I've seen kids playing with actual Chucky dolls.

HONESTLY!

I already have an issue with deciding that a character being skinny/more emotional makes them The Bottom. I've had to disengage with the fandom for one of my favorite things ever just because of people who are AGGRESSIVE about how the skinnier half of the main ship MUST be a bottom, could NEVER top, and is just a NERVOUS UWU BABY-- never mind that he's actually normally very confident and self-assured and take-charge, because he's skinny he's a bottom and because he's a bottom he's weepy and emotional at all times, and to suggest otherwise can get you dogpiled.

I agree. What's wrong with having a shorter character top? I've read some amazingly fics where that happens. Specifically some super hot Kylux fics with Hux dominating and topping a much taller than him Kylo (although Hux bottoming while domming is also hot).

So far, Dark. I'm losing interest in Babylon Berlin. Hoping The Rain is better.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, this pisses me off so much.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yEAH! I don't need a full physical description at a character's introduction, just their most striking feature or features, depending on who's eyes we're seeing through. BUT, if it's a scene between two characters who have known each other and are in love/falling in love, then even if there's nothing NEW about the color of a character's eyes, it feels appropriate to bring it up.

But, to address the secret itself, man yeah. It drove me crazy recently in a fic where a character's eyes were CONSISTENLY described as icy blue-- like, it came up way too often-- and the actor's eyes are a very gold-leaning hazel. I'd have accepted amber, even brown just because the lighting on the show tends to be so dark, but they're kind of the opposite of blue?? It was so weird to me that the writer just decided to change that-- I guess for the contrast?

You were a kid, OP. Things are scarier when you're a kid. My nephew used to be so scared of the Cybermen when he was little, but now that he's a teenager, he laughs at them.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man I LOVE Dark. It's sooo good. Every time another piece of media has a time travel twist, my sister and I will turn to each other and say "WO ist Mikkel??"

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I vaguely remember the drama surrounding this book. I meant to read it and just never got around to it. Wasn't there some other similar drama floating around that actually made the author (a different one) withdraw their book so they could fix the problematic bits?

I don't watch the office but I do like how she's dressed in the pic you used so... good taste, OP!

This annoys me too, but eye color description annoy me in general. I've just read too many fics where writers go on and on about a character's color-changing amethyst orbs.

AYRT - Oh man, yeah, agreed. I actually tried to read a fic just last night that was a HORRIBLE offender for this. Peter Parker was described as having blond hair, blue eyes, tan skin, and full lips.

HE HAS NONE OF THOSE THINGS. I was just like, o_O

(And his hair was described as curly, plus he was kind of bright and peppy, so he was definitely meant to be the current MCU spider-man.)

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeesh, it definitely goes both ways* and is annoying regardless.

* As do my OTPs in my fics because I hate strict top/bottom dynamics anyway. But I do love subverting the fandom "consensus", sometimes simply out of spite.

If foreign movies were the same shit quality that Netflix pushes out then I wouldn't want to watch them either

Her style is way too preppy and feminine for my taste, but she always looked put together, and her style generally suited her frame, so I guess I agree.

Does it count if they have English as an audio option? 'Cause I watch a lot of anime and most of them are available in English, but I really enjoy the Japanese versions and, if available, the Latin American dubs.

kingdom and dark absolutely.

crash landing on you, rookie historian: goo hae rynung, and live up to your name i found delightful as romantic-dramas.

SA- oh sure, it works much better with established relationships vs. first meetings, but even then I'd prefer to have authors be a little more creative and focus on more character-driven details or personality traits or something.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-20 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)

its anything you want :)

AYRT - I'm a visual person, so I like a mix of both, myself. As long as the descriptions aren't flowery. "His keen, dark eyes" - yes. "His sumptuous mahogany orbs" - no thank you.
