation. I have one of the original English versions of FF7 and it is said that that version has tons of mistranslations in it. And frankly I prefer the name Aerith because Aeris just sounds harsh to me.

But both names are used in fandom and if someone else wants to use Aeris, fine. It's no big deal to me. However I DO have to admit that I twitch when I see Tseng's name written as anything other than Tseng so I guess it's just whose ox is being gored. :D

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
They're apparently named after fighter planes or something or other. I DON'T KNOW. This is why I need to learn Japanese-- not to be useful in society, but just so that I can figure out this kind of crap. Ahahahahaha.

Right-o. XD
hughes: (cid fucking highwind;)

THX TO BE CLEARING THAT UP, LINA. <3

Yeah, I was gonna say... wtf, it's not BS, nor is it trendy. (It also isn't a differential thing between KH and FFVII, either.) It was a mistranslation in the original game, and although I'm cool with people calling her either one, it's pretty dumb to say that the intended spelling of it is annoying. D: Do your homework before making complaints against people who are actually using a more accurate version of the name, plz. (I'm not even a big Aerith fan at all, but yeah, Lina's right-on with the background.)

On an added note, a similar mistranslation happened with Shera; her name was mistranslated as "Shera" when her actual name was supposed to be "Sierra," which is where the weird confusion over the name of Cid's new airship in AC comes from. I personally prefer to call her Shera, but Sierra is also fine by me. ::Shrug.:: Not a big fan of the Cid/Shera pairing, anyway. XD ...At least, I THINK that was a mistranslation. XD; I might be getting it wrong.

[identity profile] kurachu.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
SU SU SU! :D

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
STOP.

HAMMER TIME.

[identity profile] volley.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
7. B-but I love the music! Morroc theme... Stuck in my head now.
... Although after some time, it does start to grate on one's nerves a bit. So I often mute RO and play my own music instead. :D;

8. Thousand Arms! *_* Grandia! Valkyrie Profile! Threads of Fate! Legend of Legaia! The only one I haven't played is the last one...
YES. AGREED.

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
UR WELCOME. ♥

And yeah, you're right about the Shera/Sierra thing. It's because... AGAIN, the katakana: シェラ = Shera, シエラ = Shiera. Or, since that wasn't clear, "she-ra" and "shi-e-ra." The smaller "e" indicates.. some... thing. I'm not an expert on Japanese, so I don't know exactly how to explain it, but suffice it to say that since they only have a "shi" sound instead of a "si" (pronounced like "see") sound, things get confusing.

... AND YES. I WILL SHUT UP NOW, REALLY.

[identity profile] byewonderland.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
THREADS OF FATE! And I think I recall playing Legend of Legaia. My sister both both games years back and we'd take turns playing them. =D
