101 - *hugs you forever*

130 - YES. THANK YOU. SERIOUSLY I hate these people.

136 - I did both.

138 - Fandom wank. Anytime ANYTHING happens on this show half the fandom threatens to walk. It's ridiculous.

I totally agree with you! But... Are you secretly David Tennant?

I just recently rewatched the second season of GA. Then I felt like a horrible person because my favorite episode of all time, is when he dies. Though I must say - I think the best way for them to have finished with Denny is have had him get better, and leave the hospital. THEN Izzie and Denny go out on a date and find out they HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON and do not know each other at all. They realize they are not for each other. THE END OF DENNY.

I loath this plot, and if they bring him back I WILL stop watching.

And if it makes you feel better, if you go to the writers blog, every person who has commented hates the Denny/Izzie plotline too. I know i do.

108. I miss hand-drawn 2D animation. So much. ;_;

123. Yeesh, harsh.

148. I'd definitely watch this if it were real. xD

[identity profile] bioniccheese.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
123. Okay, now that I've seen your explanation, I understand. You just kind of worded it weird, so people think that you think that pretending to be someone else for fun is childish.

145: Doesn't it depend on how much of the character the voice is for you? When the voice is changed, so is the character. I can't comment on the quality (I'm not American, so I don't watch the U.S. dubs), but it makes the character different.

154: I think we all have styles that we cannot stand. For me, it's certain shoujo styles (Arina Tanemura's for example), and the really grotesque ones, like GTO or Fist of the North Star (though I have read a bit of them anyway).

N!S1 Are there any photos where he doesn't look like a pedophile or just plain bored?

[identity profile] gomimushi.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
123. Okay first of all, I do call troll again. On the other hand, I can honestly see where you're coming from due to reading your comments.

Bonus? I sort of agree. I have never understood why RPers took everything so seriously, and I think almost all the drama that occurs is ridiculous, but ragging on about maturity doesn't really seem to follow and just reflects badly on you. Who are you to question the hobbies of others? It's fun, I've tried it once or twice, and if done with people and close friends who don't find it particularly serious either, it's a good way to pass the time.

If you'd said something a little less provocative, it might have been less trollish, and you could have argued a point that I would have agreed with. As it is, uh, no. You can't. So go back to your little troll-hole and hide it out. Not all RPers are petty and stupid (though there are a great many that are), and those who aren't probably don't appreciate being called immature. Your secret is readily misunderstood and probably geared that way. A lot of people would understand your point otherwise, i think.

also honestly? I find some really good RPers (whether serious or not) to be quite intimidating in an intellectual sense; way above the mental age bracket of 8. They know their characters inside and out, and they're just very well-read in their series or canon. This is especially the case in fandoms that require outside knowledge, or current events. I've recently taken a dip into the Hetalia fandom for kicks and that is some crazy shit.

123 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-11-19 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, if I had wanted to troll, I would have done a lot better than a relatively lame secret about RPers. I could get a lot more mileage out of a secret about rape or feminism or Prop 8 or something. Or I could combine all three! And then stick it on a picture of those guys from Supernatural.

123.

This secret makes me a little sad, because most of the RPers I know are the most mature people I've met.

I think RPers get their (okay, our) bad rap because because the bad stuff is what gets the most attention/gets blown out of proportion (also because pretty much all anyone likes to hear about RP, who doesn't RP, is wank. At least that's what I've seen. People like to laugh at the silly pretenders, and I don't blame them, but the side effects are unfortunate).

It's rather like news. You hear a lot of awful news on the radio, but that doesn't mean that the world is in a perpetual state of suck. "Wildfire in California" is news. "Another Day During Which There Is No Wildfire In California" isn't. Same principle with RP wank.

I do agree with you about people who take things way too damn seriously. I'll admit that I get like that about characterization, but, dudes, it's a game.

103: Agreed. I like her version so much more than the ZOMG LOLI versions.

111: Um, it kinda... was. But if it made her feel better, then it wasn't so bad.

123: ... What?

