(Anonymous) 2019-08-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)Especially in TV! TV is a serial medium! By its very nature, one of the distinguishing characteristics of TV is that the people making it can respond to their audience as they're in the process of making it. I don't think that's a bad thing, or a failure to respect the auteuristic vision of the creators.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-03 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)You can have a casual conversation about ships and canon with a creator, which I agree is fine, but people tend to get really creepy about it, like how the Voltron fandom acted, which isn't.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)In that case I do agree. Kinda like how a beta, or comments on a fic shouldn't interfere with the decisions an author makes creatively. Just so long as nobody expects the author to change everything to suit their tastes, it sucks when some people don't know or care what or where the line is, and that sometimes authors feels compelled to shift things because of that. Giving suggestion, and assuring someone that if they decide to go a certain way they would be supported by their viewers, is a good thing absolutely.
I do tend to cringe a little bit when people get really 'fandomy' out of a fandom setting, but I'll admit it's mostly because of those Voltron type fans. I forget sometimes it can be done tactfully. Unfortunately I think it's rare that it is done respectfully.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-03 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)If the secret is just supposed to say 'Voltron fandom is bad', I'm sorry I misread it.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-03 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)if you want proof that the ability for fans to share ideas with creators is a bad idea, look at Game of Thrones and Once Upon A Time. Shows made to take fan desires into consideration, or in spite of them, turn out awful.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-04 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)The nice thing about one of the male leads on Voltron was that he was shown to kiss nobody for several seasons and only at the end did we learn he was gay. It's not the best rep, I would have preferred it was open from the beginning, but at least it's canon now for a kid's show. Representation has to start somewhere and then improve.
