Yup. If you want to name your kids for a character, at least make it a name that is fairly normal. You want something to give a weird name to, get a pet. Kids just look for reasons to tease other kids, and you are an asshole and bad parent if you put your own amusement above your kid's well-being.

I'm sure they know the majority of their viewers are male, just like the majority of viewers of fashion YouTubers are female... but they also know it's not 100%

Usually they address their audience in the same way they'd talk to a sports team. Awwright boys, let's do this! Look at that, boys! We did it, boys! It's "the boys" in the metaphorical locker room form, because they also know a large part of their audience is 20/30+ year old men. Every time they do it I imagine the female viewers listening and cringe a little

Equivalent would be like starting off a thread here addressing everyone going "hey girls, how was your day?"... you know it's mostly women but it's not everyone, so it comes off awkward and assumptive

That's why if you want to give your kid a fandom-like name, put it as the middle name. Then they can use it if they want to or ignore it if they hate it.

I'm totally with you.

This is why I like watching Christopher Odd. It's either "ladies and gentlemen" or "welcome back everybody!"

He's this sweet, polite Canadian guy that's gained a pretty big following among people I know IRL, mostly because his gameplay is fun, he doesn't go in with guns a-blazing, and his language is PG at best. He kind of assumes he's "family channel" in that I think he assumes most of the people who watch him are either on the younger side or are older people who don't want to deal with edgelords.

When I first started playing, my brother and all his friends recommended him.

Generally, people seem to use it to refer to somebody who attempts to use their identity as a gay man to police the correct way to write and/or ship m/m relationships

Khaleesi and Daenerys are dumb names for real life kids. Name them Dany, it's cute and sounds good.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-27 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of an actual gay man doing this so I guess the cishet girl thing makes sense, lol.

I have seen actual gay men complain about inaccuracy but that's not like, policing fandom.

ia I don't feel any sympathy for them.

idr Dany torturing anyone to death in the first season (though I may just be misremembering), but she certainly spent the better part of the first 6 seasons Mad Queening her way across Slaver's Bay and beyond. I'm sure the big "reveal" needed better writing and more build-up (I haven't seen season 8 yet) but the constant foreshadowing for her eventual snap is about as subtle as a tornado siren.

Same. If I am playing a character, I feel compelled to play a good character, or as good as I am able to given the choices available.

Like Dishonored. I make some pretty evil choices but that's because I want to be playing a version of Corvo who is trying to limit the needless death.

It was sunny for most of the day. So, went on a walk and mowed the lawn.

It doesn't help that in Mass Effect, the Renegade options are just completely racist in the second and third games.

Pretty good. I'm off work today and my husband made bbq (chicken, sausage, corn on the cob). I did my nails and watched the Star Wars marathon on TNT. Slept in late too. And I'm off work again tomorrow!

Yeah. Especially when the evil route doesn't even have a payoff except for a trophy. And I like collecting trophies, but if the only way to get it is to slog my way through unpleasantness, more annoying game mechanics and an unsatisfying bad ending, I'd rather not get the trophy.

And I always roll my eyes at developers who make "Oh and you have totally free choice if you go the good or the evil route" a selling point of their games only to unsubtly shove it in your face that no, actually, the evil route is BAD and you should feel bad about even thinking about doing it.

Complain is a big world really :) never saw full-blown complain, people tend to more like, chuckle at inaccuracies. Same as het fans sometimes do at preteen view of sex scenes - also, not always entirely on the point due to lack of personal experience.

For me, what really matters is if the story is good.

The funny thing about Dishonored was that in some missions, killing the target would have been kinder. Like, it's the GOOD choice to go handing the unconscious lady whose only mistake it was to date the wrong politician over to her insane obsessive stalker to presumably be kept as a sex slave for the rest of her life? Seriously?

They probably didn't anticipate it... but they really should have.

I mean, sure the WAY it went down, the suddenness of the shift, sure, that's just bad writing.

But the "She turned evil and killed everyone and needed to be put down" twist was not, at any point, hidden or subtle.

Maybe you were rooting for her because you thought this was gonna turn into evil vs evil, but it was never going to happen that she would be the sweet innocent flower wearing ruler.

Her's was always going to be a bloody messy rule, and was never going to last.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-27 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, I meant complain in the same way as you, like how het fans complain about fanfic in which penises hit ovaries, lol. Not complaining about the authors.

My aunt and uncle have a cat named Khaleesi. They didn't name her, but they say it fits her. It's a really cute name for a cat!

Secrets you're too lazy to make

I just had an epic adventure in my house, competing with our two cats to see who could catch the mouse first. I won!

Bioware seems to have a big problem balancing the bland and booring with cartoonish puppy-kicking.

Often paired with a very generous serving of accusing them evil fujoshis of fetishising and objectifying poor gay men.

"Well, as a gay man I find this ship to be problematic, which makes you and anyone who ships it a homophobe, and if you have a problem with it, then that makes you a straight cis woman arguing about the gay male identity with an actual gay male, so I think it's clear that now the fandom has a responsibility to bully you as close to suicide as possible!"

You know the type, I'm sure.

It's not limited to the gay identity or any fandom. It's "Fandom clout achieved through identity, and wielded against people who don't like me" But a good number of slach writers who pull this shit have been outed as het cis women.

Same here. I'm currently doing my first Pacifist run on Undertale and even the thought of a Genocide run in the future makes me want to cry, because I'm way too soft. Getting the worst ending in Haunting Ground/Demento requires you to beat up your dog companion until he's terrified of and/or attacking you, and when the time came to try for 100% completion I passed the controller to my brother because nope, never, not doing that.
