101, 145 - Even though I have no idea who you people are, I adore you both anyway and want to hug you because your secrets are made of awesome and cute. ;)

As the admin of several Pern RP sites I have to agree what most everyone has said on this topic. Wanting to play your brainchild is perfectly valid, but you have to understand that just waltzing into a site as a new member and expecting to automatically be allowed to play gold-ranked isn't possible on most sites. With the higher ranks come actual site responsibilities like modship or co-adminship - usually, not always. Admins want to choose responsible people for those positions and responsibility is shown through sticking around for a while. Granted, you can always find a site that is just starting up and snag a goldrider position that way. The fandom has been slowly dying, so it might be a bit tough to find sites.

Someone mentioned that the traditional sites are the elitist and it's true. Members of non-canon sites tend to be a lot friendlier and open to things. I play on both kinds of sites and I used to hate the 'rainbows' and whatever else, but frankly, I just prefer the people on non-canon. And also yes, people who jump onto sites and say they want to play gold are usually looked down upon very quickly. It's frustrating when everyone and their mother join sites and beg to play gold and then leave when they can't. It's difficult to keep the ranks of the lower colors up, so everyone with a ranker is required to play them. At least on my sites they are.

But if you'd like, OP, I could point you to some sites or RP with you myself. Feel free to message me - I always love seeing well thought-out characters. (I see a lot of crappy ones, believe me.)

Yeah, I worded this secret in a really bad way.

It's the attitude I've gotten through these weyrs that make me not even want to bother with some of the other characters I've thought up. Not wanting to hand out golds like candy makes sense. Vilifying a person because they want to play a gold is just not necessary.

I'd love if you could post some links to places... I've never RPed before (largely because of this issue, which I've let leak over into my feelings about RP in general). Even the non-canon ones, if the people are better.

I really do want to try this character out. Maybe I'll find a place eventually.

Oh my god, I genuinely think his was the most tragic arc in the entire series. :( AND GRIMMER IS UP THERE IN MY TOP FIVE OR SO FAVORITE CHARACTERS but his death just felt unnecessary to me, and very bittersweet, Richard's arc on the other hand was like ldksjkf DESIGNED TO HURT I SWEAR TO GOD. 138. Man, I remember trying to get into a Pern RP when I was 13. Had no idea what I was doing and eventually made another character just so Kale could have a friend (and I was always surprised I got away with the name C'mon). I reallu wanted it to be special, but I was always so scared of not doing things right, and never really found a nich in the wall that was fandom to fit into.
I will say this--while my experience says yeah, they're elitist, I also think it makes sense to have someone build up to having a gold. A queenrider is a lot of responsibility, and its supposed to be a rarity, so it makes sense both that the mods want to know they're not giving it to someone who's going to flake, and that people who'd made connections in the weyr would be favoured for something special over a raw newcomer.

I know what you mean. But my old Mary Sue character was a girl on a bronze, so when I could only get a green, I was still plenty satisfied.

Dangit, now I kind of want to get back into that.

167) Am I like the only person who likes the FMA anime more than the manga, maybe because I saw the anime first but I actually liked the story more, the characters more (minus the twist about the real word).

That song needs to die a thousand fiery deaths. If it just existed in the Eartha Kitt and 80's Cyndi Lauper versions I'd be okay with it representing times we all wish could be completely bygone, but I think it's horrible that today's young pop stars are recording versions, possibly thinking it's cute. "Cute" is not the 4-letter word I'd use to describe it, thanks.

I voted for McCain, and when Obama won, the thing I was most upset about was that he won because his campaign took advantage of young people who didn't know what they wanted to vote for/were voting for. It's sad, and though it irritates me that you voted for something you didn't understand, at least you recognize it. I hope everyone else eventually does the same.

What? This is utter bullshit.

What about the old people who were uninformed and didn't know what they were voting for? I hate the idea that young people were just like, "ooh, sparkly Obama!!!" and went from there, or that young people somehow vote for shallower reasons than the old. Seriously, most people vote for shallow reasons and are politically uninformed, whether they're young, old, or in-between.

Obama "took advantage" of me, simply because I'm young? Yeah, right.