127: Usagi always annoyed the shit out of me. I always liked Mamoru much better.

142: I don't know which song that is, but anything that inspires people to fight against injustice is good.

145: I don't get the whole "ALL DUBS ARE BAD!" Thing. I watch the english versions of DBZ, Gundam Wing, Revolutionary Girl Utena and Yu Yu Hakusho. I also watch Naruto (the non-sucky first part), Magic Knight Rayearth and play Odin Sphere with the Japanese audio. Both kinds have the potential of good and bad voicing. /tl;dr

147. YEAH the underboob thing in her costume always kind of bugged me. Not only that, but wouldn't her breasts be differently shaped if that bikini was placed tight enough like that? o_o either that or it's loose.

126. OMFG. I loooove Hello Dolly. It was my first show in high school, and my friends and I will still randomly sing lyrics at each other. It's SUCH A FUN SHOW and I think a more modern version would probably be rad.

130. THIS.

126 OP

It was my last show in high school, and I got to be Dolly. I have so much love for that musical. SO MUCH.

108. I don't think they're inherently bad, but yeah, I'm also prejudiced against the current style that started with Toy Story. I can hardly ever motivate myself to watch one of them because I feel so cheated by it (never even seen Finding Nemo). I wouldn't mind it if they gave us a 'traditional' Disney film every once in a while, but sure enough, it's always the 3-D look. As I understand it the traditional look would be almost entirely achieved by computers now, too, but still they devote themselves entirely to the computerized look that looks computerized. The more illustrated style just had so much more beauty and warmth. That's my childhood. Now it's all about the effects, and even stories seem to have suffered. (Sure, Brother Bear was 'traditional,' but the writing was horrible I thought.) They must think people want more Pixar, but they have a large audience that doesn't. Think of all these kids being raised on Pixar instead of traditional Disney... I mean, could be worse, but it's just kinda sad. The Lion King was the pinnacle of Disney if you ask me.

[identity profile] dishfacecracker.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
111) Well, I think if it helped your friend, then its not that pathetic. :)

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
108. I don't necessarily agree with that logic... but I am sad to see that there are no animated Disney movies anymore... :(
122. lmao I agree, unfortunately. So hard.
145. I hate sub snobs. Most of them don't even try to like the dubs. There are a lot of good dubs out there that get no credit. :(
155. lol I like more masculine physiques too. ♥

[identity profile] thelastredbull.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
114. I couldn't tell what that was at first. I love that movie so much!

[identity profile] easilyentranced.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
127. Awwww! Me too! Who the hell says that he doesn’t deserve Usagi?! Usagi is probably one of the worst characters on the show, lol. I mean, I love her, but come on.

145. I never understood that. I mean, yeah, you can prefer one over the other, but to say one totally sucks balls when it really doesn’t is just retarded.

See, I usually see RPing as a Fun Hobby. It can also be a great way to do something fun and creative with friends!

Nobody is "pretending to be" an anime character on the internet as in... thinking they are them. Or if they are, the RP community in general feels pretty weird about that, actually -- there's a huge emphasis in every online games to remember the difference between IC and OOC.

Instead, it's a melding of traditional OC-based RP (which is basically group improv with pre-defined rules to keep any one improv'd character from ruling the game) with fanfiction elements. So the "pretending to be an anime character online" is ... really just an interactive fandom hobby.

Yeah, there are people who take it too seriously, and yeah, there are people who really believe it. But although they might be loud? They're seriously not the core of the RP hobby, and I think a lot of people would be surprised that people would think they are.

Re: 123

(Anonymous) 2008-11-19 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I... am really not sure what to say to this, because "all RPers are otakukin" was not my point at all, and although I've realized by now that my secret was poorly-worded (and I may not have done the best job of explaining myself in comments) it didn't begin to occur to me that anyone would take it that way.

Read between the lines? There is one line. Ten Inch Hero was like a Lifetime movie plus ten times more sap than necessary. And Jensen's char was still all Polo-fied by the end of the movie because he felt like he had to change to get the girl. What a great message that is.
