What is not worth the time and effort?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2020-07-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
My sister and I made homemade fried chicken sandwiches. It is 100% not worth the effort. Next time I am craving one, I will just go to Popeye's.

What are your things that are just not worth the effort?

I can sew and in theory I would like clothes that fit better than standard sizing and have more pockets and no annoying tags, but the quality of the fabric in my local store is so poor I doubt they'd last more than a couple of washes. I think they just buy all the rejected fabric at a low price and sell it for a profit.

Oh dear! It stinks that their fabric is so awful.

I make all my own clothes (except jeans, you legit cannot make jeans for less than you can buy them and also it sucks to make them) so I can attest that depending on the store, and the type of fabric, it's actually pretty good quality. Most cottons you can't go wrong with.

I tried to make stuffed peppers once and that was really not worth it. I'm usually a good cook but I'm never trying to make stuffed peppers again.

I was looking at recipes for those today and was like, "It would be so much easier just cook this regularly with chopped peppers."

I'm not a good cook but it's pretty easy to make. Rice, meat and peppers, easy.

Even if everything goes right, stuffed peppers are still a lot of effort for something that is never quite what you want it to be and is awkward to eat besides.

I tried to make my own ice cream with my mom's ice cream maker and honestly, I should have just bought tubes of better tasting ice cream.

Yeah, my sister has an ice cream maker and she has only used it like 3 times in two years.

Any recipe with a lot of prep involved that can't be frozen and reheated.

I expect to be fed for a month if it takes more than an hour.

I feel the same way, honestly. Like, we made homemade patty melts once and they just took so long.

Completely agreed.

I don't mind recipes with a lot of prep if they can be done in a day with stuff I can get during my usual grocery run. There are things I want to try making just to cross off my cooking bucket list, but even if I'm successful I probably won't make most of that stuff again.

Macarons. I’d rather buy them than make them.

All the way. They taste good but they're way too much effort for what they are.

I spent literally six hours cleaning my bedroom windows, window frame, and blinds this week. I now have the satisfaction of knowing it's 20x cleaner than it was before, but it's still kind of gross, and I can hardly see the frame past the blinds anyway.

Making dulce de leche. No disrespect to Latin Americans; it is delicious. But damn that shit takes forever to make.

Renting a carpet cleaner and deep-cleaning the carpet when it's so old and covered in deep stains that it still looks nasty when you're done.

Arguing with Trump people. They spout a bunch of lies and conspiracy theories and even when you show them proof that what they're saying is bullshit, they refuse to believe it. I'm still tempted every now and then, but it's just not worth it.
