118. Well, you'd first have to become a celebrity, then lose your career. :P

129. At least three or four of those guys would not hit, push, OR tie you up. (Unless that's some alternate-verse Spike that I don't know about.)

162. That was a really boring secret.

#148: AGREED. That he's hot is the main reason fandom is all over him. He is attractive but I do not get the appeal of the storyline. "Cheesy" is the perfect word.

LINK ME TO THE TENDERSHIPPING PICTURE, PLOX. PLOX PLOX /PLOX/. ...Because I ship Ryou on top, and Bakura as the bitch. Unless he tops Mariku. Because Mariku bottoms under anyone. EEurrrh. Yeah. I want that picture.

...lol maybe I should just make a damn fandom for it?

[identity profile] ivymutant.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
138. This show is very overrated. Sure it's not a bad show, and it's actually reasonably good and enjoyable, but it's not the be all and end all of the genre. Anybody can be a SciFi fan without having seen a certain show, or read a certain book. STOP BEING SO GENRE ELITIST. A GENRE IS MORE THAN A SPECIFIC SHOW!
Yes this is a big thing for me.

138 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-09-28 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's a big thing for me too. I've been in media SF fandom for a while, and not watching B5 is nothing compared to not having read Clarke (getting into literary SF fandom is one of the most humbling things) but one can only do so much.

However, I am making the effort and I'm owning up to the fact that I do not have the same background in literary SF that most of the fandom has. Now, if people would only admit that B5 is too long for them, or too metaphorical, or not pretty enough or whatever, or they are planning to watch it in the future, that's fine. But acknowledge that B5 is a milestone.

Yes, a genre is more than a specific show, or a specific writer, but playing down their influence is just as bad if not worse than the elitism you accuse me of.

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
111. This is ridiculously off topic, but...I'm surprised to see Hal Om Mig on a FMA secret. I thought that song was only associated with the Princess Tutu fandom.

118. Or you could learn how to dance and try out for So You Think You Can Dance?

130. Superchic[k], a Christian pop-rock band that focuses on empowering lyrics for girls, makes you think of Draco/Harry? Ubuh?! Relient K makes me go "whatever you like" but...Superchic[k]??

159. Frankly, a single represents an artist. If she didn't want people to judge her by I Kissed A Girl, she shouldn't have used it as a single.

Quite frankly, I see no reason to give a chance to an artist whose debut is an annoying, generic pop song that is only popular because it uses sexuality to cause a splash. There's THOUSANDS of artists out there. I don't have the time to listen to all of them. Why listen to one that's given me such a bad impression?

Maybe I'll listen to one of her other songs if they come up on my Pandora station, but otherwise I could care less.

Also, I don't think being "gorgeous" makes someone a good pop star. I'd rather listen to someone that's ugly, but has a better single than a vapid pop song.

171. I've...honestly never looked into the fandom much, because I don't want my childhood memories screwed with. XD; I know that's a little weird and hypocritical, but I don't WANT to read shipping fics for those books, or whatever, even when I know as a kid I did ship certain characters.

Honestly, you're probably the only person who likes him.

133

(Anonymous) 2008-09-28 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not just that the story was utter dogshite, but that he is too bloody pretty for Holmes. And the total lack of chemistry between him and Ian Hart - Watson's supposed to hero worship the man like crazy, not act permanently pissy at him!

Mind you, I think Brett was a bit pretty for Holmes. And too short. And fat.

127: I always found him to be bland and boring. I wanted to like him, but really he didn't get much for interesting storylines. I was hoping that the whole 'My name isn't Michael Vaughn' thing was going to lead to something with him being a bad guy or something, but it never happened, and I was left quite disappointed.

165: My God, YES. I could not stand her. Same with Sally Sparrow. Sally Sparrow wasn't a real Mary-Sue or anything, but I couldn't stand her or all the fans saying, 'OMG SALLY SPARROW FOR NEXT COMPANION!'

Also, you should totally check out the old series. You don't have to be old and/or British to watch them. I'm not even 20 and Canadian and I've seen them all and love them.

Re: #127, #165

[identity profile] christ-chexx-4u.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
see, sally i LOVED. i think part of it was that she didnt really have any interaction with the doctor - she was allowed to be awesome all on her own. and yet it made a great who episode because her one small experience with the doctor ended up changing the course of her life completely. however i DON'T want to ever see her as a companion, because it shatters that perfect "moment in time" (lol pardon the expression) aspect of her story.

I've only seen snipets of Teen Titans when it was on, and i know little of the comic you've got their, but Slade? One of the creepiest thinker villains I've seen.

Also, was he not voiced by Ron Perlman? That earns like, 500+ cool points right there.

Re: 158

Definitely watch the animated series. It's extremely well-written and performed, very funny and poignant, and Slade is absolutely terrifying.

132. I've only seen her in Cable and Deadpool, so all I have to contribute is that Domino is hot.
133. Which movie? (And yeah, the upcoming Holmes movies kinda scare me (but I'll see them anyway).)
135. WISHBONE! <3 Wishbone is fucking awesome.
136. Awww. Go on and friend people! I barely post myself, but I'm sure the awesome writers and ficcers and meta...ers in the fandom would welcome more people on their flist. (And play the games--they're worth it! PS2s are cheap and have an amazing library, and the first three games are available for only $30.)
142. F!S is a perfect complement to dinner. Except now I'm hungry, you bastard.

I do know that B5 has some problems, but dammit, it's still better than 90% of media SF that came after and I miss it like burning. People, especially the recently converted media SF fans, or the die hard Trekkers who don't watch anything else (yes, those exist, I've met two of them) just don't appreciate how much B5 did for them.

Why can't we just bring back the Master?
