Rogue One is fucking awesome.

100% Best Star War.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-31 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, just add Empire Strikes Back and strike most of the love for the Sequel Trilogy :)

I also loved Rogue One, and though I've only seen it once (when it came out) I still care far more about the characters than almost anyone from the new trilogy.

Same. I think part of it for me was the "everyday" heroics. These people weren't Jedi or senators, no prophecies or magic powers--half of them weren't even particularly GOOD people. But they did what was right anyway, against impossible odds, and kept going and kept going until the job was done. To me, that exemplified hope and the fight against the tyranny of the Empire more than anything Luke did. Rogue One showed the PEOPLE of the universe, and how even small actions can turn the tides and save the day.

ngl I judge people's Star Wars taste based on their opinion of Rogue One.

Which way do you judge?

I love Rogue One too. Excellent taste, nonny.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I really thumbed my nose at Rogue One when it came out, but it was on TV one weekend while I was cleaning the house and wanted background noise, and I could not. stop. watching it. It was super engrossing, and I ended up enjoying maybe equal to the original trilogy.

Hard agree, OP. Second only to Star Wars itself.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Same! I think because despite being a prequel that is directly tied into another movie it isn't entwined with any of the others. No ones character changes in another movie or two, it isn't leading the audience down a blind path to a disappointing reveal, it just IS and it's perfect <3

I'm not sure whether or not it's my favorite Star Wars movie, but I definitely agree it's the strongest movie of the whole franchise (thus far) just from a movie standpoint. If that makes sense. Like...it was just a good movie, period.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
This movie was so fucking dark. Not in tone, (although it was weirdly bleak for a silly kids film) but dark as in I couldn't see what the fuck was happening most of the time. Also if this is actually your fav movie of all time and not just of Star Wars, I have to assume you've only ever seen like 6 movies in your life.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I get annoyed by literally dark shows and movies (Hannibal was best watched on a monitor with the brightness turned up) but I thought Rogue One was very clear most of the time. Maybe you saw a badly adjusted version (if the cinema sometimes shows 3D, the 2D showings are often too dark unless they adjust setting, which they often don't.)

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
The only scenes that were too dark were the rainy night time ones. But I saw it in theater, don’t know about your screen.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
It is a really good film. While I don't like how the protagonist was written in what you don't know who she is and what ideals does she have, the movie itself is a brilliant elaboration on the Star Wars universe. Not so much to tear apart but to rebuild and reinforce everything that makes the Rebellion Era idealistic and hopeful.

It IS a dark time. The Empire has purged the Jedi, the galaxy has all but lost hope, and the only people willing to rebel are morally dubious. The AT-ATs and AT-STs are all terrifying to look at from underneath, knowing they are the boot of the empire stomping on the weak.

But just as well, it makes the heroes there flawed and human, making their heroism shine all the brighter since they all want to restore the ideals of liberty and democracy over a tyrannical Empire. After the sacrifices, horrors, and suffering all of these flawed heroes went through, they throw a light into the future, allowing Luke and company to destroy the Death Star, giving the torch to them to carry on the fight.

I especially love the scene of the discussion of the heads of the rebellion for both the flaws of a republic being explored, and for showing how deeply diverse the Rebellion is and the reason it still is a Republic, for all its flaws.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
But it isn't really a good film, per se? It's weirdly choppy in places, the pacing is off, it really shows that they've redone it a couple of times, and it's mostly saved by its excellent ending...? I mean, I agree with you on teh content, but it's not terribly good filmmaking, and that's why I don't really like rewatching it. I get bored.

I really recommend the tie-in books to Rogue One, especially Catalyst and Rebel Rising.

Same.

Honestly, the sight of Cassian and Jyn - two people who barely know each other - holding each and fighting back tears as death approaches is more powerful than anything in any of the sequel films.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
As a person who’s pretty meh on SW overall, I think I liked watching Rogue One the most out of the new movies. Might be because it’s a somewhat self-contained story with a dark ending. That’s my jam.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
This secret is very pretty.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-03 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I will agree that it was a good movie, but by the end of it, the whole thing seemed kind of pointless.
