I don't think the Dukat/Trump comparisons are funny. Dukat was a tragic villain who wanted to help his people and was driven mad by the death of his daughter, Trump is just a bully who only cares about his own ego. Just because there are some superficial similarities doesn't mean Dukat deserves to be compared to him like that.

There's a fan animator on YouTube who did some awful things.
The secret?
I saved some of their videos to my computer to watch them without giving them views, and I know there's people who would hate me for that.

That's an...interesting take on Dukat. He's not Trump that's true. He has nuance, true. But he's not just tragic and not just "driven insane by the death of his daughter." He was always a megalomaniac xenophobe with delusions of grandeur. They gave him more nuance with Ziyal and with his rejection of the Cardassian peace with the Klingons. But those other characteristics were always there from the beginning too.

Let's not forget that he oversaw the occupation of Bajor. Even if we knew nothing else evil about him, he wouldn't just be a tragic villain because he has that in his past.

But I also think making comparisons between fictional characters and real world politicians endangering real people and getting real people killed is not funny.

Are any jokes about real world politicians funny and acceptable, or just blanket no?

I'm pretty sure that's the reaction we were supposed to have to Anakin, that it didn't matter as much as it would have if it had been say, "younglings," but I had the opposite reaction because Sand People are just as sapient and what he did was just as much murdering kids.

As for Dany, look, she was my favorite character. I hate what they did to her character. I think it was badly written, and it personally ruined the show for me (that and other things in season 8 and some in 7 too). But if we take it as shown on screen, what she did was not okay. She murdered innocent children. She murdered civilians, poor people who had no say in anything and therefore no responsibility. What she did was evil.

It made no sense for her as a character in my opinion and it certainly wasn't developed. We go from no murdering the oppressed to suddenly murdering them is okay with no real reason given for the switch in her personality. So if you want to pretend it didn't happen, cool. That's what I'd do if it hadn't retroactively ruined even the earlier stuff for me. But there is no way to justify it as written. There is no way to justify murdering innocent kids. None.

I'd say it would depend on the politician. Personally not a fan, but I think tamer versions with milder politicians would be okay even if I'd avoid. But Trump has gotten people killed. Many people. Trump is played off as a joke a little too much when the things he says and does have real world consequences. I know people who are dead now because of him and his people. He's not a joke.

The way the term was described to me way back when I first got into fandom applied to a specific type of character regardless of whether it was an original work or fanfic, and it was associated with bad writing more than anything else. Maybe it would make sense to have different terms, one for when this type of character/writing occurred in original work and another when it occurred in fanfic, but honestly, I don't really see the point, and I really don't know why some people are so adamant that it HAS to only be applied to fanfic.

Nah, the fact that Anakin killed "not just the men, but the women and the children" wasn't meant to be forgiven. It was definitely one of many big steps into Sithdom for him.

He's not a joke but there are a huge number of impossibly absurd things about and around him, and I think laughing at those things is a reasonable response and a way of coping. I don't think any joke made about him should downplay the seriousness of who he is and what he's done, but I reject in the strongest possible terms that it's unacceptable to make a joke connected to him at all.

Yes, it was a step. But it wasn't meant to be seen as a full-on dark side step. We were still supposed to see him as completely heroic. It was supposed to be him dipping his toe in the water. Whereas, to me murdering that many people is pretty damn dark and a very big step at least.
