120. I remember that show!

124. D: That sucks.

131. I'd probably lurk like that whenever a secret of mine was posted if I wasn't afraid of getting negative comments. >: *paranoid*

147. Ra-rape spiders?

157. Aw, you should cosplay as her anyway!

166. Same here! I love Corgis, they're so cute.

Fandom term, but, uh, they're spiders that bite you and brain wash you and give you creepy magical powers and augh why do they always draw them so friggen huge?! This isn't even including the friggen giant monster augh nazca demon spider that's going to be, like, the final boss, or the laser-show spider that DESTROYS EVERYTHING and eats souls and ack ack ack

*running to corner now*

104. Is it bad when I saw this picture, I thought he could play Jesus in a future movie although it's an old picture.

110. And the most fucked up one in a good way. I still think PPP killed a part of my innocence when I watched it in my freshman (or was it sophomore?) year in college. Somehow I loved it. Still can't unsee that Poemi and Futaba are a parody of Sakura and Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura. That anime is a must see for all magical girl anime lovers.

114. ...wut?

117. Maybe not most people ship for the pretty? Some do, I doubt it most and there's usually a reason. But I agree that I wish there were more femslash fanfiction and doujinshi in general. Heck, I'm trying to write a K96 fanfic for the Reborn comm but I don't have anything concrete together and it's frustrating. And I don't K96 for a reason. Surprising, I know.

128. OH GOD, WHAT. That is the funniest thing I've seen today.

137. You hate Brannagh that much?

139. No.

146. Wow, I guess giving people a benefit of a doubt is useless these days. Yeah, that comm is "wut?" but everyone doesn't operate in a hivemind, y'know.

147. ... Now I really have to get back into this show.

166. Ein is the very reason I'm thinking of getting a Corgi when I move out. The only other competition, is a Jack Russell Terrier (because of Wishbone). Suddenly, some crazy, friendship fic with Wishbone and Ein pops in someone's head and hopefully they write it.

169. Am I the only one who isn't worried about the incoming newbies? I mean, I've been through the doom and gloom bullshit before, and much more often than not, the fandom pretty much stays the same, just with more icon posts and fanart. Plus, we do have an awesome mod. Just chill man. If you're the type who hates a lot of daily posts from a comm, I suggest stop watching the comm when the time comes. Just keep on trucking. Weird enough, the fandom is already over 3,500 members but such little fanfiction, and the most of it is pretty good and significantly gen.

In during people saying "they're already here" and stuff.

TL;DR: Dude, just chill. Most likely it won't change.

169. I love our magical mod, especially with the Olive Branch project and shizz.

Also, love for your icon. 8D

101) So why is it that your brother has a right to express his opinion and enjoy the shows he likes but you don't? Consider this good practice for life, because people will totally disrespect you and walk all over you if you don't protest it, and that's a guaranteed way to be miserable. Watch the show you like and your bro can go somewhere else if he doesn't want to watch. And if he wants to tell you how stupid your preference is, just tell him to STFU.

111) Um... or more likely she could be desperately (and apparently futilely) telling you to back off. Sometimes it's hard to see when you are getting obnoxious with your shippiness, and even the possibility of it can evoke bad memories in a friend who has just had enough. If she really hates the pairing, you are actively excludingher from the conversation and driving her away every time you bring it up. Try consistently avoiding the topic of Janto when she's around and maybe she'll start to trust that you can talk about Torchwood without disrespecting her feelings.

114) If you're a lesbian, you're a lesbian. I don't know how much flack you'll get from your family/church/etc, but no good comes from lying to yourself about it. Though if your only evidence for being a lesbian is liking girlie-guys, eh, you sound pretty het to me. I like my women to look like women and my men to look like men, and have little attraction to androgynous people, so it's really a taste thing, rather than an orientation thing.

127) Once I heard that Shyamalon was directing, I gave up hope of it being good. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I kinda doubt it. Avatar isn't supposed to be a horror film, but I just can't see Shymalon not putting in some of his trademark (and wholly inappropriate) flourishes.

Nigella: "Jeremy, I think someone is shipping us.
Jeremy: Rather me than that tosser Hammond

Re: 115

[identity profile] nycdeb.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Jeremy," Nigella purred throatily. "I feel sure someone is shipping us."

"Unlikely, Nig. I mean, what with all the shipping of me and May, me and the Hamster - not to mention the tri-shipta of me, May AND the Hamster. Not enough bloody time to ship me with you. Pass the wrench, would you? There's a good girl."

She passed him the pliers by mistake - an act that if it had been James or The Hamster, would have ended in shouting and slammed doors. But this was Nigella and she would wield the pliers in ways James May - not even The Hamster - could imagine. They were - after all - not too unlike tongs and what she could do with tongs would have had even The Stig shouting for joy.

Once he was refocused on the wrench and the task at hand however, she felt a point needed clarification. "Jeremy, shipping needn't be time consuming or difficult. It's like my standby party pav. Easy and with enough practice, something that can be done on auto-pilot."

