OMG. Voting ballots are secret for a reason. To prevent people from being pressured (by peers or otherwise) from voting a certain way, because in the booth you can do whatever you truly believe is right and no one will ever know if you don't tell them. If you're that much of a coward, you can even lie all you like.

It's not like info about Obama's positions on the issues wasn't EVERYWHERE for two frakkin' years. The man's written two books, readily available at every bookstore and library in the country. Countless magazine articles, newspaper articles, books, web sites, etcetera arguing about his positions and policies everywhere you looked! From all sides - left, right, inbetween, batshit crazy--all perspectives were out there. Much of the same was true of McCain.

If you couldn't be bothered to do your own research and come to your own conclusions before you voted (hint: that's when you're supposed to do it), don't go blaming your friends and family who "pressured" you by, horrors, having the nerve to be enthusiastic about their candidate. They did nothing wrong. (Neither did the McCain supporters who were enthusiastic about THEIR guy, just to be even-handed). That's how democracy works. When democracy fails is when people act like sheep and don't think for themselves.

Oh, indeed! I've always really felt bad for him and his... Craziness. Especially in the early part of the series, oddly enough. Watching those episodes again knowing everything is kind of a punch in the gut. It's sort of hard to watch someone be cheerful when you know they're actually unstable and alone.

But srsly, friend!shipping usually has way more of a basis in canon than enemy!shipping, barring certain fandoms. It's not hard to see "omg they're being cute together!" and interpret it as a potentially romantic relationship.

138: In my own experience, the traditional weyrs are more of "elitist assholes" than the non-traditional ones because they're so tight to the already stated rules — but that's just my own experience, and it's at least three years out of date.

It isn't really fair to want to step in to a game you've never touched and be given a gold, though. First up, that puts you with a lot of responsibility before you've had a chance to prove yourself at anything. Second, why can't the people who have been there for a while have their own shot at the dragon?

It'd probably be a good idea to just try out a green/blue/brown/what-have-you-that-isn't-high-up character prior to expecting to get yourself a gold. Then again, I've never gotten very hung up on what type of dragon my characters wind up with.

(On a slightly related note — where are there DRoP roleplays? Are they all mailing-list-based these days? I used to hang on MSN Groups, but that's getting shut down in Feb, and I haven't been able to locate any lately.)

It's more because every weyr I've been to has been really cruel about me wanting a gold. I've been outright told that just because I want one, I won't ever get one.

I'd have no problem stepping in with some of the other characters I've created through my original character if it weren't for attitudes like that.
