Condiments/Sauces You Could Drink?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-22 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
What are some condiments/sauces you like so much you would eat/drink them on their own?

The really thin sweet chilli dipping sauce at the thai restaurant.

Hmm, sweet thai chili is delicious. You'd definitely catch me drinking that.

For me it's mustard, hot sauce, soy sauce, and horseradish. Alternatively I would absolutely wear toasted sesame oil as a perfume.

I love maraschino cherries and will eat a jar of them and then drink the liquid. I do the same with bread and butter pickles and their brine. And I could put Thai sweet chili sauce on pretty much anything, too.

Absolutely! While it's not quite drinking it straight, I'll always save the cherry syrup to put in my drinks. Pickle juice is absolutely the best though, I prefer dill, but I could drink all the liquid in a pickle jar before I even finish eating the pickles.

Maple syrup. And also honey.

Both are delicious! Side note: drizzling honey over soft serve ice cream is amazing!

I could drink caramel as well. I have a sweet tooth.

Yes to all three of those! I never can resist pouring some in my mouth whenever I put them in my coffee/ice cream.

A lot of oil and vinegar/vinaigrette dressings I've had over the years would probably be tasty to drink. But I love the taste of vinegar. Balsamic is too strong to straight-up drink, but there are others that would be delicious as a drink.

I will admit that there have been times I've drank straight vinegar. It's hilarious since I used to do surveys for fun and one of the intro questions (generally questions that are meant to a straight /No!/ answer) was 'have you ever consumed a cup of pure vinegar'... Let's just say I didn't feel the need to finish that survey.

PICKLED GINGER.

Oh~ I haven't heard of this one. Is it the juice you drink, or is the ginger made into a sort of paste/spread?

No it's thinly sliced. Often served with sashimi and sushi (along with wasabi paste). I have been known to buy a jar of it and just eat it on it's own.

Okay, now that sounds more familiar! Honestly, I don't think I've ever tried it. I've only recently started putting a dab of wasabi on my salmon/tuna sushi, but I was never quite sure how to pair the ginger with what I normally order. I'll definitely have to try it next time I order in!

You eat it between sushi to cleanse your palette. Unless you're eating sushi with me, in which case I'll steal all the ginger and you'll get none :)

Ah, that makes a lot more sense than putting it on top of the sushi then! I'll be sure to order extra so we can both have out fill!

Depending on the source, it's usually a very pale pink-ish orange color. The slices are very thin, almost translucent. It adds a slightly sweet and gingery element that I find balances the sharpness of the wasabi very enjoyably.

That does sound delicious, I'm disappointed I haven't tried them yet!

Butterscotch sauce and good quality chocolate sauce, if I wasn't on a diet.

I have a hard time resisting those myself. I love the thicker chocolate sauce that comes in a jar, something about the consistency makes it near irresistible! Butterscotch is just as good, I've always wanted to try my hand at making it from scratch, but I always end making caramel instead;;
