What is everyone doing this weekend?

I am watching my nephew right now. Tomorrow, I will be working more on the zebra I am crocheting. Got to figure out better color changes.

This weekend we're celebrating my nephew's birthday. I have very mixed feelings about this boy. On the one hand, he's a shit-gibbon who I suspect has dabbled into white supremacy because of some of his opinions, but on the other he's really improved from when he was a drug dealer and I'm kinda proud of him?? So... well, he hasn't beat up any old men in a year, so he's getting a decent birthday present. My bar is low, but he cleared it.

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair done in the morning. Other than that, no big plans. Maybe watch some Doctor Who. My sister and brother-in-law are here until tomorrow evening, but honestly I don't really feel like good company. I really feel like being alone.

I gotta go out to get a new winter-coat tomorrow because the zipper on my old one finally packed it in and literally ripped right off the fabric. I wear things to death and this one finally succumbed.

But it's not so bad, called my mum last week so we're gonna make a day of it, chat and bond and all that jazz. Just hoping I won't be too tired because I've been having terrible sleep the past few nights.

I shall wish to see this crocheted zebra when you are done, because any kind of stitch-work is amazing to me because I can't even manage to knit a scarf.

FWIW

I change colors by pulling the new yarn through the last 2 loops of the stitch I'm working on (no slip knot). Then I make a temporary "shoe tie" bow on the WS to keep everything taut until I weave in ends.

health question for older women

If there are any older women here.

When did you start perimenopause? I'm nearing my mid-40s, and my menstrual cycles are getting shorter and shorter and lighter and lighter. I thought this didn't happen until late 40s or 50s?

TBH I'm pretty surprised and having a hard time with it. I never had or wanted kids and still don't, but I never realized how fertility is so central to my concept of my personal femininity. And it's obvious people have really stopped seeing me as a fertile/feminine being. The invisibility stage has well and truly begun.

recently asked my doc because I was noticing hot flashes at 43, and the explanation I got was that...there is literally no way to know until your periods have stopped for 6mo. There are no tests, no obvious symptoms, no guarantee, because no one has really bothered to study it aside from alleviating the most aggravating symptoms (severe hot flashes, pain, discomfort, etc). Once you have not had a cycle for 6mo, you are officially considered done, over the hill, fully paused of the meno. Anything besides that is just speculation.

I think I have an irrational fear of being massivley hated online. I find myself occasionally checking to make sure I'm not mentioned on places like kiwifarms and I have literal nightmares about my friends online telling me I'm dead to them. I know this probably sounds full of myself to think I'm important enough to be known and I feel bad about that too.

I am so mad at myself that this is a thing I get stomach hurting anxiety over.
