101. Laurie is just a touch too old. If he was younger he'd be just right.

105. You have a crush... on the Major. That's just unfathomable to me. Normally I can understanding liking the bad guy, but this is just... Snidely Whiplash would have been a better, more tasteful choice.

On the bright side, Major is basically Hirano's avatar, so there is the next step down.

114. You know I have to recommend Hellsing now, just to be obstinate? I hate vampires. Loooove hellsing, though.

120. What do you mean, pit two grieving parties against eachother? Also lol at "daring" to vote...

127. ... I really want to play this game after seeinig that. What a cute outfit.

135. I really want to get into Prince of Persia, but I want to start with Sands of Time and I have no idea where I can get it. Has anybody ever read the comics? I spent three minutes with one in the bookstore the other day and fell in love with the art, so I'm curious as to whether or not they're actually any good.

147. But you do have to admit that he has a cute outfit.

148. Predictably, I agree.

162. Probably not. That was such a horribly depressing movie. Bible stories make awful movies.

163. I know what you mean. I don't know, I feel like people - especially people who have accomplished great things in their life - should be respected enough to be elevated above your base desire for an orgasm.

Well, I'm just saying I told her that if she "dared" to support Proposition 8 I wouldn't respect her anymore and I that would stop calling her mom because there is no reason for her to be so closed minded as to fight against people that only want to live happily under the same sky as her.

And about the "grieving parties"... I was just quoting Nia there. All I wanted to say is that there is no reason for people to fight and that religious people need to understand that faith is no a competition about rightenousness. Faith is supposed to be self-rewarding, not a condemn of other lifestyles.

Re: 120

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but the religious aren't really fighting over their faith, they're fighting because they want to maintain control and continue keeping hegemonic masculinity at the centre of the church and the centre of the world...

There's a good article on it, if you're interested, that explains why gay marriage and organized religion are at odds despite the text of religion being inclusive.

Re: 120

(Anonymous) 2008-12-10 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't disagree with you.... but what does Proposition 8 has to do with "keeping hegemonic masculinity" at the centre of the church? I mean, whatever happens in the government has nothing to do with "the church". This about equality in front of the law, not about religion.

Re: 120

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/11/25/proposition_8_religion/

This article explains it pretty well.

Re: 120

(Anonymous) 2008-12-11 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
'cuz homophobia isn't bad enough on it's own, and it couldn't possibly be that people actually want their convictions backed up the state-- no! it must be a plot to by the patriarchy! having to do with masculinity! and therefore it must about ME and MY OPPRESSION! oh boy i can't want to post this on the echo-chamber lj comm feminist! *salivates*

as a lesbian, i'd like to say pls gtfo and take your ridiculous, issue co-opting, tinhat conspiracy theories with you.

tia :)

"--despite the text of religion being inclusive."

lmao

I have no idea why you are so offended :/ As a pansexual woman, and a strong atheist, I thought that this article made a lot of sense. Though it can't be the only reason, I think it may be an additional reason why the Abrahamic religions are trying so hard to fight gay marriage.

Re: 120

(Anonymous) 2008-12-13 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
i wouldn't say i'm offended, i actually laughed at the article.

see, many "internet feminists" (like pcc)-- not all, but many-- adhere to a belief system in which the patriarchy is an illuminati-like conspiracy & the more of a victim you are, the more feminist you are. this means that whenever they can, they take a very oppressed group, like gay people, and link their oppression to a greater struggle against "the man", fundamentalist religion, etc. and who's on the other side? women like them, of course! gay people are conveniently swept aside so (mostly) white, straight (or internet!bisexual) women can wallow in yet more victimhood.

"see, it's not really about homophobia-- it's a about oppressive masculinity! i feel your pain, moon sister!"

puleeeeeaase.

Just walk into a GameStop and ask for it; it came out a while ago, so they probably have a ton of 'em. It's 9.99 used and is available for both Xbox and PS2.

Re: 135

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh holy shit, it's for PS2? I thought it was Xbox only! Am I thinking of a different game?

Oh well. Sweet.

Re: 135

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2008-12-11 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
I only have a PS2, and that's what I've played it on, so yeah.

And while I'm not much of a gamer at all, I quite liked it. *shrugs* A coworker lent it to me in exchange for DDR; he wanted to do an exchange to borrow my game, but I had no idea what to ask for, so he just lent me that one at random.

And I thought it was fairly interesting (and not too terribly difficult) because, well, I finished it. The only other game I've EVER maintained an interest in long enough to finish was Guitar Hero II. So.

re: 163

(Anonymous) 2008-12-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, because that's what all slashing is. Everyone only writes slash fanfiction or whatever because they want to get other people off. I'm not even into that, but I feel like that's a really stupid statement to make.

Re: 163

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sorry. I completely forgot that people ship Rahm/Obama because they want to explore the intricate dynamics of their relationship and examine the political landscape of America through the lens of a loving but unlikely gay relationship at Washington's centre.

Give me a break. People ship it because it's hot or because it's funny.

Re: 163

[identity profile] two-if-by-sea.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, not to get in an argument with you, but I disagree that everyone ships because they think pairings are hot or funny? True, I like some ships just because I find the people hot together, but there are ships that I like because I do want to explore the intricate dynamics of a particular relationship. I won't say that's necessarily true for everyone (in that ship or in general in any other fandom) but whose to say that people don't like pairings because they find the dynamic interesting, or because they think it is a good way to look at the realities of the environment around them?

Re: 163

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about Rahmbama, not shipping in general.

Re: 163

[identity profile] everysecondtues.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Rahmdom is of course excluded from the rules of the rest of fandom?

In that case, I still think the argument applies, maybe to a little lesser amount because of the inherent nature of the pairing. We'll never know unless we interview everyone who ship it and gauge whether or not they're being truthful about their reasons. But I guess we'll just have to disagree. :)

Because politicians NEVER HAVE ORGASMS. Trufax.

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"base desire for orgasms"-? I mean, really. I understand you're talking about 'our' orgasms, and not theirs', but for godsake, our politicians are some of the dirtiest fuckers in existence. An RPS comm about them is hardly tainting them in any way by comparison.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
... Uh.

... I didn't say anything was being tainted. I said that I think people deserve enough respect to not be reduced to sex objects and porn fodder. Yes, politicians included.

[identity profile] kita0610.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about you, but I respect the people I have sex with. And the people I fantasize about. One thing has nothing to do with the other.
