Learning to crochet! Does baking count as a craft?

I'd say if they sell stuff for it at JoAnns or Michaels, it counts. (So yes.)

I love crochet.

cosplayer, so...sew, paint, bead, sculpt, mold plastic, woodworking, a little knitting, plush/dollwork, quilting, general crafts. basically if I need it for a costume I figure out which of my skills would work best to make it.

I'm a "little of everything" type of crafter, too.

...with all the accompanying storage issues.

I’m a cosplayer, too, but unfortunately my skillset is a lot smaller than yours and I’m not amazing at the stuff I know how to do, which is mediocre sewing, okay dyeing, and basic beading.

I’m decent at recycling thrift store stuff into costumes, though; I have a really complicated dress where 90% of the base fabric was thrift store finds, some of which I stripped and re-dyed or hand-painted, and half the trim was thrifted or bought on clearance or from the dollar store.

lmao de-anoning because...eh. hi! don't worry, I've been at this 20 years so it takes time to cultivate Too Many Skills and also Not Enough Room as per above anon.

but don't sell yourself short! thrifting and then modifying is a skill and it sounds like you've totally made it something far more than most people who can't even be arsed to replace a button. I have learned over time that I suck at design and original ideas, so I always bow to those who can bring their own ideas to life, and even more to people who can visually deconstruct something they've found cheap and rebuild it into what they want it to be. I've been scratch-building so long that my modding muscles are weak and atrophied.

I don't do any craft seriously, but I like to screw around with all the crafts and frequently spend a weekend doing something like making candles only to then not make candles for another six months?

My most consistent 'craft' I guess would be those knotted friendship bracelets? I find them relaxing to do while I'm watching TV.

Crafting + TV is my drug of choice.

I cross stitch and bake.

What's your favorite thing to cross stitch?

Oh, just decorative stuff, really. Subversive stitch is fun, and DMC has a bunch of free patterns on their website... there are free patterns all over the internet, really. It's not for any particular purpose, I just find it really relaxing.

I do embroidery when the mood strikes me. I have a sampler that I’ve been working an and off for about a year and an idea for one that I’ll sketch out tomorrow.

I've recently started making cat toys out of boxes, toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls, and I'm learning how to make junk journals out of little cereal boxes. I've got most (if not all) of the supplies I need for the first batch, and I've cut the boxes into the proper shapes, so now I need to look up some more tutorials on where to go from there. I'm also thinking of taking sewing and embroidering lessons again. My grandmother was a phenomenal seamstress (not the Discworld kind) who taught me a little bit when she was alive, and when she couldn't do it anymore her neighbor volunteered to teach me, but she was super unreliable and insisted on starting me on a super-complicated pattern that was way too advanced for my skill level and it kind of killed my interest for a long time.

Anyway, I'm hoping that picking up some crafty-type hobbies will help refuel my creative juices and help with my writing.