"Party pav?"

"Pavlova, Jeremy."

"Pavlovo? The Russian bus manufacturers? No auto-pilot in those."

Nigella sighed. Deeply, seductively and with the patience of one who had stirred many many risottos in her day. She'd make a pav tomorrow and they'd share it whilst surfing the online world of fandom shipping. She would SHOW Jeremy how easy her party pav - and shipping - could be. In the meantime, she'd watch him tinker with the stand-mixer. Anything to keep him from getting his hands on her new Alfa.

146. I agree that the air over at [livejournal.com profile] therightfangirl is clouded with hostility. However, in your case, I'd give the person the benefit of the doubt. As far as I know, [livejournal.com profile] therightfangirl is the only community out there for conservative fangirls. So, the user has very few options if they want to discuss with like minded people. While I don't converse with very many conservative fangirls, I'm sure they're not all "raging douchewads".

In fact, I can't imagine how difficult it must be for them if they only place they have to turn to is [livejournal.com profile] therightfangirl, where distress against their status as conservatives in the fan community has, in part, driven them to lash out in hostile posts. Plus, the Republican party has become heavily defined by their social issues in recent years. I'm sure that not all conservative fangirls agree on those issues and may instead lean towards conservative economics or some other ideology.

There are too many grey areas to hold one community membership against someone. Heck, they might even be watching for the lulz. Just because they share a conservative standpoint doesn't mean they agree with the atmosphere at [livejournal.com profile] therightfangirl; it's just their only option. Plus, I truly feel that the only way to have a full impression is to listen to all sides, regardless of how hostile they may be. The best way to defuse hostility is to kill it with polite discussion. Not snark, condescending comments, or anger. Polite, honest, two-way conversations.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-25 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP but I can't talk to people whose political philosophy means that they believe some people are inherently better and deserving of rights than others. I don't want to hear about how it's okay to bomb and torture people or stop others from getting married, etc.

To be honest, I don't care how difficult fandom is for them when outside of fandom, it's people like them who hold power.

OP, I think you're worrying too much. The fans who are interested in the "kawaii desu desu moe yaoi weeaboo" are, well, already here. A couple months back, before we had several posts a day, this issue was wanked and discussed over. Thankfully, this "issue" didn't prevent new fans from joining.

Plus, I think you're giving the current fandom too much credit. We are awesome, but we're not some beacon of awesome. What's to say we don't get an influx of members who post educational material (and we already have many of them right now)?

I'd hate it if the fandom became elitist over a few people who are only interested in the character designs. And, to be honest, I don't see a problem with that group.

Oh god... I found that show this summer on Hulu, and I watched all four seasons within a month and a half. I fucking fell in love with that show. Everything about it is brilliant (except that the second half of season four is kind of batshit, but only in the best way).

If there is a fandom, I must know... But you're not alone in the ReGenesis love!

118. I love that book. I know Moore was inspired by some of the Gnostic literature, though I know the book of Judas has had some translation issues or so I've read... I think in the initial translation, Judas had a similar role as the one in Moore's book, but in a different one, he was Satan or something...

point is: gnosticism is awesome
(man now I want to read some gospels or something D:)

137. what's wrong with kenneth branagh? D: i love that dude

it's way too late to be replying to this, but whatever. FIRST ONE IS STAR TREK OMG.

101- Honestly, I couldn't care less about the crappy effects of the original series. I love the characters way too much to give a damn. Of course, I'm such a sucker for camp. Maybe you could try the books?

This is nothing you should be fighting about with your brother. If he bugs you about it, tell him to suck it. You have a right to enjoy what you want.

119 - I actually saw him in an interview the other day, and asides from the fact that he hasn't got the blue eyes or that pernamently raised eyebrow (♥) he isn't that too far off in terms of looks. He doesn't have so much of a grumpy old air about him, but of course, we've only seen three seconds of him in the trailer.
's sad though, my entire opinion on the movie depends on what they do with him.

132 - I don't understand fandom's distate of epic bffery either, Merlin fandom included. The relationship between two people can be fascinating and deep without buttsex being involved.

162 - I prefer him in his early stuff too. I'm totally going to go off and watch Blackadder now, thanks to this :D

(TBQH, I was the same way. RPF creeped me out until I found that comm… I realized that I didn't have to think of those people in that way and that it wasn't *them* so much as characterizations of them… But that's just me.)

112. Well the are canon…

155. I AGREE.
All due respect, I love Mike, but she and David were perfect together.

137. Oh god. He does? I cant stand Kenneth Branagh. Ever since I had to see him in one too many bad Shakespeare movies in highschool cause my English prof seemed to have a hard on for him or something. And then when he popped up on HP:COS I just wanted to slit my throat. I have an irrational dislike of him. I dont even know what it is exactly. :/ I understand your pain, OP.
